A new PRL for EVDO phones has been released. Apparently it affects users in Southern California near the AZ border.

As always you will have to call *2 or use eCare to get flagged for the update.

Sounds like that could be the result of the Alamosa merger completion as they were the affiliate down there.

Why would that need a PRL update though unless Sprint changed the SID of that former network...

Only thing I can think of is that maybe Sprint added EVDO to the towers and the update will tell the phone to look for an EVDO signal before falling back onto 1x data?

That could make sense since you say it's a new EVDO PRL.

Oh man, this is bad. This sprint rep is trying to tell all new sprint phones have AMPS, and that 850 mhz = AMPS. This guy is bad...really bad.

    That is bad!

The Sprint Store supposedly didn't have the cable to update the PRL. It stinks that I couldn't get it done, but it may be a good thing as the lady that was there forgot to reprogram my 6600 the last time.

400-600 kbps was so heavenly. :D

Unfortunately you are all wrong. A PRL is: P referred R oaming L ist, and what it is, is a pricing list FOR service providers, that allows us to choose, from least expensive to most expensive (especially when we are now including roaming in most current plan) for our own purposes. A PRL does not allow a device of ANY kind to "find a tower" or "get faster EVDO" speeds! EVDO cards were strategically loaded onto towers across the country, with service not totally loaded and launched in all markets. PRL versions for Sprint PCS 3G devices are running 10031, while evdo devices are running 20219. PAY ATTENTION!!!! IF YOU DON'T GET IT THE FIRST TIME, DON'T KEEP TRYING!!! It might even load a previous PRL and then you'll have to got to a store to get the most current list loaded and they usually will either NOT have the cables or tell you they don't. Truth be told, unless you roam, a PRL update will NOT help you! I field these calls all day long! There have even been blogs all over the web about a PRL that makes a Blackberry EVDO. Truth be known, when it becomes truly available, it'll be released. I talked to a guy yesterday, that HAD an EV on his Blackberry, received an email (dead wrong info) about a PRL for 20220 which doesn't exist! He called in, demanded we flag his account, and he loaded a 3G PRL and he LOST the EV. You know what we had to tell him...TOO BAD SO SAD! YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT. See people think they know better. Sometimes it's better to listen to technical support, because this dork HAD it good!! I hope many people read this! I hope many people understand. Everything you read on the internet IS NOT TRUE!!!!!!! I have to disspell this rumor on a daily basis! Frankly I get real tired of telling people, "Just because you paid $600 for your device, does not make you right!"....I don't really tell them that, but I sure would love to sometimes!

Oh come on. Sprints reps keep on telling me that 200217 is the latest version, and that I actually have a version that is newer than they have! Now come on, does that make any sense? No, it does not. My a900, as well as other a900 users out there have always had trouble downloading the PRLs.

I am not a stupid consumer, I know what I am doing. Most of the time, i know more than what the stupid rep is telling me. (yeah, keep telling me that all newer sprint phones support analog and that 800mhz is ALWAYS analog)

And i'm afraid that YOU are wrong. EVDO PRLs do have the possibility to increase EVDO speeds. The EVDO PRLs help the phone acquire new EVDO towers, which can help on fringe areas. Sorry.

besides on another thread dated 01/27/2006, you said, and I quote," Sprint Sprint has issued PRL 20218 for EV-DO phones. It is not known what this update changes at this time.", and then, funny how I pointed this out to begin with, you also said, and I quote,"Good news! Verizon is still my preferred roaming partner".
You said you don't even work in the wireless industry, and unlike TV, what is put out on the internet is not always the truth!

Come on. Why would you guys prefer to keep feeding each other bad information? That's like having sex with the same ugly girl just because you're getting some. (lol) But seriously....I know you guys don't knwo me from Adam, but please, I currently work in Business Tech Support where EVDO is supported, and I just came from the Consumer side, so if anyone would know, it would be me. I am in charge of information dissemination at the departmental level. I just had enough today! Sometimes talking to these yahoos makes my head hurt because of the level of stubbornness I combat, in combination with the fact that everyone gets there information (or more correctly MISinformation) from discussion threads....so why not fight fire with fire, right???!!! MOSt of the people here put on their profiles, not only their YOUNG age, but that they don't even work in the wireless industry!

So if 20220 is NOT out there, how come I call *2 it tells me to hold for an update EVERY TIME, but never actually takes the update.
