Anyone have verizon and live in the Tampa area? Im moving there just wondering who has the best wireless company in the bay area? I want my phone to work when i live there.....
My sister lives in Clearwater, my parents in Sarasota and has Verizon and states the coverage is very good.
I think all carriers are good in Tampa, since it's flat and a major destination. I had no problems with Verizon the times I have been there.
From what I have heard ALLTEL is excellent in the Tampa Bay area. They have a 800 Mhz Digital/Analog Network in that area which might provide you with a bit better indoor coverage then Verizon Wireless since they are PCS in that area. I've heard Verizon is good too though. Either way I don't think you can go wrong with Verizon Wireless or ALLTEL in the Tampa area.
Should Verizon PCS coverage fail, you'll fall back to Alltel...then Sprint PCS...then AT&T Wireless analog. Tampa should be quite covered by VZW.
In our user polls at Wireless-Florida.com Verizon gets the highest marks for connectivity and customer service. Alltel also gets very high grades. And, Welcome To Florida !
ALLTEL is the old GTE Mobilnet system. Verizon is the old PrimeCo system. When GTE and BellAtlantic Merged they had to give up one of their systems and the GTE Mobilnet went to ALLTEL. They then renamed PrimeCo to Verizon. Both have improved and expanded each system since then, and both are big in the Tampa Bay Area. T-Mobile, AT&T and Cingular also have great networks here. I would say Sprint is the weakest of the carriers here, but they have also improved the past year.
Overcapacity is Sprint's biggest problem in Tampa. Way too many fast busy signals. Pretty much everyone else is fine...Cingular's only drawback is the lack of GSM although that should change soon.
