I have a 2 yr old SIM card that came in my 'freebie' lg phone. I recently purchased the LG CU500 and just transferred my SIM card to that. Do I need to get a new SIM card that supports 3g? Will my old SIM continue to work now and in the future? Thanks, Ellie
If you have anything below the 3G SIM I would highly suggest that you get one. The Cingular store should exchange that for you at no cost.
Thanks...I bought the phone outright at Walmart for $198 and am wondering if they should have included the SIM with the phone. It may have been my fault that they didn't. The person waiting on me didn't know a lot about the phones/service (and neither did I! LOL) and offerred to "set it up with Cingular" for me and I turned it down. I will talk to the Cingular store next week to see if they will swap it for me. Unless it should have come with one from Walmart.
with an outright sale and no service connection, they usually do not include the SIM. For you, the Cingular store will exchange the SIM with no issues.
Thanks, I will definitely go to the Cingular store next week to swap out my SIM. I wanted to check out the Nokia 6126 anyway and see how it compares to the LG. Ellie
but i think that the 3G SIMs not only support 3G but they are a little more efficient and work slightly faster than the old SIMs
I just renewed my contract last weekend and the way the Cinglar rep described it to me was, yes, my old SIM card would work but with the newer 3G phones I might start noticing increased dropped calls and "other network issues." She also said that the 3G cards are backwards compatible with the older phones without any problems. Given that info, I just ended up putting new 3Gs in all four of our phones. It was a seamless transition.
Thanks, everyone. I hope to get to the Cingular store tomorrow, if not I will have to wait another week. Did return the LG CU500 and bought the Samsung Sync. So far, I am pleased with it. Still waiting for the Nodia 6126, tho. Ellie
I hope this was just a typo, and that the new SIM's would NOT increase or cause Dropped calls & other Network issues.
Ahhh, lets try this again. If I chose to keep my old 2G SIM and placed it in a new 3G equipped phone that's when I might notice possible network issues, however, a 3G card in a 3G phone is the ideal combination. Sorry. Some times my brain gets ahead of my typing ability! :O
There is a difference but most phones and the last few years are 3G. If you look on the card there is a 3g right next to the contacts. If there is a fireball around the 3G, it will not be backwards compatible. No fireball, works with 2.5 and 3g.
I have two phones that are not 3G phones - a Nokia 6820 and a Motorola L2. I have a "flameball" 3G sim that works just fine with both of these phones. I've used both phones for voice, text, MMS, and data - no problems with either phone while using the 3G sim.
I'm not sure what you mean by back wards compatible. I have the new 3G fireball SIM card that came with my new MOTORAZR V3xx, and the SIM card works in my non 3G phones just fine.
I did go to the Cingular store and they gave me a new 3G SIM to replace my old one. They inserted it, so haven't looked yet to see what color it is. Thanks to everyone for the advice. PS...really like my new Synch. Ellie
