Re: Why I enjoy Apple's iOS and why I stay with it.

So per your definition i did this totally backwords? :D.

I can see why with 130+ you like the folder and grid system vs the alphabetized list in WP. Btw, Android allows you the folders as well.

As for widgets and tiles on the home screen, the three that are the most important to me are calendar and the to do list for the day and the weather now and for the next couple of days.

With the iOS Reminder app I can see the number of tasks for the day but I need to open the app to see what they are.

elecont HD weather app shows the present temperature, but again to see any more details I need open the app and ofcourse the stock calendar app doesn't show any badges.

Other than that I do agree with all that you have said. When I first got my iPhone I did it with the explicit intention of switching back to WP as soon as the apps I need appeared for WP. Since then I have grown to like my iPhone and with ios7 it is going to be a tough decision whether or not I switch.

Thank you very for taking the time to post the detailed and informative post. :)

LOL, I should have been more clear. I wasn't thinking of you or other forumites here. The first time user is more likely (someone I know) that is afraid of computers, let alone smartphones.

I see your point on the calendar, To-do list and weather. I find the pull down notifications useful for me. One swipe down shows the To-do reminder that I typed in, the calendar memos for today. And also the local weather (manual or GPS located). A swipe to the right gives the weekly forecast. All without going into the Apps, since all the details are there.

In settings, I edit notifications so that these three are at the top of the screen, above my email and stocks.

I should also mention how useful iMessage has become now that it seamlessly interfaces with my Mac and iPad. I can switch back and forth iMessage conversations with no effort, and no additional software.

Well, I am late to this party. I spent quite some time trying to think of the things I really missed from Android (never having used WP) since switching to the iPhone on the very same day as Chaitali back in February ;).

I'd say the biggest things I miss are the customization options for my home screen and launcher. Widgets, while cool, are only so helpful. They come in handy when your screen is on and you aren't doing anything else on your phone but looking at that screen. I also miss the ease of toggling Bluetooth and wifi on/off, but that's finally about to be a non-issue.

With iOS I live the battery life, which given my line if work, is always my main concern. The stability of the device is great. It still hasn't crashed in 6 months of ownership.

iMessage was great for "texting" my girlfriend while she was in China and avoiding international SMS charges. I don't find the iMessage integration with Mac OS as seamless as viewfly. If my computer has been asleep, when it wakes up all the iMessages sent in the time since it was last awake are always in no sort if order whatsoever.

I've now had the same phone for 6 months for only the second time in the past 5 years. I think I found a keeper.

Re: Why I enjoy Apple's iOS and why I stay with it.

Nice post, that was funny how we both got the iPhone on the same day without any prior discussion about it. ;)

Which other phone? If I may ask. :)
Thanks viewfly, I have the calendar and reminders on in the notification and yes that is helpful. Only the built in weather app shows in the notification center, I use eWeather HD and only alerts from it show up in the notification center. Maybe with the changes in iOS 7 I can go back to using the built in app as my primary.

As with Anthromatt, iMessage is not as seamless for me as you. Other than the conversations showing up in random order after a period of dormancy deleting a message string from one device does not necessarily delete it from the other two. It is definitely still helpful though.

Re: Why I enjoy Apple's iOS and why I stay with it.

My seamless experience comes about when I received a new iMessage on my iPhone, and after a few exchanges decide to flip to my iPad/Mac. and then go back again.

I agree, the past history, when the Mac is closed, seems confused. It sorts by time (or manual), but sometimes it doesn't pick up the full history. I've found some of this is due to whether email or iMessage was the sender. And, sometimes, when I start a new convo with a person, then their history comes through. Agreed, that could be better though.

Nice review of your experiences AnthroMatt. What do you think of the new LifeProof Nuud? Slightly off topic

The Atrix 2. Had that from late October 2011 until March 2012 when I got the Vivid. Maybe that was just 5.5 months, but close enough to 6. :)

Just posted in that thread on MacRumors, but in a word...NO. :p

Thanks. Iirc I got the Vivid, a day before or after you did.

Oh btw, not to be picky but you have had your iPhone for 2 days short of 5 months but who is counting. :D

    Sorry for the OT.

Ha! Well I am not getting another phone for the foreseeable future, so I am already counting this one as 6+ months.

You can't stop now, you need to try WP for sure and perhaps even BB10.

So Charylee what 3 apps are you missing in WP that Apple already has?

    1. Data Counter - interestingly it is a Nokia app and 7.5 had it but 8 does not.
    2. The Do Not Disturb Mode.
    3. A particular blood Glucose tracking app.

Those are the three main ones, there are a handful of others like banking apps etc but there are easy work arounds for those. For number 3 I was using my iPad but for number 2, being overseas during hurricane Sandy and election campaigns, I couldn't take it any more. Every time the phone rang in the middle of the night I would jump up from from bed convinced it was bad news about my elderly diabetic father.

All three are available on Android as well. I like the Do Not Disturb app on Android better. It is called the Bedside mode and unlike iOS it allows for white list for text messages as well.

I think you are looking for company in your misery. :p

There actually maybe an iOS app like the Bedside Mode, I haven't really looked for it since thinking through it I decided that in an emergency no one was going to text me, they would call instead. Even if they did text, they would call if they didnt get a a reply back from me right away, so it is okay to have the texts turned off during that period as well.
