Unfortunately there is no such setting on the Vu to do this. Your best bet is to call customer service and ask them to put a data block on your line (as I've not had AT&T since March 2009, I'm assuming they haven't discontinued the full data block, unlike Verizon...)

Welcome to Wireless Advisor, by the way!

For reference, here is the Vu user guide in PDF:

It would be nice if LG's menu for their GSM phones had an option to secure access to the web and other things you'd like to guard against. Sadly they don't. Some phone makers have had this as a feature in their menus, but I haven't seen it in years.

My mom often hit the internet button by mistake. It never totaled more than $1.00/mo but I password protected the browser on her phone (Moto V3xx). Now she can enter the password if she really needs the internet, or she can hit cancel with no charges.

The rate was $0.01/kb. It usually cost about $0.50/mo for her accidental pressing the button until the locked the browser. Sorry, I don't know how to do it on an LG though.

Motorola phones were the ones I remember that could security password a number of functions, including web access.

One other thing, because the Vu is a touch-screen phone, the main screen has icons at the bottom to enter into the menu system. So there isn't a direct-to-the-web button on the main screen. Since there isn't a way to lock out the web option, just make sure you don't select the menu icon circled in red below in the attached image. That icon opens up access to all of the Internet-related options.

Also, only if you specifically select one of the options within this menu could you incur data charges. So there isn't an automatic accidental way of accessing data on the phone.

where that red circle is in this pic, is the tv icon on my phone,
which does't matter, you have to have 3g for the the to work,
    there is no 3g here.

"quote" Also, only if you specifically select one of the options within this menu could you incur data charges. So there isn't an automatic accidental way of accessing data on the phone.

    ok, thanks for that info.

Just realized you have the CU920, not the CU 915, which is why the menu icons are different. I forgot LG updated the phone last year. And as such, they replaced that other icon with the one that says "TV". Avoid going into this menu and you will not accidentally access any web options. This is where they are all located.

Also, make sure you don't have the Shortcut menu active on your home screen. This option provides 8 items for quick access. I believe these are preset and can't be modified. Several of these options will cause data use if accessed.

Here's a link to the LG Vu CU920 site. You can download the correct user guide for your phone, as the one I provided in an older post is not for the version of the phone you have. This is a large PDF file (about 24MB), which is too large for me to post here.

Another thing you can try doing if you are worried about accidentally accessing data from the menu options, although I'm not familiar with LG's - on my at&t branded SE I was able to create a "fake" data access point with erroneous (or virtually empty) entries in the various fields and then set it as my default MediaNet (internet) access point. If I accidentally press the MediaNet key while this data access point is assigned, no connection is made; and if I want to access data I just change the connection point back to my "MediaNet" settings group.

I can't speak to what it will impact on an LG, but on my at&t branded SE W580i, reassigning the connection point for internet access only makes the MediaNet "button" on the front of the phone and menu option non-functional.

MMS and the e-mail application still work just fine, so it has been a good solution for me - the MediaNet button is very easy to accidentally press on the W580i.
