It has been a while since this has been thrown around, or anything has been posted about new mobile models on there way for Alltel. So has anyone got a scoop on anything new? the only thing I have heard from my local retail store is that a new HTC mobile is on its way, and maybe some new LG's in the next few months.

HTC Touch should be out on 1/10/08. Looks pretty darn cool, IMHO.

It would be an improvement over the Q... But i would still rather have the Touch or the 6800... over a non-touchscreen windows mobile device... if I wanted to go that direction I would just go with a Blackberry...

I've had window's "smartphones" in the past... and in my opinion is is really worth it to have the touchscreen.

The problem with the Touch that I found is that the keyboard is so small. Even smaller than the iphones. Maybe it can be inlargened, but I played with one at sprint, and could type one word without my fat thumbs hitting numerous others at the same time.

i agree above, the keyboard is tiny, and its "touch" abilities still require a stylist which is a waste IMO.

not to mention EV-DO is not as fast as people make it out to be, the Sprint Touch i played with did not seem any faster than most iphones, must be the processors playing a factor.

I am using an iphone now testing it out, and it is the best smartphone I have used for my needs, but I am having a huge problem with ATT's netwrok in central/northern wi. Pretty much the the CellularOne area they bought up is embarassing. That's why I am trying to figure out what to use on Alltel, which has significantly better reception in the state. My only option is looking like just getting a razr until alltel gets some new smartphones....although I may never by happy now that I tested the iphone. How about the iphone on alltel....that work rock. Maybe in 5 years once the exclusivity is up.

I hate to say this but think about years ago the razr came out and now it is nothing special at all. Five years from now I am sure there are going to be much better choices and better technology than the Iphone. Maybe phones as thin as a piece of paper.

If you want a larger physical keyboard go with a 6800... I have used the Iphone, and Alltel's touch, and I prefer the keybard on the touch over the iphone. Either one takes a little getting used to, but most pda keyboards do. (also, what "touch" abilities still require a stylist in your opinion?

As for the speed of EVDO, I'm not sure if you are looking at the speed of the applications on the phone or the network. Try and use a program such as slingplayer on EVDO, then use the same program on 1X... Huge difference.

Has to processor, EVDO will blow the doors off any iPhone because it's edge only.

Is there any word on the Rumor/Scoop coming in? I pressed my alltel reps here and they claimed to know nothing about it, but suggested the touch instead.

It would be awesome if the Rumor/Scoop would come out before May. Any news on that. I am a college student so I don't need an entire "smart phone" my mother has the moto q and is having a lot of problems. Apparently it doesn't work properly unless you have the extended battery.

As I said I'm a college student. Yes I text way more than I actually talk to people. I want a phone that has a full keyboard but is not a smart phone. The Rumor/Scoop is perfect for me. If anyone knows if it will come out before May I would love some info. Thanks:D

I don't know that it will be out before then, but in all likelihood, it shouldn't be much longer. Usually they're released about a month after a press release, which LG has already released. I've even seen a couple pics of this phone, in orange and blue here on HoFo.

Also, since a lot of people don't realize this, if you're upgrading phones, alltel allows phone upgrades if you're within 90 days of the end of your contract. So if it comes out before May, you should be able to get it before then.

Wow, I REALLY like the colors on the scoop. I'm not that big of a fan of the blue, but I really like that orange. That right there sold me. I'm switching as soon as it comes out... well, barring a ridiculously high price, of course.

What is the fix. My mom is getting sick of going into the store and them telling her she has to buy some new expensive thing everytime. She is seriously getting sick of Alltels customer service. Although yesterday she did go to another store and they still told her she would have to buy the battery but they were nice about it and seemed to know what they were talking about.

Try doing a Master Reset... (usually fixes most corruption problems with WM devices)

Handset Unresponsive or Freezing Issues Reported
Handsets that are currently unresponsive or have had the freezing issue in the past.
    1. Ensure customer understands that data will be lost and has taken the necessary steps to back up existing applications and data by synching the device.
    2. Remove and Reinstall the battery
    3. Press and Hold the center Navigation button
    4. While holding down the Navigation button Press and Hold the Power button
    5. Continue to hold both buttons until the green Master Reset screen appears (approximately 10-15 seconds). If the Master Reset screen does not appear and the handset completes the wake-up cycle remove the battery and repeat steps 1-4.
    6. Press the YES (left navigation button) to begin Master Reset
    7. Handset will power off then back on
    8. Press START (left navigation button) and then Scroll to System Tools
    9. Press the center Navigation button and then Scroll to Master Reset
    10. Press the center Navigation button then Press YES (left navigation button)
    11. This begins the Master Reset. Handset will power off then back on.
    12. This completes the Master Reset operation. Return handset to the customer

As for the original post, i've been playing with the touch for a few days, and do like the interface. And I'm also looking forward to the Scoop.... i think Alltel does need a replacement for the Strobe. The "kids" need a text friendly phone, it would also help sell more text plans.

Does anyone have any rough timeline as to when the scoop might hit stores? my v3m is beginning to show its age... and the rokr doesn't strike me as that appealing, not that it isn't a good phone, but I'd like a qwerty keyboard on a non-smartphone.

I read this on the net--

A few handsets going out in Q1 2008

    Handset: Tentative Launch Date:
    LG260 02/21/20008
    Samsung U706 03/13/2008
LG565 February (Yes, this handset is back)
    LG300 04/17/2008
LG830 (Touch Shine) February or March

I have not been able to confirm anything about the Touch Shine. Has anyone else heard anything?
