Someone can correct me if I'm mistaken, but I bet they will activate right now on the network without any difficulty.
No, you are most likely right. I mean, as long as it has verizon software on it, and its set to be a cdma phone, its okay. this is the reason that you can go buy any cdma phone and have it put on verizon's networks (a few steps, of course.)
Re: Motorola V710 release date? Hopefully 7/30/04 ...From my Verizon rep who was as giddy as a school boy that we would have it before the corporate Verizon stores. Supposedly there are 2 initial drop dates, one on the 3rd (which seems far too early) and the other on the 5th. The way it will work is that the top 2500 stores for selling Verizon handsets would get them early, and the rest of the stores would slowly get them no later than the last week of August.
You are correct without a doubt. As of Friday the sku was definitely not active, probably won't be until sometime next week. Whoever claimed it was active couldn't be further from the truth, and that is fact.
the us motorola site updated.... on the main page there is now a picture that says "V710 COMMING SOON!"
I called Verizon and asked if I had a Top 2500 store in my area. They listed them for me and they were both the non-kiosk stores in Columbia, SC so I imagine most of the main stores in most areas will be. Of course, neither the customer service rep nor her supervisor knew anything about when the phone would be released and wouldn't comment on the Radio Shack information. I don't think they really had any information about Radio Shack being able to sell them but said that if they were then that would be the only place to get them until Verizon released them which they "did not have a release date to be shared with customers" on. I had talked with both Top 2500 stores in my city this weekend. One told me she thought in the "next couple of weeks" and the other really hadn't heard anything at all. Of course, he also said he would give me a new phone to use until it came out because I told him that mine was falling apart. It's very frustrating the lack of consistant information (or lack thereof) that comes out of talking to customer service reps. With my local phone company *cough*BELLSOUTH*cough* (which I will be shutting off when the v710 comes out), if I hang up and call back, I get a completely different answer to the same question. I often call back until I get the answer I want. This sort of feels like that.
What's the link to that? When I go to www.motorola.com/us it doesn't have it. It just has something about "Seamless Mobility is Here".
We meant the top 2500 radioshack stores not verizon. There are 7000 radioshack stores. I think verizon has like 3000 stores
Yes, I saw the new message that the "V710" is coming soon....Yipee! Thank God. Like so many other people on this thread, I'm going to submit my 2 cents, also. I am so frustrated that Verizon knows that they have the cellular industry by the n*tsack because they have the best reception/coverage of any other provider out there. You couldn't pay me to have a sprint or omnipoint, oops, i mean voicestream, oops, i mean t-mobile, or cingular, or some Godforsaken GSM AT&T piece of crap phone. All of my friends have been snapping pictures and sending enhanced text messages with their awesome phones while all I do is rely on the fact that at least I won't get a dropped call. I think the other companies try to **"razzle-dazzle"** consumers into forgetting that their coverage sucks with a glamorous phone. I've been a loyal Verizon customer since it was B.A.M. and have stuck with them because of it's service. But I feel VZW has monopolized their hold over tech-savvy consumers that await the V710 with baited breath. It's about time I, and people like me, are offered viable CHOICES and cell phone options in order to be competitive with what else is out there. Yet, I know although I am an angry consumer, I will still read this thread and still look on verizonwireless.com before I even open up my work outlook in the morning to make sure the V710 hasn't been released yet. Okay, I'm done ranting.
So.....Radio Shack has them now and Verizon doesn't and no one knows why a vendor is able to release the phone before the main company?
This always happens... Motorola themselves have said the phone will be available in August, so give VZW five more days and see what developes, even if you can order a phone from RS you're probably going to pay more and may not even recieve your phone for several days.
i want to get the new v710, but my contract istn up till 6 months. Now, my brother is eligible for the 100 towards a new phone, and he doesnt care wwht phone he uses. Is it possible for him to buy the v710 and not activate it, and then me and him swap hardware then have the phones activated so that i use v710? Has anyone done this before? Thanks!
I am so sick of this from Verizon and Motorola. How can a stupid company not know when the phone is going to vome out?! I only found out about it about 3 weeks ago and I am throughly frustrated at this point! I have no idea how those of you that have been waiting 3 or more months are doing it!!! At this point I am ready to say verizon and motorola and go with a new provider and phone brand!!! Please if anyone finds out something a little less vague that August for the release date, PLEASE let me know!!!
This shouldnt be a problem. Even if they require him to activate it...once he does that, you guys should be able to swap the hardware. They should be able to do it on the spot. If they don't, then just go back the next day to do the swap (after he purchases it) or goto a different store. If they give you a hard time, I say take your business elsewhere (different store).
Yes, however, he needs to activate the phone for his line, since you are renewing his contract (which is # specific), once it's activated for his line, you can do a simple ESN swap between your phone and the V710 on VZW website.
I've been monitoring this thread for a while to get the scoop on the launch. By luck, I got the following from Verizon buddy: "Phones will be in stores Aug 6, available to customers Aug 11. Yours for only $249 after $70 rebate."
Technically, yes that would work out perfectly. He would purchase the v710 and then you 2 can switch phones and take it into a verizon store and they will switch your numbers. And im 100% positive on that one
I found a website that is offering pre-sales of the phone without a contract for $450 with free shipping. So the non contract prince is not going to be as high as $520 as we thought. If you want to find that site do a search in froogle for the motorola v710
Why wouldn't RS be able to sell them before Verizon? I've never seen any "written law" that says an indirect vendor is prohibited from selling a handset just because Verizon was dragging its feet with release. If the phones approved and ready for sale then why not give the people what they want? It used to be that RS bought it's Verizon handsets directly from the manufacturer, for a period that changed and the mistake was made to buy directly from Verizon. I would have to double check, but I'm fairly certain RS has gone back to buying direct from the manufacturer (i.e. Motorola). This would make sense for them having it before Verizon corporate stores. Besides we've all waited long enough, somebody has to get this ball rolling...ironic that it isn't Verizon in the end.
Just because radioshack will have the phone first doesn't mean they will be in mass supply. Normally with all phones the first week each store will get about 2 or 3 a piece. Then about 2 weeks later the big deliverly comes. Verizon doesn't like doing that they rather have a decent supply before a launch. Radishack doesn't care we'll take any phone sale we can from verizon. So, yes radioshack will have it first but, you ain't getting one. I am
