I am in Oak Grove, Alabama and have Nextel and have full service in and out of my house and everywhere down here on the lake. My 07" Chevrolet Tahoe has Onstar which I subscribe to, it's a CDMA/Analog transmitter, out here in Oak Grove there is no CDMA signal at all, just Southern Linc, Nextel, and a bit of Cingular. What am I going to do when Analog is shut off. Loose Onstar?
verizon's map shows oak grove in the extended network, which means alltel or a smaller carrier. somebody has coverage there. you can also activate your onstar device on a verizon plan with free roaming
locust43, Using ZIPcode 35150 for Oak Grove, I found this VZW map showing digital service (around the post office). Must be PCS--see the next paragraph! I looked for your local cellular service providers, and found two GSM carriers, RCC Unicel on A-band and ATT Mobility (was Cingular) on B-band for Alabama RSA-5 (Talladega, Clay, Randolph and Cleburne Counties). You are right to expect the analog service to end, when it is permitted. Which way and how far from downtown Oak Grove to the lake? COtech
There was a post I believe it was in the News section on this, Onstar & GM are going to offer some type of upgrade discounts on this up to certain model year vehicles. Personally I think with your 07 it should be free, since OnStar is the one that was delaying the newer setup on their vehicles, thinking they could get the FCC to hold off on the 2/08 shutdown date as well as all of the alarm companies. I would call Onstar or GM to see if they have an answer already, if not they will send you something in the mail shortly. http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/wireless-news/62878-gm-onstar-have-5-million-lawsut.html http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/wireless-news/62209-onstar-2008-no-analog.html
