    Hello,

This is my first post here and I've spent some time trying to find the answer to my question however I am unable to locate one..

I am currently a very happy Alltel customer and fretting the upcoming takeover by Verizon Wireless. What I would like to know is whether anyone compiled a list of carriers and which features of Motorola Phone Tools work or won't work with each carrier..

Currently Alltel doesn't disable anything. All MPT features work. I understand Verizon has disabled alot of useful functionality with MPT so I'm interested in finding an alternate carrier that doesn't block MPT features and will switch carriers when my Razr V3 dies and I have to buy another phone. I am prepared to switch carriers when that time comes due to Verizon's policies with regard to MPT features and want to do some preliminary research on plans with these carriers..

Anyone know what works and doesn't work in MPT for the following carriers?

    AT&T
    Sprint
    T Mobile

So there are no AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile customers up here who use Motorola Phone tools and know what MPT software features are disabled by their respective carriers?

FWIW - I don't really use MPT, but I don't recall ever seeing anyone say that certain features of it were blocked by at&t; as you mention, I have seen that comment made re: some of the other carriers.

AFAIK AT&T & TMO do not restrict any of their features available through MPT. That is something that CDMA carriers do though.

    Bryan, welcome to WA.....

just go with a GSM carrier/provider and you'll be ok with MPT and it's capabilities.

You must have had your phone for a while cause as of feb 08 Alltel started blocking the features of the phone. They only started blocking things once the Verizon buy out was legit. Although it is not complete at this time they are already making changes and blocking features is one issue. You can no longer get free ringtones via bluetooth or free sites. Most phones they have people have been able to get around this problem however with the z6m rkr it seems no one has been able to get the ringtones to work. Openwave is even blocked from going to the sites and directly downloading to your phone. Good Luck!!! where I live there isn't much of a choice in carriers if you want signal in most area's.

Again which is why i suggested to use a GSM carrier as opposed to CDMA.

A little late getting back to this thread. Just wanted to thank everyone for the replies and info..

If Verizon continues this practice of blocking these MPT features then they will certainly lose a customer once my RAZR dies.

As much as I despise AT&T, or rather the former BellSouth customer service that I've been so unfortunate to have to deal with in the past, I will likely go with them for service, or T-Mobile which is now available in NC. Both are GSM I believe..

    Thanks again...

I'm not aware that Sprint has ever blocked anything like Verizon does, but then again, I rarely use MPT.
