Some leaked images suggest AT&T will be changing their text message plans. The $5/200 and $15/1500 plans will be replaced by a single $10/1000 plan. It looks like you can keep what you've got, but after the 23rd, new customers will pick from the $10 and $20/unlimited plan. There's also a requirement for Quick Messaging phones to have an unlimited plan. I'll stick with my $5/200 plan, but my wife has to throttle her messaging to stay under 200. Her overages have never been to the $10 mark, but I'll probably change her plan so that she can message more freely. Ironic that I switched her to the $15 data plan, but I'll probably need to put her on a $10 texting plan.
I think its really sad they did this. To me, its forcing people into buying more then they need. Geez, even Verizon offers a $5 text plan.
They're definitely going to miss out on the entry level texters. I think they're $0.25 a pop right now, so the non-texters will just stick to under 40 messages/month and save money. That's a really big gap to 1000 messages/month. They're trying to double up on VZW's $10/500 plan, but VZW has had a $5/250 plan for a while that was superior to AT&T's entry level offering. I think the $5/$10/$20 structure is the way to go. If AT&T kept the $5/200 and $10/1000 plans, they would get a lot of value seekers switching to the $10 plan. I think they'll still see a lot of people move up, but not having a $5 plan is going to hurt.
I actually liked the $15 plan. Lol, when it comes to texting, I'm comfortable at that level. Having it now at 1000 and not 1500 feels a bit tight to me. I think its wrong they did that. I'm over at HoFo on another tab in a thread about this. I posted the same thing. Some guy said, AT&T isn't forcing anything, you have PPU, blah blah. While, technically thats true, I still beg to differ. The PPU prices are a pure rip off and the company knows this hence the messaging packs. They know customers will be virtually forced into the packs for texting and they took away the $5 and replaced it with something that is $5 more. Its outrageous.
I am not understanding how doing away with the $5/200 starter package makes their plans look more attractive.
That too. I think the reason why we're scratching our heads is because the press releases or reasons given by the company are always such BS so we're stuck trying to figure out the real reason why and it doesn't take us long to do that.
Well, you're in a good position then. You can keep your $15 plan as long as you like, and then you have the new option of downgrading to $10/1000 or upgrading to $20/unlimited. You just won't be able to go back once you change. If 1000 is tight and you prefer 1500, then its unlikely you'll ever consider the 200 message plan.
Lol, you misunderstand. I'm not on AT&T, I got Verizon. However, I did like the $15 plan that AT&T had. =)
No $5 messaging option will suck for the new ATT users... if its a teen, they'd just go unlimited and be done with it. As a Verizon, user, I am on the $10/500 message plan. Not much, but messaging other Verizon numbers counts as umlimited; so I make out like a bandit. If they kill this, I will cry lol
Verizon has killed its $15 messaging plan months ago. $5/250 $10/500 + unlimited m2m messahing $20/5000 + unlimited m2m messaging If one is spending $20 for messaging, the difference between "Talk" and "Talk & Text", one should just go for the Talk and text ; For families, if the costs is more than $30, Talk/text for family plans is appropriate
In the photos, they are changing the requirements for their quick Messaging phones... $5 text + daea will no longer meet AT&T's requirement... You must select Unlimited messaging.
That's ridiculous! Just because I have a quick messaging phone doesn't mean I need nor should I have to buy unlimited texting. That's why I refuse to buy a "smart phone" of any kind. I don't want to have to purchase unlimited data - I don't use the internet. But, it would have been nice to have one of the nicer phones out there. Oh, well. It's all about raising prices, but trying to make us feel better about it. I have unlimited text for myself, and use the $5 plan for my boyfriend. I'm the only one he texts, so it would be a wast of money to spend an extra $5 for 800 messages that won't get used.
Now that is ridiculous. ATT gave my mother in law a hard time about blocking text altogether because she did not want to sign up a plan, and $0.20 a message was to much, but she has it blocked. Maybe I can talk her into prepaid. I think this won't have any affect because people still want their premium phones.
Here in Turkey in pre-paid numbers I can buy 10,000 SMS for 6$ to use only with members of my provider. 1000 SMS with all providers is about 6.75$. But I use youngs tariff and in this tariff I can send 5000 SMS to all providers for about 6.75$. Vodafone TR even has 10.000 SMS for Vodafone and 2.000 SMS for all providers packet for 6$! But for non-paid users, there is no such plan, 300 SMS for 6$.
