my friend gave me her old sidekick ID. i really want to get a plan so i can use it for web browsing, AIM, texting and the like, but voice minutes aren't necessary. (but free nights and weekends would be awesome.)

    i would prefer a plan w/o a contract.

the phone does have a card in it.

i've tried to figure it out on the t-mobile website but it just seems like every plan they have on there requires you to buy a phone.

    any advice would be appreciated.
    thanks!

You will have to take the phone to your local T-Mobile dealer to have it activated, and while there discuss which plan would be best for you.

Welcome to WA bubble. Like Jay said, the best thing to do is to take the phone to a T-Mobile store and they'll activate the phone for you and you can choose a rate plan that best suites your needs. When you go in ask for Flexpay. Its basically a no contract plan.
The cheapest rate plan that tmo has is $29.99 for 300 minutes. It includes unlimited weekends. You have two choices for data plans on the sidekick (for surfing the web, AIM, e-mail etc.). It's $24.99 for unlimited web/e-mail and 400 text/picture/video message or 34.99 for unlimited web & messaging. The data plan is in addition to w/e minute plan you have. So, you cheapest plan would be about $55/mo + taxes.
If you dont want any minutes, t-mobile gives you the option of just going with a data plan @ $44.99 or $54.99. Both include internet, while the 1st is 400 messages and the 2nd is unlimited messaging. If you do happen to use your phone, then your looking at $.20/min.
