You guys keep saying this thing about not solving the problem of "poor Sprint coverage in your home area" but many of us (myself included) have excellent Sprint coverage in our home area so that's not even an issue. So just because it may not work for you doesn't mean it's a poor service. Sprint has many great markets like Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, New York, Dallas, etc. But they can't be perfect in all areas.

I agree it doens't make much sense for most of us existing customers to change to a new F&CA plan. I certainly don't need it.

    AnthroMatt.

I did not realize Verizon's AC plans included AT&T at all. That's the first I've heard about that. I remember reading online a few times that it basically included Sprint (in some areas) and Alltel in addition to Verizon's own coverage.

The info on ATT was given to me by a friend of mine in San Antonio...he told me what a Verizon person told him. I suppose that doesn't make it true! [IMG]

As for the poor sprint coverage, you are right Larry. If Sprint works fine for you wherever you happen to live then by all means go for it. Their regular free and clear plans plus the vision service are a pretty good deal. Not to mention you get cool phones, if you care enough about that kind of thing. I forced my Verizon phone over to Sprint and the service was fine here in Columbus except when I am inside my house or inside the grocery store. Since I plan on making my cell phone my only phone soon (thus needing good service inside), I think I will be sticking with Verizon for now, though I'd love to switch because they made me very angry. With Sprint I got poor reception and good customer service, with Verizon the exact opposite. Is there a happy medium somewhere?? Who knows though, the fact I am using an LG may be half the problem when it comes to my phone picking up a Sprint signal. I think Verizon is PCS up in Milwaukee and I will be there next week, so I can compare the phone's performance on the 1900MHz band there.

Yeah LG phones usually show low Sprint signals. Try a Sanyo and you will likely have at least 2 more bars showing on the indicator.

I also don't think using another carrier's phone to test out Sprint's signal strength is not very accurate. When I switch my Sprint phone over to Verizon analog I usually only get 2-3 bars even while standing right under a Verizon analog tower! I think some phones are formatted to show signal strength properly only on the carrier who it belongs to. I don't know why.

Larry, SPCS is alright here, in fact they have the most towers in my area, however still weak service. Does Sprint have low-a$z power settings on their towers? One Verizon tower covers an area with 3 Sprint towers and Verizon *still* gets stronger signals in 90% of the places. Doesn't seem right. Forcing my phone over to Sprint is fair though. I compared my LG forced on Sprint via *22803 with my dad's Virgin Mobile phone. They both were pulling in a 100 db reading, give or take 2-3 db's. This is right here in town, 1.5 miles north is a Sprint (and also the Verizon tower), and 2 miles south is another SPCS tower. Something is not right considering I get 80db on Verizon! Anyway, these plans are great for businesses and for new customers looking for AC-type coverage in excellant Sprint markets. Like I said, my market is pretty good except at my homes. I still would rather have AC since it is cheaper, and stronger coverage at home.

I wouldn't have it any other way! Just tested walking around inside my house:

    SprintPCS on my LG4400: -103db to -91db
Verizon in the same place -84db to -64.
    My wife's v60i on Verizon gets -91 to -77.

The LG beats Motorola...I am as shocked as you!!

A phone confirms that everything in the PRL is correct when it connects to the system. That means that it will check to make sure that the network it is connecting to is free before displaying free. The PRL only acts as a guide that simplifies the phone's job. It doesn't hold any actual power and there is no reason not to update a PRL since it can never hurt.

I guess Sprint just realized that the cellular band is not the worst thing in the world as they tried to market it. Thumbs up for Sprint! They should drop the PCS from now on! (Sprint Wireless??)

Now, T-Mobile is responding by adding more minutes. I guess everyone will be shooting with their best weapon. Sprint will be attracting people with more coverage, T-Mobile with more minutes. Let's see what Cingular, AT&T and Verizon have to say about this. Frankly, I won't hope much from AT&T since they seem to be the most conservative coveragewise and pricewise.

They kind of dropped the 'PCS' already.

Bad news folks...not all Affiliates of Sprint will be participating in the Free and Clear America Plans.....so these rates may not be available to all customers.

That's not surprising... AT&T affiliates don't offer everything AT&T offers either.

Yes, but when you go with service from an AT&T affiliate you usually know it, because they advertise themselves as an affiliate, however Sprint affiliates do not do this, they market themselves as Sprint, which to the end user can become very confusing when the affiliates do not honor major promotions such as the Free and Clear America plans. If they are going to have different structures they should market themselves in a different manner.

    You are shocked why???

LG is a Korean company based in Korea were CDMA RULES and were there phones MUST kick ___. They are basically CDMA specialists so of course there phones would test better than the made for every system v60i. Now a Moto Startac or p270 from the days when Moto made specialized phones..that would be another story.

OK, well, the LG and the v60i beat my old Motorola Timeport 270c when I tested them. The 270c was a CDMA only model (though the 280 for GSM is close).

I just called Customer Solutions to update the new PRL which is now 10019. and I printed that new plan off a new group about that new plan called: PCS FREE & CLEAR AMERICA, and after the person flaged my account for a new PRL update I asked him about the FREE & CLEAR AMERICA plan he says yes it is availabele now so you can call them and get on the plan. You can get rid of the roaming minutes if you had like what I had $10/mo 50 roaming minutes, because now there is free roaming and long distance included in the extended areas, so go ahead and call Cust Soultions. I cant wait now for the 21st when my plan starts. The person that was helping me said he just started his shift and I told him your going to get very busy about this because this plan had been posted on lots of newgroups sites. But he hasnt had alot of calls yet.

Apparently the new free & clear america plans are actually $5 less per month in CA and some other markets than what is listed on this brochure so this is even a better deal for us!
