I guess I could get my Cingular V600 flashed with T-Mo software if that is the case. :D Unless that would end up locking the phone...then forget it.

I'm sure it is easy to flash/flex to the OEM software (I would prefer this) too, but I fear doing something disastrous to the phone in the process. :)

Cingular's world band phones come unlocked. The Motorola V600 is a world band phone I think. So it should be unlocked.

Oh it is unlocked...that's how I can use it on T-Mobile. I just didn't want it to end up locked if T-Mo put their software on the phone.

Wait just a minute. I see your profile now has Sprint PCS and T-Mobile. Did you drop AT&T Wireless and sign up for T-Mobile?

    What happened?

Yeah...2 weeks ago (or more). :)

    AT&T = $62/mo for 450 minutes and extras ($22/mo for 4mb WAP and 300 outgoing SMS)

T-Mobile = $50/mo for 600 minutes and extra ($10/mo for unlimited WAP and 1000 SMS, and 20 MMS)

You confuse me with how much you switch around carriers and change phones lol. Do you think you can stick to one carrier with one phone for at least 3 months so I can keep in the loop?

Yes, several times in fact. I didn't want to be too hard on Nextel ;)

How is T-Mobile working out for you? It sounds like you got a pretty good rate plan with them but I'm wondering how the service is with them in your area.

Service is good. So far I would say much better than Cingular, about equal to Verizon, and a tad bit below ATT and Sprint. The lower cost more than makes up for that in my mind though. Still, I have not gone anywhere on the west side of town yet. I will tomorrow night though when I go to a place where Sprint and Verizon stunk but Cingular (on a GAIT phone) and ATT worked fine. I guess I will get to see how TM stacks up with the other two GSM carriers.

I just flexed and flashed my Cingular V600 to Motorola OEM...wow...ten times better now. I feel like I have a new phone. No more annoying Jack logo everytime it starts up/powers down or when I start the browser! Not to mention many new menu features that Cingular crippled the phone with. Oh well, at least they are willing to sell unlocked phones unlike that company they are buying. ;)

It's nice to see that T-Mobile's phone line up is finally improving. Up until now I've found there phone selection quite rather slim and many of them seem to be older phones. The list is improving lately though.

T-Mobile still needs some more new phones though and to phase out some of the older ones. They need to get rid of the Samsung R225m and Motorola V66 they are such old phones and they have been selling them forever. It's time to replace those 2 models with something newer.

I agree...and for them to introduce the Nokia 6800 last week and sell it for $149 while Cingular has disco'd it already and ATT is clearancing it for free/$50 is a joke. I guess the good thing about GSM is you don't have to be tied down to the phones your provider offers if you are willing to spend a little more $$$.

The Samsung D415 is also available.

Regarding the 6800 - I agree that it's old :D for a debut. But, TM doesn't have a need for the 6820 right now (no EDGE yet althoough I think it has BT and a few other improvements), and remember, most customers of GSM carrieris have no idea how GSM works WRT using unlocked phones. We're the unprivileged few, relatively :D

TM has a record (for them) 14 phones on their website now. I'd expect the v66 and r225 to go away soon. I think the Moto v80 (could be wrong on the model number) should be out in the next few months.

I hope they carry the v80... that's a nice phone but right now it's extremely expensive to get an unlocked one. Up to $600 from where I've been looking. It's a nice update from the v70. And I agree... that R255m needs to go. It's been there for over two years if I'm not mistaken. I'm surprised they finally took off the nokia 3390 gold a couple of months ago...

About a month ago, I heard they would carry the v80, but I haven't heard anything since. An unexpected addition seems to be the Samsung c225, which I think is a color version of the r225. The r225 is old, but it's a good basic phone and has sold very well for TM.

I know they sold the X105 as a replacement for the R225m but they dropped the X105 for some reason and kept the R225m.

T-Mobile has locked the 850 MHz band on their v600, so you are not getting a Quad-Band v600. From their website - World Phone: Tri-Band (900/1800/1900MHz). They have done this in the past to some of the other phones that also had 850 MHz. No roaming agreements with anyone for that band, so they lock, disable that band.

Yeah, and T-Mobile sucks for that. I was just at a T-Mobile store buying a case for my V600 and the guy that sold me the phone said he thinks T-Mobile also crippled the Bluetooth so that it only works with a headset. I have never heard this before so I wonder if he just can't seem to get his computer and phone to pair up.

Bluetooth can be a pain to pair up, especially when you are learning how to pair devices & installing the software correctly. So more then likely he just couldn't get it to pair up.

And I would think flashing the firmware to the OEM would fix the lock on the 800 band, not to mention unlocking other things that T-Mobile crippled. :)

Question for all you T-Mobilers out there. Where do you get your phones from? I know if you go to T-Mobile and you aren't activating a new line of service, they really hit you with the cost of the handset. I would like to get another phone, but don't know the best place to look with good prices for a new T-Mobile phone without setting up a new line. Any help would be appreciated.

    Wirelessly posted (Motorola V600: MOT-V600/0B.09.45R MIB/2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

eBay is one place to look. There are also a number of sites that sell phones. A google search will turn up these sites. also check the sell/trade forum here.

I really want that V600... but I looked on Amazon and you can get it for $49 from AT&T and $99 from Cingular, but T-Mobile want $249. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

Come on, Amazon, give me that good rebate lovin'!

I agree with AnthroMatt. eBay would be by far your best bet. :)
