I am using Nextel. My phone is old and needs replacing. My contract is expired, and Nextel won't sell me a new phone unless I renew the contract or pay retail. I don't want to do either, but hate the idea of looking for a new provider. I was thinking of buying a phone on e-bay. any suggestions on how to do this successfully? I was told I need to check on the sim card number if I do this? I hate to buy a phone on e-bay and screw this up. Also, phone suggestions? I do like the speaker phone option, but other than that don't need a fancy phone.

    TIA,

    Iris

First of all, welcome to WA!
Why don't you want to extend your contract w/ Nexel? You say that you hate looking for a new provider, so Nextel works for you, right? I'm asking because if you do buy a phone off ebay, it's going to be more expensive than buying a new phone from Nextel and renewing your contract. If Nextel works for you and you don't plan on moving anywhere in the close future and they'd give you a good deal if you renewed your contract, then I would buy the phone from Nextel and extend my contract...just an idea.

I have had some problems with signal strength, and haven't been sure if it's the phone or the provider, so I really hate to make another two year comittment. I thought if I can get a new phone with a decent price I can see if it makes a difference. I do like my current plan though, which I can keep even if I don't have a new contract.

If I get a phone from e-bay, I can buy it for much less than retail.....though of course more than if I sign a new contract. I thought it might be a good compromise if I can do it successfully.

    Thanks for the feedback!

PS and thanks for the welcome!

Which phone do you have now? There are 2 different sim cards, the easy way to tell is whether which one you have is the the all the 2 digit phone models....ie i50, i60 have the 32k sim, and all of the 3 digit phones....ie i530, i730 have the 64k sim. Now the 2 different sims are compatable with eath other in that you will be able to make and receive calls in either kind of phone, but you will lose some phone book functionallity if you put a 32k sim into a 64k phone. DC me later if you have any more questions.....my phone is dead right now and I dont have the charger..... Hope this helps!!!!
