I noticed today that the building next door to the Commerce bank on Forest ave/Spring Valley "hole" ( Not the Rt 4/Bergen Mall Spring Vally, the one north, closer to Midland Ave) They have installed the white 2 flat panels per sector that T mobile usually uses around here (6 panels).
This is next to the bank that VZW put a 2 sector rooftop site & an area where most other carriers have had weak to nonexistant outdoor sig strenth, & terrible or no indoor signals.
Could be Sprint too, I guess .... I doubt the site is running yet ...

    Kudos to Sprint or T-Mobile,
it's about time either one of them
Do something about this Dead Zone.

    My Guess is it's T-Mobile.
Cingular is 1 Bar on Spring Valley & Midland though.

Sprint uses that 2 white panel confirguration out here as well. In fact most of their sites are down to only one panel per sector now due to advances in technology.

Nothing in that area showing up yet for TM but it looks like a great candidate....

It's probably T-Mobile. Sprint only seems to be concentrating on adding CDMA to existing Nextel sites. I haven't seen them putting up many brand new sites. But who knows.

Well, even by just adding CDMA to iDEN sites, they can improve their signal dramatically in most metro areas!

Do you know where the Bergen Mall T-Mobile site is? If I remember right, T-Mobile was looking to put a flagpole at BJ's or do a rooftop at the little strip mall just to the south on 17. Do you know what they ended up doing at the rt17 - rt 4 area?

Yes, They have a site on the Roof of the Strip just south of the 4 interchange on RT 17N, A roof fascade does not allow a view of the panels from RT 17.

Thanks! I'm glad they followed through on that.

I think they had an in-building site for the interior of the mall across the street too, but I never went in to look for it. Might be some good gallery material over there.

I passed by that Commerce Bank today and it was kinda dark so I couldn't see the panels. Are they mounted on top of the building? I could only see a set of dark brown panels that looked like Nextels. This was on the Forest Ave. intersection with Sprint Valley. My phone had full signal there but it was not coming from that building.

Is this the Commerce Bank that you are referring to? 275 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ?

Yes, The Brown panels on the Commerce roof you saw are the VZW 2 sector site ( N/S) .. If you look close at the panels you will see the 2 inner are the thinner 1900's, while the outer 2 are the thicker 800's.
The Newly installed White panels, 3 sector, 2 per sector, (which I believe may be T-mobile), are actually on the other lighter colored Building Next door to the Commerce Bank building, & are very easy to see .. I have a feeling they may put up a fascade in front of them before work is done ...
This still could be Sprint or even Cing, but they really look like TMBl to me ....

When I passed I didn't have my Motorola with me which has the field test screens. If I had to take a guess, my service should've been around -80dBm to -85dBm at that intersection since sometimes my phone popped down to 3 of 4 bars but quickly went back to 4 which is full bars for my Nokia 6131. So I doubt it is Cingular since I had full bars (4/4) most of the time while around there which leads me to believe Cingular is not on that building. Most likely it would be T-Mobile.

Driving down towards Howland Ave (just before getting there), that's the only time when I saw the service decrease down to 2 bars, but still audio was fine. Other than that I had full bars pretty much all the time. So I could not find any dead spots in the area.

Those areas are fine for Cing.

It is the Midland Ave and Spring Valley Rd
that is the weak spot and a Dead spot for
    3 carriers.
    I don't know why they don't
put in on the KFC (kentucky Fried chicken) bldg
    on forest & midland ave.

    Hooray for T-Mobile,
these Panels are T-Mobile Not Sprint/Nextel.
T-mobile Finally fixed their DEAD ZONE.

Sprint/Nextel is Now the only Dead Zone here,
Since Cingular has full Bars standing in front of
this Area, though it's Not coming from this Location.

I'd love to know what site is giving Cing full bars in this hole, if indeed they have fiull bars in front of that bank ...
If anyone w/ Cing test screens on their fone (BoBo?) is in that area, stop in front of the bank & verify sig strength & what cell site ...
The building on Rt4/forest seems to be the next closest site, but all the other carriers are up there too & their signals didn't reach the hole very well, hence the recent VZW & TMbl sites.......

It's Possible that Cingular is in that Building Too,
since it's Full Bars and calls are Solid.

Hey guys I often get full bars when 1/2 mile or more away from a cell site. Bars are meaningless when trying to determine cell site location. Instead I use debug mode to track them by looking at the RSSI number. Usually anything less than -60 dbs means you are very close to a site.

Yep, Cingular is in that Building.
    They probably where there
    even before VZW.

I got a chance to see the panels and Cingular is definitely there in the building next to the bank. I got about -44dBm when taking this picture. By the looks of it, it seems that only one carrier is there, and I'm sure it's Cingular. The other time I went up there, they must have not been active as I was not getting that strong a signal as I did today. So it looks like it is not T-Mobile in those panels after all.

The other carrier above Commerce Bank with the dark brown panels, Meatchicken said it was Verizon. That cannot be seen from the angle of this picture.

Funny thing is Midland Ave is not that far and these panels barely make it there. I was getting -95dBm on the corner of Midland and Forest.

    As i remember there were 2 Building w/ Panels/Antennas,
so T-Mobile could be in there since their Compass Map
    now shows new Cell Site.
    Does Sprint/Nextel roam on VZW,
They don't have any Cell Site in this area.

Yes, the 4 Brown panels on the bank are VZW, I spoke with the VZW tech that installed the site (& I get about -40dBm in front of the bank too!), .. A good view of them can be seen just east on spring valley, across from & "Above" the bank due to the terrain .. It is a 2 sector N/S site, with the familiar config of 2 outer 800/2 inner thinner 1900 panels per sector VZW has been using around here.
The CING site look a lot like T mbl's sites, being 2 identical flat white panels ... usually w/ CING the 2 panels are slightly different size if you look close enough.., interesting, this will make it tougher to tell who is who between them if this is indeed a new CIng site ... Due to this CING site being 3 sectored & slighty higher than the neighboring VZW site, this site may work slightly better in some of the outlying spots too, depending on where the neighbor sites are ....
There are no other visible panels in the area ... Either Tmbile didn't actually put up a site here yet, but listed it on the "map" JOnes referred to, or is it possible that the CING housings are both sets ....??

PS: JONES: Yes, Sprint can roam on VZW, but the problem in these type areas is that the fone needs to lose service, & in many cases it will hang onto a barely useable 1 bar or less Sprint signal & never switch over .... I imagine people indoors that work in the bank w/ Sprint fones are roaming on VZW ....

    The Plot Thickens!!:) :
I just realized, there is a single white panel similar looking to these "Cing or TMbl" panels, on that same building, in the back on a "lower" roof ledge, faceing south down Forest ave.
It's been there for quite a while, even before this site was recently erected.
I ASSumed it was some sort of LAN or other panel because there was only 1.
.. BUT, if this is some sort of Cing single panel repeater, this would explain why the main panels look like Tmble, & why Jones says this site is listed as a new Tmbl site, & why Bobo got a strong CING signal in front of this building. .....
The panel I refer to would be to the left & behind the main panels on a lower ledge ... It can't be seen from the front/Forest side of the building, but can be seen clearly from the Bank lot or on Forest near the bank, looking at the back side of the roof in question.
Bobo - If you are ever back in the area take a look ...
Checking Tmbl signal there, & both Cing + TM a couple of blocks north would clear things up .. since the single panel is pointed south ...

I forgot to check how T-Mobile strength is at that spot. I can do a trick to my Motorola to quickly check T-Mo's signal even though I can't register on it due to roaming being blocked. I'll check on it next week.

By the way, here are the coverage maps for that particular area. Notice how T-Mobile clearly appears to have a site at that spot next to the bank. Sprint doesn't appear to have anything around that area. Nextel is just a shameful big dead spot. Cingular's map is virtually useless as it just blankets the whole area in orange, but notice how some Cingular 3G shows at the lower right corner indicated by the blue shading.

I have to pay closer attention next time. Maybe T-Mobile has been there for a longer time than we imagine. By looking at the picture I took more closely, there appears to be a panel-looking thing below the Cingular panels that appears to be a stealth panel. This could be T-Mobile. Check it out:

T-Mobile can't be there for Long
as i can still see their New Tower symbol
    a week ago.

I did'nt see that in the Picture
    till you put an arrow.

Cing maps needs to be refined
in Midland ave & Forest as it's only 2 bars
    at that intersection you mentioned.

BOBO: Drove by today, & indeed there is a panel below the top 2 ....
It is painted the same color as the bricks & very hard to see if you're not looking for it -- Nice Catch!! (I saw the one facing North tword Midland, I'll check on my way home for one on the south face of the building ....) It actually easier to seer in your foto than on site ...
So it seems that most likely both Tmbl & Cing are on that building, w/VZW next door on the bank ... That leaves Sprint & Nextel needing help here ...
