If you bought it from Cingular it is either a regular V3 or it is a V3i. The V3m is a CDMA model and Cingular doesn't use them. I'm guessing it is a regular V3. Check on the white label under the battery. It will say what model it is.

The V3i has an integrated music player and more memory.

The regular V3 only comes with about 5 megs free memory for extra games, ringtones & pictures. If you install anything or use the camera you probably won't be able to fit an mp3 on the phone. Even after you do, the speaker on the regular V3 really doesn't have the ability to nicely reproduce music in any quality that you would want to listen to for more than a minute.

You need to buy a copy of Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools (MPT). This software will allow you to upload ringtones & pictures to your phone. You can usually buy MPT relatively cheap on Ebay.

You got good advice from Jay. Spend 15 bucks on MPT and you will have good software that you can use to download/upload audio/video files, sync/backup your phone book, etc.

Thanks. Yes, there are ways of doing it for free, but you really have to know what you're doing or otherwise you can't use the files as ringtones, or worse yet all of your ringtones will stop working. I personally use MPT for moving ringtones, even though I know other ways, because it is the easiest and most foolproof.

vincent123, if you already have data-cables for your phone, you can get BitPim for FREE off of the Internet and use it to ul/dl items to your phone.
Look at the Motorola RAZR 'sticky' and search on BitPim for some guidance.

I've never used that piece of software. Is it "idiot proofed"? I know MPT doesn't let you screw up your phone by deleting critical files. Does this have the same protections?

    Thanks, Jay

It will not let you delete a lot of files from the phone.

Here is a file on how to install BitPim with screenshots. (right-click, save-as)

BitPim will still work on it. Just choose V3 inplace of the V3cm.
