From what I hear from two different contacts at Verizon, new PRL's should be out in just a few hours...hopefully the information I got is accurate otherwise posting this was a bad idea. :badidea:

Just went from 50567 to 50603 (ACII EVDO, Treo 700p) in Grand Rapids, MI. I believe that's a new PRL#, correct me if I'm wrong.

Preferred Roaming Lists - essentially a list of Verizon & other CDMA carriers' networks from which your phone chooses when acquiring multiple signals. Keeps your phone's priorities straight :)

Here's a pretty good FAQ from HowardForums: link

Thanks to mathwhiz, here are the changes:

PRL 50579 (AC II) has been released and here are the changes compared to PRL 50558. Some changes in priority and changes from A to D/A may not be noted along with any other changes that I may have missed.

An update was done to the acquisition table, and those changes are not noted here.

So it basically looks like the only 'loss' is SPCS in Phoenix, AZ. Other than that just some ALLTEL Analog in MI, but ALLTEL CDMA is said to be excellent there anyways...I wonder if VZW gets a better rate for customers roaming on ALLTEL's CDMA side, versus their AMPS side.

Why would VZW drop the Analog off of its own system?

My guess is they are trying to get people off the amp's spectrum so the they can further limit the bandwidth allocated to it even though most customers should be using CDMA already. Could be also they are combining SIDs.

The carriers are consolidating their SID's. The ones dropped are no longer being used.

On your phone, you should be able to access the info somewhere. Mine is listed in Menu>Phone Info>Other Information>PRL

but im not sure how the VZ navigator works (is that what you have on your razr?) Maybe check your documentation.

thanks. Did a *228->update on mine last night and this morning it is setting on 50603 for the PRL.

It did something pretty big changes, 'cause it usually only takes a second or two. This time it took a couple of minutes.

VZW CS told me that by the 10th of every month, you should do a *228 -> update. This will keep phone up to date with PRL's and such.

I have never heard of that before... but they put out a PRL every 60-90 days from the looks of it. Everytime I call CS, they ask me to do the updates lol; My mom has no clue about this so she hasnt updated. She's in Atlanta (and never travels) and VZW phones will only work on VZW in Atlanta anyway... so a PRL update would be a moot point anyway (unless they include Sprint in atlanta, and that's not gonna happen lol) :)

That's what i thought until i found Verizon added a bunch of new PCS sites in the perimeter of our Cellular-band market. Your phone will not look for ANY of their own PCS-band sites unless they appear in the PRL. I gained maybe a dozen new VZW sites in our state by updating.

So bill are those PCS only sites added in Verizon's 800 market or is that in an area that Verizon has only PCS licenses?

The PCS sites closest to my house are in Elbert County where Verizon lost some of the territory to Commnet Wireless who acquired the B band license under Phase II rules. Verizon used their Qwest PCS spectrum there to add 3 suburban areas to their native coverage.

In a few other sites in the mountains I'm not as sure. While they have the 850 MHz spectrum there, I was not able to 'see' the new sites until I upgraded my PRL to one that included the Verizon PCS entry for our market. What few reservations I had about Verizon coverage have abated as they continue to add new cell sites, regardless of "band".

Now that Verizon has deleted Sprint in AZ, I am once again resisting the latest PRL, but recent benefits outweight that objection.
