Version 8720_01.1E.00 is now out, I highly recomend E815 owners get it. There is alot of talk about this at HoFo, but I figures since no one else mentioned it here I should bring it up. Fixes: Vibrate is stronger (that was very good news to me) Bluetoothe echo problem gone (also very good news to me) camera seems better in low light conditions, but I will need to give it more testing Voice command dissappearing when all quick texts deleted issue gone now That's what I have for now, I will edit as I find new things.
For real, a stronger Vibrate? Sweet!! That is the one thing I hate about this phone, a weak vibrate!!
That was one of my biggest complaints too, half the time I wouldn't even feel it going off. I guess they are just spinning the motor faster now.
Hard to say whether it will ship with the latest or not. Even if it doesn't, all you have to do is go to your local VZW store and have them flash it for you.
I think I will update mine tomorrow evening (around 5:30 my time). Then, I will be able to pick it up about an hour later (maybe more maybe less....) and I will be all set.
Let us know if the vibrate feels stronger to you gamer. I also have missed a lot of calls because of the weak vibrate!!
I will. Buickman told me that after he updated his 815, the phone vibration feels stronger to him. I will drop it off on my way home this evening, and once the update is complete, I will report back here.
Ok. I got the latest update. I notice right off the bat that the phone definitely has a stronger vibration to it now. I haven't had a chance to test out the bluetooth echo problem or the camera yet. I will have to test them both out when I get some free time.
Wirelessly posted (Motorola E815: MOT-8720_/00.62 UP.Browser/6.2.3.4.c.1.104 (GUI) MMP/2.0) another nice thing is that we now get iTAP when using the web browser.
I love the itap in the web browser. The only issue is itr takes a little while to get used to using it the web browser way versus the text message way.
What about DUN? Somewhere over on HoFo I read that it is still possible but not as easily as with the old firmware. I have not updated yet because I am still unable to find a definite answer on this. If anyone knows where to point me to find this information or if anyone has experiences themselves, please let me know. Thanks!
Oh, I also like the fact that the alarms are reliable now. Before if you missed a call or a text message the alarm woldn't go of.
Had mine flashed today and it did not fix a thing....They did give me a new phone though and the vibrate is weak on that one too, The new phone had the new firmware as well, so it appears that the E815 is destined to have a weak vibrate.
Hmm, that is weird. After I had mine flashed, I immediately noticed a stronger vibrate among the other changes. Did you verify that you have Version 8720_01.1E.00 after going to Menu, Phone Info (9), Other Information, S/W Version.
Yea I did and it was the new one. However, I should note that the Verizon Store in Casper, WY just got authorized to do upgrades to phones. Before, a person had to drive 200 miles (one way) to Fort Collins, Co to have this done. I wonder if the folks in Casper really know what they are doing as there are only 2 people certified to run the upgrades on the phones. It only took me 3 trips to get the flash done. So I have my doubts, as it took them over 2 hours to do the flash once they could work me in. But I did get a new phone ( which is weak with vibrate) so I will wait until I get somewhere else and have this done to the new phone.
It shouldn't take them two hours to do the upgrade (unless like you said, they don't know what they are doing). My phone took the tech about 30 minutes to do. And that was with the tech working on other phones.
So if my version is 8720_01.17.03, than I need the upgrade, right? My vibrate does seem to be weak. Just got the phone last week. I like it, especially the battery! I don't have to charge everyday!
You don't have to upgrade. But if you want the features that people have said, then I suggest that you upgrade. It takes about 30 minutes with a knowleadable tech performing the flash, and then it is done. Just be sure there isn't any text messages that you want. Because once your phone is flashed, it erases all of your saved messages (Text or Pix).
I realize this is an old thread, but does anyone know if the Verizon Wireless mini-store in the Arcadia, CA mall performs firmware upgrades? Secondarily, why is it that my e815 does not record sound when recording video, yet my brother's slightly less expensive Samsung phone (the one with the red highlighted case) does?
I had mine flashed today. I'll have to use the BT headset tonight to see if the clarity is better. Picture quality does seem better. I would say the kiosks can't do it, they probably don't have the room for the equipment to perform the flash upgrades on all the phones. I'd head to a stand-alone verizon store that has a service dept. Good luck
I have 8720_01.17.03.. anyone think this will fix my problem of the phone doing a soft reset at least two times a day?
e815 is a great phone, but i don't like is the voice command thing.. you say something stupid and it will come up with list of peoples names. and when you try to call someone with the voice command thing it doesn't find the name or number! where can i get free ring tones and where can i find my vzw.pix?? HELP ME!
That's strange, the VAD has been working fine for me. But, I really only use it with my BT headset. It can be annoying if there's background noise, which distorts the voice command that the phone hears. To Etorres: I thought I read that the upgrade does resolve the soft resetting issue. I'd go for it
