This is a review of my Black Nokia N73ME, as posted on Phone Scoop! After months and months with Windows Mobile Devices, I switched back to a Symbian platform, and I am very happy I did. The stability of Symbian is a refreshing change from freeze-ups and reboots, and hard resets. Acknowledging that there is NO perfect OS available, I would rate the Symbian OS one of the best on the market. I purchased mine (N73-ME-Black) from Phonesource.com, and I am extremely pleased. PROS: Great RF, Nokia, "You think" Beautiful and very large screen-QVGA-very bright and crystal clear The handset is light and easy to grip, and feels very solid Battery is typical Nokia, it "loves you long time" The keys are a very firm and have a nice click to them when pressed Nice joystick, easy to use and very responsive Internet is super fast, although not 3G, you really do not notice Bluetooth is good, no issues so far Camera (3.2MP) is the best feature, almost too good to believe on a phone. I have heard many people say that is not important, and that is fine. Use this camera and then tell me that!!!!! It is just as good as my 5MP Canon Camera. Music Player is 2nd best feature, with stereo speakers on the top and bottom, the sound is as good as any ipod I have seen. CONS: No 3G, I love 3G No WiFi, not a problem Nokia Pop Port-wow-the evilness of proprietary hardware This is another great Nokia product, and for people that are looking for a business phone first, with good PIM exchange and fast e-mail, this is much better then a full blown Pocket PC!
Glad to see that you are happy with it and having fun playing with it. Good luck to you. PS: For sure don't forget to let me know just before you list it on E-Bay in a couple of weeks.....:lmao:
There is cheese in your state that is just as old as your standing joke. I am well aware that out of the "Hundreds" of phones I have had, and the "Thousands" of reviews I have done, that you are FIRST on my PM list before it hits eBay!!! No problem buddy! :rasp: :highclap:
Hmm nothing better aged cheddar and a few others. Besides you would be so dissapointed if didn't bring up E-Bay.... Seriously though you know I am a Nokia fan and I think the N73 is a great phone. You may remember I had the standard N73 as my avatar for quite sometime just after it was announced. At this time having gotten used to WM5 & 3G and not having any problems with WM5 (knocking on my head) I probably would not veer of this path. Enjoy your new toy.
Godd luck Steve with your new toy! I have been eyeing this phone, but unfortunately it is not supported by Cingular so I will not be buying it.
I don't know Joe, maybe one of these I can finally convince you that Cingular not branding/offering/supporting a phone, is a good thing
Not 'supported' by Cingular? Its a quad band right? So there shouldn't be any problems using it on any GSM network right? Be it Cingular or Cellular One or T-Mobile correct?
You are correct. Out of the box the voice and the SMS will work . In order to get MMS & web browsing you will need to down load the settings for your provider. Here is the Nokia Setup link, it will guide you through the options and OTA the settings to your phone. Hope this hellps. PS: What josephd means is that you will not get any help from Cingular and no warranty coverage. For all of us unbranded phone users this has never been a problem.
Customer Service? Warranty? Its been so long since I've had good customer service, I've all but given up on it! Thats why I've been hanging out here. These forums are way better than any outsourced customer service rep getting paid peanuts and reading from a script. You should still have the manufacturers warranty though. I think that'd be enough for me.
The reason that Charlyee and I don't dwell on warranties and things like that is because we really don't keep a device long enough for it to break-:loony: :rotfl: :rotfl: :highclap: :highclap: PS, Buy the phone Mike, it is awesome!!!
if Cingular wasnt so stupid, they would have jumped on this phone. But of course like every other good phone, cingular doesnt add it. The only problem is MMS isnt really supported, your pictures recieved are cropped to the lowest level. At least the N75 is supposed to be coming.
My sentiments exactly about CS. Yes it will have the manufacturer's warranty because NokiaUsa sells it. Keep in mind that with the manufacturer's warranty the turn around time can be as high as 6 weeks. Having said that, I will continue to buy unbranded phones if the ones I want are not provided by Cingular. Go for it Mike..... That is incorrect, if the settings for MMS are correctly entered into the phone, MMS is fully supported.
Steven - Thanks, nice review. Have fun with your new toy. Yes, "supposed to be" is about right. Current estimates range from this week to May. Theoretically, I'd prefer the N75 since I like flips and it has UMTS, flight mode and a few other nice features. I'll probably come back to Nokia someday, but not yet. SW
You should be really glad Cingular didn't get this phone!! As my friends here know, I am NOT a big fan of what they do to great phones. They are "Destructively greedy lab pigs" No one has EVER reinvented "The Wheel" :speechles
Ok, I'm on the verge of ordering this phone. I have only one standing concern. The 6230 is the first candy bar phone I've owned in a long long time. And my only complaint that I have about the 6230 is that the screen gets all scratched to hell. Now, my guess would be that if I had carried it more in a holster or gotten a protective case for it rather than just carrying it in my pocket, that wouldn't happen. But, when I took a quick look for accessories for the N73, I didn't see much. And if I am going to spend this much on a new phone, I want to make sure I can take good care of it. Have you folks that have this been able to find suitable covers or holsters for the N73?
Scratch all that above.... I just spent a wee bit more time and found there is actually quite a bit out there. Holsters, skins, replacement cases and LCD protectors. I guess I was just being lazy. Hah.
I am glad you found the information. I hope you never need replacement parts but just in case you do this place has parts for almost every phone
Steven2420, This is a nice phone: a Nokia Quad band with 3G band (2100Mhz) for Europe and Japan...it would make a nice world phone, esp for Japan where I go sometimes. A couple of questions: 1. The 3.2 Mp camera with Zeiss auto focus optics looks great. Can you post some examples of real photos? 2. What is the battery life like in practice? This phone has lots of features, are the Nokia life estimates about right? Thanks, vf
Viewfly, Sorry I took so long buddy, been very busy at work. 1. I will post a few photos below 2. The Nokia estimates were conservative, the battery life is a bit better then advertised. The phone is awesome, but my son already jacked me for it. I am using my Treo 750 now. Trust me the phone is awesome!!!
Good Stuff, Stevo, Good Stuff. Congratulations on your Nokia N73, Nokia's N series phones has always been top notch with few complains and many praises.
Unfortunately, I haven't gotten it yet. Which, I've been working all weekend anyway, so, I wouldn't have had time to play with it anyhow. Its scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Maybe I'll have to take Tuesday off! Haha.
These are great pictures Steve. It looks like the camera on this phone does a nice job with picking up all the colors without washing them out like some of the camera phones that I have had. Maybe in a few months when the newness of my V3xx sets in I'll give this Nokia a shot.
Congrats on getting the Nokia N73. Let us know how you like it after you have had time to fully test it.
