Cingular's next 3G handsets: Nokia 6282 and LG CU500 Cingular officially launched its 3G video on demand service yesterday. Cingular Video will only work on 3G handsets such as those launched yesterday. Like video services from Sprint, Verizon and others, Cingular will offer clips of popular shows, sports highlights and music videos on demand. Subscribers will not need to pay any additional fees for most content as long as they are subscribed to the MEdia Works unlimited data plan. There will be an additional charge for some content such as HBO shows and music videos. Cingular also announced that the next two 3G handsets it will launch are the Nokia 6282 and LG CU500. This indicates Nokia has upgraded the 6282 to include WCDMA 850 and 1900 for Cingular. LG has not shown off the CU500 before and little is known about this new handset. Anyone heard anything about specs or when it might come out?
I think it's about time.. Man!! are we extremely far in technology in comparison to the rest of the world.. This sucks..
Does the rest of the world also have to pay $240 per year just to listen to a couple songs and look at some news clips?
Yes that is a lot. I hope that comes down as more and more people sign up for it. Thats more than many pay for unlimited interent on the pc.
According to the rebate sheet now in Cingular stores, you also have to have MediaNet unlimited to get the $50 mail-in rebate on the Nokia 6282. I have been looking forward to trying out the 6282. I like its design and features, but I am probably not going to pay $20/month extra. I assume that if I'm not interested in video, just a faster Internet, I can get that with a lower priced Media Net package, is that right? That is, do I have to pay $20/mo for UMTS to work at all?
