I currently have Virgin Mobile and I am thinkning about switching to Net10. I think Net10 uses Cingular and T-Mobile networks but I am not sure. If you know please tell me. If they are the networks Net10 uses will my new phone use both networks at the same time or will it choose one for my area? I live in the Vineland/Millville area in New Jersey. Will my phone roam if I do not have service? If so which networks will it roam on? Thanks.
Net10 roams on one service or the other not both at the same time...I'm not sue about your area...i believe they roam on cingular in your area, if they roam on T-mobile the coverage is far worse in vineland. Just by looking at the maps you can tell. The phone may also roam if you ever go into canada on those networks, it should always find an available GSM tower as long as there is one. However only on T-Mobile and Cingular will it be 10 cents a minute. They do say there is "No Roaming" that usually means it is only those two, it lets you use some regional providers like Dobson, and Cennetennial. It may even let you use Alltel's WW GSM network out west, but just by looking at the coverage maps i think that may be a stretch. Actually you should give them a call and find out...trust me you don't want T-Mobiles network in your area. If you can get an english speaking rep that actually knows what they are talking about and it is on T-Mobile, I would look to Tracfones regional plans that use CDMA phones. But if they use cingular in your area you should be ok. Don't let them tell you both because that is an out right lie, you can only be on one network at a time unless that network the phone is looking for is not available, then it will switch onto the other.
If TracFone or Net10 use CDMA or GSM it will be determined by where you live. You will not have a choice if you get a local number.
Here is the answer I got: Dear Customer, Thank you for your interest in NET10 Wireless. We are responding to your recent inquiry. "NET10 uses the wireless networks of major wireless Carriers across the US. Regarding your question, different phone models may use different carriers depending on the area where they are activated and also are able to switch between other networks when Roaming within the US, Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands. Should you have any other question or concern, please feel free to let us know. NET10 Wireless" Basically telling me nothing new.....and not answering my question.
They've told you the way it is. If you're in different areas the service uses different models phones and different networks. Translation: They use GSM networks such as cingular or T-Mobile. They also use CDMA networks such as (and not limited to) Verizon. If you posed a question to them asking about which network and equipment they use in a particular location they might be able to tell you. Otherwise their answer that they use different networks and equipment depending on where you are is as right an answer as could be given.
Tracfone uses different technologies, but Net10 is strictly GSM. If you don't have GSM service available you can't user Net10. As was just stated, Net10 does use different providers depending on the zipcode you sign up with.
Yes, Net10 uses Cingular in Cumberland Co, NJ. Net10 will roam the same way a Cingular plan will roam. It will most likely NOT roam on T-Mobile, so there might be nobody else to roam on in your area. If Cingular is bad in your area then don't go with Net10! Cingular has an excellent coverage map tool so you can see how well it works in your area: http://63.241.153.180/coverageviewer/B2B.html
I did, I gave them the exact Zipcode for Vineland, NJ....although I did not specify which phone only that it is GSM, and asked T-Mobile or Cingular. Here is my question... "I was wondering what network you guys use in New Jersey, specifically zip code 08360, Vineland, if I were to get a phone number from there. I know it is either Cingular or T-Mobile, but which one is it? Thanks!" Oh and Tracfone offers both CDMA and GSM phones, the CDMA phones are regional coverage areas and roaming outside that, and GSM is nationwide single rate coverage similar to Net10 but under a different name and more expensive.
I would say it's a 99% chance they use Cingular here in NJ, especially since the coverage is better then T-Mobile. Did you try the Cingular Street level map that dmarkson provided? Most area's in southern Jersey should have good coverage, untill you get to the boonies by Carnies Point & the pine barrens. As long as you are on the major roads you should be fine, also Cingular does have repeaters inside most of the casino's if you go there.
Oh they did already I posted it above. They didn't tell me much. I would assume that they use Cingular.
If Cingular and T-Mobile are both available in my area can I choose which one I use? Can I found out which one I am on?
I think they claim in the email that depending on which GSM phone you pick it will assign you to one. But I doubt this is the case. I believe all GSM tracfone/net10 phones in your are run off Cingular.
