Hello everyone. I thought that I would share this with you. I woke up this morning and my dad told me to immediately look outside at the preserve. On the bank closest to our house there were two Otters eating a Grass Carp that they caught just a few moments before this. Here are the pictures: Otters Dragging the Carp to the shore: Time for Breakfast: Otters Eating Their Fresh Fish: Also, here is a recent preserve sunset behind my house:
Wow... it must be neat having such fascinating wildlife so close to you! Living in the city usually don't afford that luxury... the most unsual animal I have spotted in Tallahassee were some raccoons and/or possums. Last year, a black bear was wandering through downtown, though.
It is neat. Our ecotour company that my family and I own puts us outdoors all the time while on our tours and lets us enjoy nature on a daily basis. I love it. Cities are nice to visit but would be too crowded for me.
Great stuff, Erik. Florida truly is a beautiful state. You are lucky to have such a beautiful nature preserve on your property.
Thanks Mike. Yes Florida is beautiful especially the weather since I am used to the warm weather after living down here with my family for 15 years as of late July 2009. The preserve is actually on the west edge of my neighborhood and divides my neighborhood with our sister neighborhood which is on the other side of the lake (to our west). There are roughly 6 houses in our neighborhood that border the lake with our house being smack dab in the middle which allows us to get the best view.
Yes it is... I didn't know how ecologically diverse this state is until I came here and didn't leave:lmao:I just thought it was only about the beaches, but after visiting most of northern Florida, Titusville and Ocala, my eyes have been opened. I have never visited the southern tip of the state, but I'd like to some day.
You definitely need to Quint101. I prefer the west coast since it is not as busy as Miami, Fort Lauderdale, etc.
I think this is why I like Tallahassee. It's quite sedate when compared to my hometown, Atlanta. I hated it at first, but I was only 18 when I came here... the place had definitely grown on me. Tallahassee is not too small. Plus the Gulf is only a half hour (if that) from town
I've been lucky enough to have driven the most of the entire state routes from Miami to Pensacola (though I've never been to Jacksonville). I cannot get over how different South Florida is from Northern Florida and even Central Florida. All of it is beautiful. Boy do you have the trees in Tallahassee, though. Were it not for the freeway signs, I'd never have known I was going through the capital.
Tallahassee is easy to miss if you are asleep at the wheel. Most of the city is off I-10 and 2 of the 5 exits designated for the city has signs of life LOL The trees are plentiful and the "tree huggers" try to keep it that way in these parts. Plus, outside of town, it is very rural anyway...
