Well, just like AnthroMatt, after switching to the 10 Gb AT&T Family Share plan, I picked up an iPhone 5S. I got the Space Grey, 32Gb, unlocked at the Apple Store. Not going to do a review, since others have the 5S and it has been out for over a year now. I'll just comment that it is fast, and that I LOVE the fingerprint unlock! So easy to depress the Home button, and at the same time it unlocks my phone. I made an impression for my right thumb and right index finger. Haven't tried using the fingerprint sensor for iTunes or App purchases yet. I'm keeping my iPhone 5. As before, I used the over-the-air iCloud back up to load my Apps, Data, Photos, etc into the phone. It started loading while in the Apple Store and then at home it finished up. It did a smooth job and it seems more apps are loading my settings (username and password) then i last remember. Some still need that set up by me, apps like Yelp and a couple of others. But more and more it seems that Apps are loading that data into my iCloud back up. Nice phone. Glad that i got it as an in between phone until we see what the iPhone 6 looks like. P.S. I just saw a post today that the next Samsung Galaxy S5 is going to have a fingerprint sensor unlock in the Home key too. Something more of a roll or swipe sensor. Funny, Galaxy S5...iPhone 5S http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1708178
LOL. Good catch. You're correct. I was calculating months from the 5 release, not 5S. My mistake. :speechless I better retrieve my eyeglasses from the refrigerator then! With all the timers, clocks and calendars, you'd think I would know better. But nope.
You're on a good role today, dmapr ! So I realized that sometimes I use my left index finger, so I made imprint of that. I think you are allowed 5 fingerprints on the 5S. So I used 3 so far. Or use a 4 digit passcode (or a more complicated passcode, if you turn off 'simple passcode') After 5 failed fingerprint attempts, you have the enter the passcode. You are also required to enter the password after: a) After restarting your iPhone 5s b)When more than 48 hours have elapsed from the last time you unlocked your iPhone 5s c)To enter the Touch ID & Passcode setting
Some things I learned about the special M7 Chip ( not the main A7 processor chip). Also the fingerprint sensor. I thought the fingerprint was orientation specific. Nope. I tried my finger at 90 and 180 degrees, and it worked! Makes it a lot easier than trying to align my finger in the same direction that I made the impression. Cool! The M7 coprocesor chip I really didn't read up on. I learned now that it has been taking 7 days worth of data on my and my wives phone on its own. So I loaded up some free pedometer and paid nutrition/ exercise apps, and it placed in my steps data from the previous days and a full week from my wife. And i was thinking about getting one of those exercise bands...i guess it not so necessary anymore. This M7 chip figures out when I'm walking, running or even driving, and all at very low power. pretty neat. Apple says the M7 will even changes my map route from walking to driving when I change up. I even found an app, that when you attach your phone in a arm strap, it will evaluate your sleep...snoring, movements and the like. Along with exercise calorie burning. Interesting as I thought that Apple smart watch would do these things, but it seems it is on the 5S already...maybe the watch will just act as a monitor as it communicates with the phone. Much better than a separate watch like Fitbit or JawBone UP where I have to charge another battery. Question, why was Tim Cook wearing a Fitbit then???
I'll add that I really like the fingerprint unlock too. A lot more than I figured I would. I suppose it's something that I didn't need when I didn't have it, but now I suspect I'll need it forever. I'm using the blue Tech21 Impact Mesh case (orange and blue case...wonder why I picked those colors???) and a glas.tr nano slim protector on the screen. I went with the white iPhone this time. Now my iPhone history is white -> black -> white. Hee hee.
Is that a bumper case or does it have a back? That D3O material looks interesting. I redid 2 of my 3 fingerprints last night. They were still working but less consistently. This time I really made sure the sides of my prints were taken as instructed. After that, it works 100% and very fast. It is a very nice feature.
It has a back. Very thin so it adds almost no thickness to the phone. There is a bumper only model, but like to protect the back a bit. And the TPU is transparent enough that you can still see the phone through the back of the case.
I just read up on the bumper version. It has a removable back. Interesting. Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk Pro
I'm a little late here, but congrats on your new 5S Viewfly. It's one of the best iPhones to date and I know you'll enjoy it.
