Hey guys, i just got a Motorola W315. Can i put my own pictures an ringtones from my computer on my phone? If so, how? I already tried plugging in my phone to the computer and it asked me to put in a CD to install the software, the phone didnt come with a CD. Is it suppose to? Someone help me. I'm so lost.
actoralexis, welcome to WA. you will need drivers and software like Mobile Phone Tools to get your PC to see your device.
I tried that with an Alltel W315 and MPT couldn't recognize it. I guess I probably need to get an upgrade for it, eh?
MPT won't work for this model phone. But, I HAVE been able to use BitPim to upload wallpaper and ringtones. Here's how to do it: Downloading Ringtones and Wallpaper on W315 1.) Download BitPim and XVI32 hex editor (freeware) 2.) Here is the hard part. Using BitPim I setup the phone as Other CDMA Phone I began poking around the filesystem. Under /snd there is a file named "__list__". I saved it to the harddrive, made a backup copy for the incase, & then opened it up in XVI32 hex editor. In XVI32 under the Tools|Option Menu, in the appearance tab I changed "Number of columns" to 36 to make things easier to read. I also enabled "Data inspector" under the Tools Menu. The first byte in my file was "27" (integer value of 39 looking at the "Data inspector" window) followed by 35 bytes of "00" values. This "27" value must be editted incrementing up with each new ringtone I've uploaded. Then as I scrolled down the format looks semi straitforward. Example:First 25 bytes of the second line 1F 00 80 01 00 00 00 41 6C 70 68 61 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ..|..........................|Filename.......| Long story short, to add an mp3 ring tone(max 110kb), I renamed the file with ".mid" (may not be necessary?), uploaded it to the /brew/shared/ringer directory on my phone. Then I editted the first byte in the "__list__" file to "28" (integer value of "39" +1). I scrolled down the in the XVI32 window until the last file was listed and entered the following: 28 00 00 36 10 10 00 69 72 72 65 70 6C 61 63 65 61 62 6C 65 2E 6D 69 64 ...|.........................|Filename............ .............................................| I then saved the "__list__" file, uploaded it to the phone, rebooted the phone and success. I then added another repeating the above steps. Renamed the mp3 to a .mid extension, upload to the /brew/shared/ringer directory on the phone, hex edited the first byte of the "__list__" file encremented by 1 ("29" integer value 41), scrolled down the file to the first empty 36 bytes, entered the following & rebooted the phone: 29 00 00 36 10 10 00 35 30 43 6E 74 53 68 61 6B 44 61 74 41 2E 6D 69 64 ....|Same as last time|Filename..................................... .....................| So far Ive only tested it with 3 tones so if anything goes awry be warned. Also I have tried to point out that I incremented by the integer values (ie. 41,42,43. Easiest way to do this is select the byte to be editted, make note of its integer value in the Data inspector window, then click Tools|Encode Number..., be sure to check the "Overwrite at current address" & "Shortint" radio buttons, then enter the Number and click ok. ie 43 becomes 2B) 3.) Here is another way that I use for .mid tones first to into your music gallary and hit up once, you should be at an option to create a ringtone, just hit abc or something for the ringtone, and name it what you plan on naming the uploaded ringtone. then d/l the __list__ file in bitpim and open with the hex editor, do the "36 colums" thing cuz it does help out... on now the easier part. find the line with the name you created, leave the first byte alone (should be the integer already created), and the second byte should be 00, not the third and fourth should be changed to "80 06", then at the end of the file name change it to .mid instead of "imy", MAKE SURE IT'S SPELLED THE SAME, on mine it was case sensitive. now, upload the the __list__ to /snd upload the mid to /snd/pre and delete the "imy" file from /snd/user and finally for wallpaper which is much, much easier I uploaded wallpapers to the /brew/shared directory on the phone and rebooted. Simple as that. The phone refreshes a "__brewlist__" file on the phone in the /pic directory automatically. So far I have tried a jpg, png, and a bmp Hope this helps credits to the guys on Howard forums, hopefully someone can come up with an easier way,but as I type I have new ringtones and wallpaper on my phone and they said it couldnt be done
BitPim refuses to recognize the phone. I am using a motorola W315 with Verizon Wireless, if it makes any difference.
Sorry I can not but my problem is that my daughter-in-law out of dpite entere a security code and I can't unlock the doumb thing. Took it to MetroPcs and they say they can't either. CAN ANTONE HELPMEy
