The V710 is capable of being used as a modem, but not initiating voice calls via your PDA. When used as a modem, currently the only ways to dial up are National Access (via #777) or your own dialup number (i.e., Earthlink) via circuit-switched data connection. The init string(s) needed to force the phone into circuit switched mode for a call to #777 (i.e., qnc) have not been discovered yet. I believe they will be found when a wider audience gets hold of this phone, because the phone *is* capable of making circuit switched data calls. Bluetooth is not only not as crippled as people think (some people can't even get their headsets working because they don't read the manuals on how to pair the two devices), there are rumors flying around that Motorola plans to issue a firmware update that will enable synchronization over Bluetooth with Mobile Phone Tools 2.0.
Well I just recieved an email from Shop Motorla tha the V710 is available NOW at select radio shack stores and Verizon Wireless online... However VZW's site has nothing....and the link it takes you to doesn't work. Somebody at Motorla oopsed I think. http://messagemoto.com/cgi-bin3/DM/y/hgxB0LQqVd0KI60BJ5b0A4 LOL, now it says Service Unavailable when you click that link. I bet Verizon Wireless is pissed to say the least.
Just recieved the same email and I also experienced the same results. Either it is like you said, somebody screwed up or this was the plan but for some reason, its not working right. Either way, it one big tease.
I got the e-mail and it worked, and it had the link to register it on it. However after frantically filling out the form, it said there was an error and it wont complete the registration. So there is definatly something fishy going on.
I got my v710 last night, really good phone. Was waiting on something to replace my v60i and this is definately the one. On the Registration link, I just got off the phone with Motorola and apparently the email was an error and was not supposed to be sent until tomorrow. They shut down all the servers which accounts for the multiple errors (500 Int. Server error, DB connect errors, etc) during the stages of the form. That error is gonna be a PR nightmare I think. anyways, motorola said the links should all work tomorrow.
I just registered via the web site and received a confirmation e-mail message that my registration was received.
I just also registered sucessfully. I am sure we will be among the 1st 710. I had been clicking send for the last hour and it just worked, so they must of just fixed whatever problem that they had.
The Registration site is up...hotmail, and google e-mail accounts cause problems because they filter all the webpages found through links in the e-mail (check the url ---EVERYTHING goes through hotmail). This results in the spoofed IP address error message. Good Luck!
Here's an update on my V710 bluetooth. The bottom line is Motorola/Verizon are going to update the software within the next two weeks according to Ian when I called the motorola phone number in the below e-mail: I talked with Engineering and they contacted Motorola. Apparently there is an issue with the V710 and Bluetooth. Motorola suggested you contact them at 1-800-331-6456 because it is a problem with the phone and not the software. Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. Jesika BVRP Software USA Inc. PhoneTools Support Engineer Fax: 1-303-450-1154 *******@bvrpusa.com <--don't want her spammed SUPPORT: 1-720-330-1454. Our hours are: Monday-Friday 9:00am-9:00pm MST So there you have it...it's a great phone, but there are some bugs to be worked out. Headset work fine. I tried my sister-in-laws headset (HS-810) last night. I have to say I like the HS-820 better. It's lighter and smaller. Blinking blue light isn't as obnoxious. I just registerd at 12:14 pacific time...can't complain if I get a free HS-810!!! She has the motorola V600 and it works fine with my moto phone tools setup (D-link bluetooth adaptor). She has two additional bluetooth services available on hers though: OBEX File Transfer and OBEX Object Push. Hopefully the software update will add these. I used the software to transfer pics and songs to her phone (V600). It takes about 10 min for a 40kbps mp3 (about 1 meg) to transfer. I'm hoping the V710 will be faster. I'm waiting on my 128MB transflash card from Amazon ($33 shipped last Monday). That should be faster. Lower kbps songs don't work (says it's corrupt). Right around 40 is the limit. V710 may be different when they finally get it working.
Now it appears you can order the phone online at www.vzwshop.com/motorola . I wonder when they will start shipping the phones to customers. Edit, whoops typo. Update, I was able to get through to the point of confirming the plans/phones options when I cancelled out.
The official release date is the 11th for Verizon ... i just called up customer service and had them order one for me ... they said they can preorder and have it charged to my account but they don't really have the phone till the 11th ... unactivated is $419.99 at verizon stores for sure ... cheaper than radioshack even with an employee discount ... other wise they are the same price if you neglect the NE2
Meh, then there's no reason for me to order it. Back to plan "A" then. I'll be picking it up at the store on the 13th.
I was able to register my 710 successfully. I hope I was one of the first 710 I got a confirmation email, it said they will contact me is 2-4?????
I forgot to mention that I was told I should get the $70 mail-in even though I'm not signing any sort of agreement to extend my contract. So the $70 mail-in has to be from motorola not verizon.
I can not get MPT to recognize my v710. MPT is updated to 2.21e this is the latest they have, I think the problem is with the driver, is there any way someone can email me the .inf file for the v710 at aburya@yahoo.com ? XP displays the yellow "?" in device manager, it says v710 though !
I went to Radio Shack today and just asked if the guy had a v710 demo I could play around with. He had one already out of the box that some guy was coming down to purchase in an hour or so. The guy knew what I was talking about though and he seemed almost more excited about it than I was. I must say my first impression was very good. I didn't get a long time to play around with it, but the screen and look of the menus I thought was very, very pretty, and I found the phone size to be just about perfect, and I could swear it felt even lighter than the v60, but I haven't used it in a while so I could be crazy. Anyway, I told the guy how I couldn't buy it from him because of the NE2. The guy said that the other guy that bought the first phone did get the NE2 credit, but it was a mail in rebate he had to send in to verizon. Then he showed me the Ad and noticed it said the 70 mail in rebate was for "new customers" but he called in to someone and confirmed that as a return customer, I could in fact get the rebate. So anyway, he said if I wanted he could steal a v710 from one of the other managers at his next meeting and give it to me, bu ___'d be the sample that they already took out of the box. I doubt that'd really be a bad thing since it's so new but assuming the 11th is correct, it is less than a week 'till the phone comes out. Seeing the phone in real life makes me want it so much more, but I keep feeling like I should wait. I guess Doom 3 can tide me over 'till next wednesday... *sighs*
Oh yea for all those waiting for the NE2 make sure your not on a family share plan because I just remembered in most cases Verizon will not give the $100 credit on add-on lines because you have to be on a $39.99 plan or higher and an add-on line is $20 ... now i'm not saying they may not be able to work around it in some cases ... but guess we'll see
(OK, I'll try this question again. The first try got lost in the infamous "Vibrate/Ring debate".) Another V710 operational question for you lucky few out there: I've been using a Startac for the longest time and am quite used to its operation. I've been on the hunt for anewer phone (and now, obviously, waiting for the V710) however, I've noticed on a lot of "newer" phones that you are unable to hear yourself talk (meaning, what the mic picks up isn't transfered to the earpiece). I know it seems trivial but I automatically know when a line is open when the earpiece kicks in and I can hear myself breathe. So, the question is: can you hear yourself on the V710 or is the sound as 'dead' as all of the other phones I've tested lately? Thanks alot for any info.
