Unfortunately, it is not above Verizon to take out the T-Flash capabilities of the V710 . I sell Verizon phones and our Verizon reps actually make extra bonuses on how many data packages ( picture paks, text paks ,etc) we sell. I'm hoping, like the rest of you, that they keep the memory card port active. Else, the phone will not sell to well and I won't want it either :browani: . It would seem the phones should be out most likely early to mid July. Though I haven't heard a date or a price yet either. Our rep is being trained on the phone next week I think. They usually receive training on new popular phones a week or 2 before it comes out. Also, we have received memos about getting the phones soon. Hopefully, this is good information.
If they limit this phone's BlutTooth or T-Flash capabilities in any way, all in the hopes to make additional money thru GIN services.....I am gone brother, I will pass on the phone and go GSM.
hacking? if VZW does decide to be an ___ and cripple the bluetooth and storage, is it possible for people creat a hack for it to disable the cripple? Also Bono, what was the reason? Im curios too, thanks!
Re: hacking? If the features are disabled, I'm sure some resourceful individual will come out with a hack for it. Just as long as they aren't removed completely. I just came across a site that explains how to install linux on the xbox. Pretty interesting stuff.
I am with you on this too. Why not go with the MPX? (Link to the Hofo Forum post) It looks like a solid phone with great options including wifi, a standard OS, mp3 playback, 1.3 mp cam, unregulated SD slot. If I have to buy a crippled phone from Verizon, I want to buy one without the camera or a memory slot. These features add to the cost of the phone, and will just cost me every time I want to use them. After Cingular and ATTWS merge will the gsm coverage be almost good as or better than VZW's coverage?
CWick, No need for dispair quite yet. Today in Pittsburgh, Verizon held a "Technology Expo" for indirect agents from my area. This is the 2nd year they've done this, purpose being to introduce us to the new stuff on the way. We had a Motorola representative there who did a presentation which was LARGELY about the V710. A couple encouraging things: 1) I got to the opportunity to toy with a live 710 for about 5 minutes...I must say it was hard to put it down. This is a sweet phone. I take that back...the sweetest phone I've ever seen. The camera quality from the picture that I took, was pretty good...even in low lighting. In toggling through the some of the menus, the video & camera menus in particular, there was to me a noticeable "lag" as the phone switches functions...easily fixable. The Moto rep demonstrated the 710's bluetooth...this is an awesome advancement! The rep boasted about how he hasn't really had to use the phone's keypad much in the last couple months because you can tell the phone what to do and it does it via the bluetooth headset...very cool. The MP3 playback was also phenomenal. 2) A significant portion of this presentation dealt with what set this phone apart from most other camera/video phones...the transflash capability. He had breakdowns on how much video/pictures could be stored on various cards...the 256mb in particular. I thought he said the card was going to sell for around $80. 3) In discussing the phone's bluetooth, the Moto rep DID SAY quite emphatically that you would be able to send pictures to your printer via the bluetooth and also that MP3s would be able to be brought onto the phone via transflash...there's some type of SD adapter for the transflash. 4) We pressed him for a release date...all we say was "sometime after July 7th...very shortly." As far as price...he said, "$250...I hope." With all the rumors flying around the forum that I've read for the last few weeks, thought we could all enjoy some good news on this awesome phone...IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!
Smokey - when you mention MP3s and the TransFlash card, are you talking about full MP3 songs, or MP3 ringers?
Critic, The moto rep said that actual songs could be downloaded. The song he played went on for a good minute before he stopped it. He didn't say anything at all about ringers, but I don't see why not.
This guy was emphasizing the 710's ability to double as an MP3 PLAYER. He did mention too that there would be some type of headset sold for users to enjoy the MP3 feature with. They seem to be banking not only on HUGE sales of the phone itself, but also on the accessories that will be spawned from this little miracle.
That MPX looks awesome. As far as the GSM coverage I don't think it will be long before the coverage beats Verizon.
Hey Smokey, Did he say anythign else about the bluetooth capabilities? Im a mac user who uses my Z600 continuely connected to my computer for sending text messaegs, syncing contacts and even getting files off, so this area of the phone is what Im most curious about, thanks!
A lot of online rumors are flying about the V710 release date. The latest software was delivered to Verizon on Thursday. Approval could come at any time (if not already). There is a warehouse full of V710's somewhere. Once this software gets approved, they will have to flash the final software onto the phone and then send it to your local store. So in theory the phone could be on the store shelf by the end of next week. More than likely it will be released the week after.
i dont know how much this interests people but ima post it anyway... i did a search on google for v710 pics and this site came up from some person webpage with pictures taken with the v710. as the guy says at the top of the page: "Most pictures taken with my Motorola V710, but I also have an LG VX6000 which I sometimes take pics with (When I want better quality)." heres the link. as you can see some of the pictures show him at work, at some verizon office. others (like 2 on the linked page) show the guy looking in the mirror with the v710 http://rumbumbida.textamerica.com/?page=4 i hope this wasnt posted already.....if so ill feel like an update: http://rumbumbida.textamerica.com/?r=866644 go there too (and make sure to read the comments)
I emailed motorola a little while ago - they didnt want to give me a definite date, all they said was that the V710 will be released "sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2004"
Cash269: I wouldn't necessarilly put a lot of faith in the v710-originated photos that are out on the web right now. The units that have made it into peoples hands (at least, to my understanding) are largely engineering samples and are almost certainly not running the finalized firmware. It's entirely possible that Moto could tweak the camera settings prior to the actual launch.
yea i know....if you read one of the commnents the guy actually says that they are planning to update the software before the phones release
I was just in my local VZW store asking about the VX7000. They actually have it in but are not able to sell it yet in PHX until July 1. I have been dealing with the same lady for 3 years and all the information she has ever given me has been pretty right on. She nailed the PTT when I asked. Anyway, she stated that the v710 was at least a month away from release. Let's just cross our fingers....
Hey Bono, do you know if the V710 will be a tri-mode phone for sure when it comes out? I know phonescoop is reporting that it will be but thought I would check with someone with some first hand knowledge.
Well I do not know for sure, but the Motorola site, phone scoop, and the ebay auction for it all say it is going to be a tri-mode phone. I very much doubt Verizon is going to alter the hardware. Also, the only Motorola phones that I have ever sold that were digital only were the C333 and the C343. Motorola seems to like their tri-mode phones. If i had to venture an educated guess, it would be yes. :deadhorse: I just like the dead horse smilie lol
wow, i come in here to check on the latest, is it just me or does it seem like we been waiting for the v710 for years now....
It sure seems that way, but really it's only been a few months since it was announced. Maybe it's just we've all been waiting such a long time for a CDMA phone like this from Moto? Speaking of announcements, wasn't there supposed to be an announcement regarding some super-secret GSM model by the end of this month?
Hi - I am new to this site and just registered because a Verizon rep told me to hold off on my 'new every 2' due to the release of this 710 phenomenon. He told me about the high anticipation and the sites dedicated to its discussion, and I didn't quite believe it. That was a few weeks ago, and he echoed the same info you guys have regarding delays in release date. I currently have a V60 that is on life support. Just getting it to charge is a negotiation between me and the phone. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you all for your information - I will hang in there as long as possible. I also had a question regarding any future versions of the V60. I could have sworn I saw an upcoming color version on the Motorola site that was being promoted along with the 710. Or is it your humble opinion that I should make the switch to the 710? The last thing I want is phone envy. It just seems like the last few posts were down on the 710 technology being altered before release and the phone no longer being worth it. Thanks again for the info
I think that I saw a v60is on VZW's site the other day. I just tried to look again and they are "upgrading their website" Maybe its the push for video messaging that will launch the Moto v710 and LGvx7000. :browani:
im getting the 710 myself i am so done with the vx6000. talk about poor batt life 1.5 days max and this is the 3rd phone. no i dont use it alot. the phone was fine for a year now all the sudden they are all crappin out. plus i need a better megapixel camera im so sick of this cheezy camera.....
That was the V60v, which is being released only to Sprint. I think the V60 series is pretty much done on VZW...there was supposed to be a color "V65" for VZW with push-to-talk and a color screen, but I'm not sure we'll actually see that one, unless VZW renews their PTT push. After the V710 and V810, the next Motorolas are likely the V260 and V265 - info here.
