Just updated with *228. Razr now has PRL 30005 and 2865i has 20005. Has anyone looked at the changes yet?
I updated last week and still have 36606. Did not know about the 20005. I will try and update mine and see what happens.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4719/1378; en; U; ssr)) I have the prepaid service and I went from 606 to 20005... I have the LG 4270
PRL stands for Preferred Roaming List and it's the list of SIDs that tells the phone which networks to roam off of. For example, Sprint and Verizon are two of Alltel's biggest roaming partners, so on the National Freedom plan, they are more-or-less the "extended network." An Alltel phone is always going to try and use an Alltel network, however, if an Alltel network is unavailable, it will try to find a Sprint or Verizon before trying to find, say, a US Cellular network. On the National freedom plan, the phone shows "home" when on the Alltel network, "flashing roam*" while on the Sprint & Verizon networks** and solild roam on any other network. "Home" means you won't get charged, "flashing roam" means you're on the extended network and won't get charged and "solid roam" means you're off-network and will get charged. Most, if not all, CDMA handsets have a PRL. GSM handsets have something like it, from what I understand, but it's more back end than a CDMA PRL. *Meaning the roaming indicator blinks on and off **This is oversimplified for the example, the real National Freedom extended network includes many carriers, not just Sprint and Verizon, but they are the two preferred carriers to use if an Alltel network is unavailable because of the favorable roaming rates worked out between Alltel and the other carrier.
One correction, once out of your 'home' area, you may still be on the Alltel network and the triangle will still blink.
Ok, i know why we dont have to deal with that @ Midwest. Its because our home area is so small, we never have to update it
I believe there was an old post, that had a link to a site where one could download the previous 206 and 606 PRLs (can't find it, now). If that site has the new PRLs, and that poster could give us the link again, it would be appreciated.
http://www.rainyday.ca/~dialtone/alltel/alltel.htm That's it. But they haven't put out the interpretation of the latest one.
I have a quick question, do you have to update something like a PRL on a GSM phone or is PRL just for CDMA carriers?? If you can update a GSM phone, could someone tell me how, I tried 228 but it didnt work.
GSM doesn't use PRLs the same way CDMA does. There is a preferred network list of sorts...but I don't know much about it.
Thanks for that link, but I was talking about a site that had the actual PRLs, which could be downloaded, then loaded into phones (with certain software), not the interpretation lists.
ugh, we did a PRL push to phones over the weekend apparently, and now customers SMS isn't working... is that normal?!
Normal, no, but Sprint did a software push to certain phones and fried them OTA. They had to replace hundreds, if not thousands of phones all because they couldn't test the software before they sent it out over the air. I guess what I'm saying is, stopping SMS isn't as bad as frying the phone.
Thanks for that link. I hope people using some of those other PRLs will be able to pull a copy off their phones, and send them in.
I just did the *228 update yesterday and it went from 606 to 40001. Nat'l Freedom 1000 / $49.99 is my plan and Nokia 6015i.
I did the PRL in southwest MN. I checked it again. It is 40001. I also just checked my friend's Moto E815 and after she did *228 to update PRL it is now40002. They aren't typo's, 40001 and 40002 are correct. The SID's are both 1367.
No, not for his Nokia 6015i, because that's a former Western Wireless/CellularONE phone, but most recent Alltel-branded handsets should be capable of receiving and installing OTA software/PRL pushes.
