Was on Lamberts Mill Road sat and with my treo had full bars!!
I am a happy man
I was there on Saturday, still no panels
maybe there are 2 Lamberts Mill RD
only one since I grew up there....never had a problem, but cingular used to cut out right past shackamaxon near the westfield park right before you hit clark
Only one that I know of as well and that's precisely where I have the biggest problem. When traveling on Lamberts Mill towards Clark just past shackamaxon golf course. Maybe it's my A670.
The phones I can try are an LG 6100, 4500, Kyo slider and a treo.
I need some time, but I can let you guys know.
Still nothing as of Saturday 10/29.
was just there again on sunday and no problems.
the new tower still has no panels up on it though.
Anyone have any thoughts on why it's taking so long to bring this tower online?
Maybe the building inspector hasn't gotten to the location to approve the stage that they are at, that is my only guess unless someone started fighting it.
I am not blowing smoke,
but I know the Building Code Official (he lives 4 blocks from where I grew up)
Very intelligent guy. I will be in SP tomorrow- will see what I can find out from my family.
Zamboni77, any word from your family? I passed the tower again on Saturday and still not panels.
sorry family has spent much of past month on LBI trying to rebuild their lost beach. From what they have told me- nothing has been in the papers, and when my mother heads over to woodbrige she hasn't even seen people on the site working.
Do you think westfield could have had a say in preventing it?
give it 6 months as Larry said.
Westfield wouldn't be able to stop or have any say on this tower, even though it's close it's not in there town limit's. Besides I think Westfield is not too against towers, Cingular wanted to put 1 up early this year in Westfield & I believe it passed with no problems. I haven't had a chance to get out that way recently and have to see if there is anyone I can talk to in Scotch Plains to find out what is going on with it (I do know/work with the fire chief in Fanwood, maybe he can find out for me).
If Cingular is able to install new towers in Westfield, I wonder why VZW has had such a problem there. I was in downtown Westfield last weekend and still had virtually no signal almost everywhere I went. I know several people with VZW service who live near Westfield and they mention the same problem.
Well, growing up in Scotch Plains, I know they always competed with Westfield with EVERYTHING, so putting up a tower after westfield got one is funny.
Amazing, everyone I run into that lives in the area has no idea what is going on in SP
Wow, that's odd having little or no signal in Westfield center, I would think every carrier would have good coverage in that area, I have to admit I have full coverage in most area's of Westfield, including full coverage in the new County police and OEM building they opened this spring.
I am sure the closer you get to Garwood, you should have no problems though, especially with the tower on North Ave behind burger king. I am trying to remember where the towers are around the center, but don't remember seeing them I will have to look further next time I am there.
I had a VZW rep check their internal maps over the summer, and if I remember correctly the closest tower to downtown Westfield was somewhere up North Ave and then near Route 22. It's one of the only areas I have found in the country where I can't rely on VZW service. Very odd.
the tower could be the one in watchung about a mile north of 22
I always have full strength in westfield. never had a problem in the past 6 yrs. strange
The 22 one would be the towers behind Mountainside PD & town hall and North Ave would be the 1 in Garwood which is close enough to the Westfield line & only 2 miles tops to Westfield Center I am suprised you don't get a signal, I am sure they are using 850 at both of these locations.
I am surprised as well. I would think the Garwood tower would provide decent signal in town, but so far that hasn't proven to be the case (for me at least). I checked around on some sites like Cellreception.com and deadcellzones.com and found quite a few people complaining about coverage in the same area, so I guess it's not just me. Granted, my VX7000 is not #1 in RF but it's decent and has never been a problem anywhere else.
I would guess the panels are not facing the direction you need, & 2 miles can be a long way off if the panels are directed in another direction.
Try calling & opening a trouble ticket, there is a chance they may be able to re-direct the sector panels, especially if it's an older site, & newer sites that were added later cover some of the area of that sector ....
You really think they would send out a crane and pay out some $$$ to re-direct panels just for one complaint? No way.
They did it for me on a site in Bergen County.
Granted, It was a building roof, not a "tower" , & I did "know someone", & suggested they move the panels, but I was surprised that they did it .....
You never know, they may if they feel it really will improve a needed area without detractig too much from another ...
It could depend on the carrier and area in question but I guarantee you that Sprint would never do such a thing. I know how their RF dept. works and there's no way they would even consider such a thing unless they got 20+ complaints.
From what i heard all these Cell Site Builds are all Outsource.
Private contractors are hired to build them but the carrier still makes the decisions on the specs.
Very true Larry, but the installations need to be chcked and triple-checked . I'm not missing being in the installation business .
It's not likely one complaint could result in major changes, but if sales and RF get flack because of a site not performing, it comes back on site development like and avalanche.
This is true of any carrier.
