Starting November 1st, Verizon Wireless will introduce the new "Nationwide" Calling Plans. I don't think there is a difference with the amount of minutes they give you for the $$$, but Data will change. You will no longer have to pay $5 for Mobile Web, which will use your minutes, but you can either chose the Unlimited VCast package which will give you unlimited airtime for VCast, Mobile Web, etc. or if you chose not to go with this package, you will be pay as you go data, which means you can use Mobile Web whenever you please without using minutes, but it will cost you $1.99 per Mb. This means no more free 1xDUN and other wap loopholes, but it looks like Data roaming will finally become available on feature phones.
It was posted on Howard Forums and I did not want to post it on here until I got it confirmed from a Verizon Wireless source.
If that is true, then people will be happy all over the place! I am still trying to fathom $2/MB!?! That is rather cheap for pay as you go data (~$0.002/kb)... I think that Sprint charges .015/kb and at&t is .01/kb... Nice to know that data roaming will be available for plain phones. Also, will there data fees whenever a person sends/receives a MMS? Also, is this plan change connected with the upcoming PRL update?
The PRL update that will be coming out tomorrow has nothing to do with data roaming. A PRL does not separate voice and data- data roaming is something the network you are roaming on needs to authenticate, it's not up to the PRL to decide. EVDO data roaming is different. MMS messages will continue to be billed according to your Text Plan.
OH OK this is one grip verizon does is use minutes to send MMS damn you verizon this is something I love to use and would send alot more if this were not the case.
I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but I have heard a quiet rumor that maybe MMS will no longer use airtime on the new National Plans, but I would not hold my breath.
unless they bill us kb usage instead, which could get way up there for someone who just has a basic plan w/ txt/pix/flix and no other bells and whitles on their plan and sends/recieves a lot of pix messages.
Will Data Roaming require a new rate plan, or will it now be available on older plans? I use an EnV with VZNavigator, and would like to have access to data when I am roaming on Alltel.
With the new plans, everything data, like mobile web, will be charged by kb, but pics/flix messages will be charged according to the pics/flix/text plan you're on.
That is a good question and I am not completely sure about the answer. The way VZW makes it sound like, Data roaming will be available on the new plans, so you may have to switch to the new plans. Unless you use Mobile Web or DUN, there really will not be any difference in the price plan structure.
Will the data roaming option for regular handsets be restricted to 1xRTT? Not that it really matters to most regular phone users, but I'm just curious. Does an application like VZ Navigator work okay while in 1xRTT mode?
Based on the PRL released just this week there still is no EvDO roaming. You never know, they could release a different PRL for the new plans on 11/1. We'll have to wait and see.
I think if EVDO roaming was going to come out, we would have heard some rumors about it, but I have heard nothing about it. I'm not saying it won't happen; I'm actually hoping it will. It's just a few more days' wait.
i have unlimited mms, but on my q9m and formerly the treo it also used data as well because I use a "business phone" I heard unlimited data is dropping to $34.95
That is interesting. I assume that Verizon is trying to compete with Sprint for data prices, but Sprint still beats the price and convenience, since Verizon still has the 5GB/month data cap.
I hope this comes true... I am on the verge of downgrading my plan and/or cancelling my data on my Q... too bad that there aren't any messaging bundles included with the data plans. To top it all off, I am on a family share plan, making plans harder to find. This is the only reason I miss having a plain phone.
