Verizon Stores tend to treat customers who bought their phone from them slightly better if you have a problem. With that said, if you have a problem, b;tching gets you everywhere regardless of where you bought your phone. RS offers same price however some independent dealers (VZW dealers are less common) offer better prices. I got a sweet deal on my v60 back for like $150 less than VZW was selling it.

You two seem to be the most knowledgable and respected in these forums, or any forum for that matter. What is your take on all of this recent frenzy of "RS is getting it first. No, VZW has to have it first. No, you can order @ RS, but it's full retail, plus $80 bucks shipping, and your order might get cancelled anyway. No way, VZW has to have it first or you can't activate." We must be getting closer, but this is crazy. Half of us on these forums seem to know more than most of our local stores. And yes, I'm not afraid to admit that I'm completely obsessed at this point. I think that just might be the point.

I definitely agree with this, when my phone developed a
crack around the hinge after 2 months RS (where I got it from) said they would have to send it back for repairs and could neither replace it nor give me a temporary replacement. That answer not being acceptable I walked 2 stores doen in the same mall to the Verizon store and they looked up my number, replaced my phone, transfereed my contact list, AND apologised profusely for not being able to transfer the pictures or the custom ring tones.

My next phone (V710) will definitely be from the Verizon store and not RS.

I noticed earlier someone mentioned using the v710 with a UX-50. I bought the UX-50 months ago to use it wirelessly via bluetooth and tried using an T608 and transferred it to Verizon. It was a disaster, i could never get it to work with the Bluetooth. Does any one know whether ill be able to use the V710 with the ux-50 to go online and how fast and secure the connection will be?

Well, thought I was going to get my V710 today. How the cookie crumbles!

Went by Monday afternoon as the SKU was showing up in their computer. The manager called the warehouse and said they were in stock. I went ahead and pre-purchased one for the $519 as well as a 128Mb Transflash card. They were supposed to release the phone yesterday, ship it Fedex to the store, and I could pick it up today.

Well, just got a call. Not from the Radio Shack store, but from the Orders Center. They just informed me that the phone is now NOT IN STOCK with no release date. I told them to cancel both orders and refund me.

From the previous post showing that the phone is now not showing up in the computers, SOMETHING HAPPENED. Either they were lying all along, were instructed by Verizon to not offer them, or something else.

I just cancelled my contract with AT&T Wireless, effective next week. Looks like I'll be without a cell phone until then as I've decided to still go with Verizon and wait for the V710.

Anyone heard anything else on this?

Yup, something's happened. I visited the same page yesterday and all 3 availabilities were YES/YES/YES, not NO/NO/NO. And with them hiding the price, looks like it'll be a while b4 Radio Shack gets them. Appears to be the same with the Verizon store. Just got off the phone with one of their sales guys. Answer: Late August. :( :( :(

That may have been me because I've mentioned that I'd like to use the V710 with my UX50. I'm currently able to pair my Sony Ericsson T61c (Verizon branded) with DBA-10 Bluetooth adapter with my UX50 to surf the web on Verizon's 1xRTT network. I'm getting speeds between 40 Kbps and 60 Kbps, sometimes faster. 1xRTT is supposed to support speeds up to 144 Kbps but you don't get that. The screen of my T61c displays the speed when I'm connected and I've seen it go above 100 Kpbs a few times. In order to get it to work with your phone, you have to setup the Connection and Network profiles on the UX50.

Here's a thread with the information on how to setup your UX50 to pair with a Verizon CDMA phone. Obviously the Sony Ericsson T61c stuff won't be exactly the same as your T608 but you can probably figure it out.

    A. VZW discovered that RS would be selling the phone early and threatened to drop them as a 3rd party reseller.

    B. RS was BS-ing everybody all along.

    C. R&D came across additional software issues.

Feel free to choose or add.

I talked with someone at Verizon this morning and he stated that he had received an email for training on the v710 and said it "should be out in a couple of days". He would not give a date. At the same time, RS still had them listed as available in store. I don't know if it was after that that the poopoo hit the fan or what. My local verizon store said they had heard rumors of mid-August and that they would only know a few days ahead of time. This was from the inventory guy. He said I could call back Friday around 11pm and he would check his real-time inventory system and see if there were any on the list to be received next Wednsday. He said they never know until it shows up on the order list when they are getting what. I found it odd that Radio Shack would have been able to sell them first. It's bad business from Verizon's standpoint. I hope they aren't delayed long. This just seems to be an endless bad drama.

RS probably saw what kind of "frenzy" was developing. Out of my time with the company I've never seen wireless handsets ordered via direct 2u, at least successfully. When I read that people were trying to get them this way I was more than skeptical. Think about it logically, why would RS start selling these phones on the web/telephone before they hit stores? With the way this has spread like wildfire, they'd be foolish to keep it up...none of the stores would have any because the warehouses would sell out very quickly if this happened all over the country, which it is. My advice would be to wait until it PHYSICALLY arrives in the stores...I go with my original information...in stores by August 5th. As far as the speculation that Verizon is holding RS up with starting to sell this phone, I doubt that's the case. RS has released phones before Verizon corporate stores in the past. Guys, I want this phone as much as the next person, but paying $600 for it just to be the first one to have it? Crazzzzy! We've waited this long, what's a few more weeks?

In my case, my monthly bill date was coming up and decided not to give AT&T Wireless any more $$$ for the lousy service they provide and the sorry equipment they sell. That's why I was willing to part with the $519 until I got the phone, then get a refund to get back to the $319 and then the $70 mail-in to get it back to $249.99.

I hope your August 5th estimate holds, as that's around the time I'll be without a cell phone. We'll keep our fingers crossed. Thanks.

RS will be selling them first. This was a known fact in small circles at the end of last week. If this delay in RS getting them to the people who really want them is due to more of Verizon dragging its feet with their own release date, that's a real shame. In comparison with some of the handset offerings out currently & coming soon by other providers you'd think that Verizon would return fire with the 710 quickly and decisively. Hope this phone is really worth the wait.

I don't blame you wanting to ditch AT&T. I would do the same thing. As of last Friday, this was the actual date RS was supposed to get it. This information came from one of the ****iest Verizon reps I've ever seen. I took pleasure in taunting him everytime I saw him about where his "710 Messiah" was at? He initially got very upset and as the weeks went by, anger turned to disgust. Then on last Friday, he came in laughing at me & I knew what he was going to tell me: that the mighty 710 was coming. This guy wasn't passing me B.S. If you're in the field, one thing you can count on is Verizon indirect reps & corporate reps butting heads on a regular basis. He was very proud that his channel would have the phone for sale before the corporate channel. So I have no reason to believe his info isn't credible. We'll see in a week.

If RS is supposed to be selling them first, how long before Verizon sells them is RS going to sell them? If they are independent of Verizon as to when they sell the phone and they are getting them first, why would Verizon dragging their feet have anything to do with why RS all of a sudden yanked the phone?

No one is requiring your participation. Maybe you don't care about the phone but others do. I personally don't like to have use of all the options in my car that I paid a lot of money for. I have a Bluetooth capable car. I personally would rather be able to use my Bluetooth system instead of trying to dig into my purse while driving when the phone rings. If I remember, I can take the phone out of my purse before I start to drive but I don't always remember. It's much easier to leave it where it is an hit a simple button on my steering wheel. That way, I can concentrate on driving. I had an Ericsson T616 but got cruddy reception on Cingular. I dropped Cingular before my contract was over and sold the phone because the V710 was supposed to be out in a matter of weeks. I already had an account with Verizon so I hooked my husband's old phone up to my old Verizon number and that's where I stand today. You may already have a nice phone that works like you want. I have an old Nokia 3285 that says "Badger Badger Badger Badger Badger" on the screen when I turn it on because I don't know how to use Nokias and haven't asked my husband to get rid of it.

I think if you don't care when the phone comes out then you are on the wrong thread, just remember the name of the thread is V710 release date. The V710 was supposed to come out weeks ago and it has many advance features that we have been waiting for, so it is important to a lot of people when the phone is released.

In order for me to answer your first question, I would have to know when Verizon would be releasing the phone for sale, which I or anybody else in this forum doesn't know for certain. The only thing as far as availability I'm aware of is on the RS side which I discussed in an earlier post, which if you're interested in you should consider taking the time to go back and research. Let me clarify on your second question. The fact that the phone was available now isn't on the website is puzzling. To be honest, it was stupid to even put it on the site until it was available in stores. As far as the comment about Verizon dragging it's feet, I was referring to the fact that they've wasted all this time , now finally, months behind schedule they're stocking up their inventory (a very smart move...finally). RS has the phones, they've had them for roughly a week. To be honest, I think posting the availability on the web was a mistake, some webby messed up. The people that take the orders for the products only do what their computer says, hence order based on availability. As I said previously, all this "pre-order madness" didn't seem right based on the date I was given. :browani:
