Long time reader, first time poster: I do not know how credible this site/news is, however i just happen to come accross it: http://bluetooth.weblogsinc.com/entry/6447881577833201/ There is another under "related links" that has similar news: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/s...04/0002213786&EDATE=TUE+Jul+20+2004,+10:21+AM - hoping the v710 comes out sooner than later
Verizon and Motorola are saying nothing more than "August 2004"...At least we know it will be this year!
Motorola MPx200 $409.99 (Retail Price) -$70.00 instant rebate $339.99 I highly doubt the v710 will be more than this phone considering it has outlook and other windows add ons, takes pictures and also had extra storage. http://attwireless.com/personal/products/phonedetails.jhtml?id=1200012&titleNumber=3 check it out I WANT THE V710 NOW!!!!!
In a previous post someone made reference to Transflash media and adapters to access the media on your PC. I found links to buy the SanDisk Transflash media, but I cannot find any information about an "adapter." Does anyone have any idea if these claims are true and in what price range and adapter will be? Also does anyone know if you will be able to transfer image/video files to your PC from your phone, along with transferring music from your PC to your phone via Bluetooth?
Here's a link to the Sandisk info on the T-Flash: http://www.sandisk.com/pressrelease/20040227.html Here's a quote from that page: "When inserted into an available SD adapter, TransFlash converts into the SD card for interoperability with standard SD devices so consumers can exchange data between their TransFlash-equipped mobile phone and any SD compatible host, such as a digital camera, PDA or laptop PC" The adaptor DOES exist -- No doubt. From what I gather, it is included with many of the Transflash cards... I'm not positive about that, though (I did see a photo of a T-flash card/Adaptor clamshell retail pack). Do a Froogle search for "Transflash" to get pricing
Ive seen the usb blue tooth on the v710 accessories page at motorola. Im assuming from this you can just transfer data back and forth from phone to computer once you have this
I hope the V710 has a LOT more going for it than the MPx200. I bought the MPx200 about 8 months ago from AT&T Wireless and have had the worst experience with it than any other cell phone I've had. 1> POOR battery life (about 24 hours of standby). 2> Lousy GSM reception (No service VS 2-3 bars with another cell phone in the same room). 3> Slow operation with SmartPhone 2002 operating system; frequent power cycling required. 4> Not upgradeable. If AT&T would have offered an upgrade to the 2003 O/S, maybe I would have stuck around longer. 5> AT&T Wireless (and we'll leave it at that). A co-worker has the V600 and sings it's praises, good reception, few dropped calls, and long battery life. That's what I'm hoping for when I purchase the V710 from Verizon next month. GSM may be the up & coming thing of the future, but CDMA is here now. I'm still amazed how AT&T Wireless runs those GSM signal strength commercials with a straight face and with their nose not growing. First time poster to this forum, found it when I was researching the V710. To all posters on this thread, thank you very much for the information you've shared, greatly appreciated. Steve
That is absurd if they really are. I haven't seen this unless there is a flat charge added, then again, I haven't used Verizon in a year or so, so I haven't really been looking.
It would seem that you are correct in assuming that the adapter will come with the TransFlash cards. This is a quote from a SanDisk product info guide: "The TransFlash memory module can be inserted into an adapter (included) and used in other SD-based devices" Here is the link to the SanDisk Guide : http://www.sandisk.com/pdf/retail/retail-product-info-guide.pdf Side Note : The V710 should be a great phone if Verizon does not lock it down too much.
Don't assume. As I posted previously, there is conflicting info regarding using Mobile Phone Tools 2.0 with Bluetooth USB Adapter to sync with V710. HelloMoto.com indicates the two are compatible. The MPT brochure does not list the V710 as being compatible with Bluetooth syncing. Pre-production owners have indicated that the required profile is missing. I was really hoping to accomplish two things with Bluetooth and the V710: 1. Connect to a headset or speakerphone device 2. Sync with Outlook (contacts and calendar) Looks like only #1 is going to happen, but I'm hoping that #2 works.
Hi! I know everyone says that eBay auctions are unreliable but there is someone selling 190 individual units on eBay right now for $449. He/she has very high feedback and states that the auction is a pre-sell and that they expect to get and ship the phones the week of August 2nd. I just thought I would pass along the information. Due to the seller's high feedback, I can't imagine that it is a scam. The auction states that they have no control over the ship date but that they are being told August 2nd. They are selling V710s for Verizon. I would hope this is a reliable date and that we can expect the phones in another week. Here's hoping... :deadhorse
I'd wait until the Verizon stores have them in stock. Looks like you can't upgrade and have to buy a phone at retail price. I believe retail at the corporate stores will be close to $449.00 so you may as well buy it from them instead of taking chances with Ebay.
Re: Motorola V710 release date? Hopefully 7/30/04 After seeing another thread with the Radio Shack advertisement scan and after getting vague answers from Verizon themselves, thought I'd go visit my neighborhood Radio Shack and talk with them. When I asked, they thought they might actually have one. Nah, none in the store. Showed them the printout of their ad that was posted and they went to their storeroom and came back with the full-blown 7/30/04 circular, and gave me a copy. They promised me that it would be arriving next Friday, 7/30. To guarantee my reservation, I went ahead and prepaid for one. The manager contacted their central warehouse ofc. and informed them that a customer had prepurchased one and to make sure one was at his store at 11am on Friday, the date/time their weekly shipments come in. If not, the manager would personally track one down for me that day. Hey, a lot better offer and a lot more enthusiastic than the sales ofc. We'll have to see if this comes to be, but at least I'm getting more information than the Verizon office was providing "sometime next month".
Re: Motorola V710 release date? Hopefully 7/30/04 Being an actual radioshack employee i hate to tell but he must have just rung up it under "other store income" with a memo attached to it saying it was for the v710. Radioshack hasn't offically done prepaids, deposits, and layaways for about a year now. Basically he just wanted to ensure that you came back to him. "The manager contacted their central warehouse ofc. and informed them that a customer had prepurchased one and to make sure one was at his store at 11am on Friday, the date/time their weekly shipments come in." that is bs - if he did that he would be laughed at or fired he did it on strong hopes and the phone isn't in the store computer system or the warehouse system yet. i just hope he follows through and the phone is in stock by then I'm in the same boat as your waiting for this phone and if i could rush it, trust me i would. all i can do is wait and watch the devilerly sheets before they come in. Good luck to you. oh yea what is the sku on the receipt you got?
"Pre-sell"? All that means is that he's going to collect money from people and buy the phone at retail AFTER VZW launches it - assuming he's reputable. You'd do no better with him than you would buying from VZW.
I wasn't planning on actually getting one since I qualify for the "New every two" which will give me $100 off at Verizon and I would get the 2 year contract price anyways. I was simply offering it up as a possible release date. I don't have access to any industry information as I don't work for anything remotely related to phones so I saw that and thought I would share with everyone.
Re: Motorola V710 release date? Hopefully 7/30/04 As you're a Radio Shack employee, you know as well as I do that it's not in the computer yet and therefore, no SKU. I've got a receipt for a Verizon phone with, just as you mention above, a note regarding the V710. That's the best I can do at this time. Having a sorry MPx-200 with AT&T Wireless, I'm in dire straights for a functional cellphone and am trying to get the V710 ASAP as I'm sure the rest of those on this thread are. The Verizon office would give me no particulars, no offer to call me when they're available, and no chance to reserve one when they came in. The Radio Shack office is one I've done successful business with in the past and know the manager and co-workers well, they provided me the sales advertisement for next week ahead of time (part # 17-1971, not available in all stores), already have my information in the computer regarding Verizon sign-up info, and as I was the first to request one, will either get the first one in the store or he will get me one from another Radio Shack store in the Houston area. I also made it clear to him that if I didn't have it by the end of the day Friday that I would be getting a refund from him. They've come through for me in the past on special orders, and hope they can do the same here. I'll let you know what happens a week from now. Have a good weekend, all.
Re: Motorola V710 release date? Hopefully 7/30/04 speaking of radio shack - I was in one on tuesday and asked about the phone, the employee told me that their verizon rep thinks the v710 is "a myth" ...
Re: Motorola V710 release date? Hopefully 7/30/04 Found this on phonescoop (I think I just saw Sensei post a new thread in re: to this) "by VzwSlsRp Thursday, 12:19 PM Finally, an answer! The following is an excerpt from an e-mail I received from our Motorola rep for the main VZW sales office: We passed phase 4 testing (friendly user trial) and received the approval to launch the V710, three days ago. The phone is being shipped to your DC's as we speak. As far as a launch date goes, if you figure a week to ship to the DC's and have the get everything in order, then another week to seed the stores, receive their launch kits and so on, I would predict that the phone will launch between Tuesday Aug. 3, and Tuesday Aug. 10th. Please feel free to tell everyone! *** And there you have it, straight from the source! I, for one, am looking forward to the opportunity to sell this piece of equipment! It's going to be huge!!!"
I hate to sound like a HoFo ****, but please take a look at the other posts and the other V710 threads before posting questions like this. But, in a nutshell...more than likely, MP3 ringtones will have to be purchased through GetItNow. Technically speaking, you COULD create a ringtone from any MP3 file (some transcoding would be involved), but it's unlikely VZW will allow you to actually upload them into the phone, short of a GIN app that will charge you money for each use. As stated earlier, the V710 will not support the OBEX Bluetooth profile - meaning that files, pictures, ringtones, etc. will not be transferrable over BT. The TransFlash card can be used to view pictures & video & listen to MP3 files, but those files will not be transferrable off the card into the phone for use as wallpaper, ringtones, etc. (However, it looks as though you WILL be able to transfer pictures & video taken with the phone to a PC using the TransFlash card.)
Re: Motorola V710 release date? Hopefully 7/30/04 He's telling you Friday because the top 2500 stores are supposed to have them by August 5th.
Re: Motorola V710 release date? Hopefully 7/30/04 My store is in the top 2500 where did you hear aug 5?
Apparently the SKU at Radio Shack is in the computers now as of Friday and people are reporting success at ordering the phone at the store to be shipped to them directly at home this week, since RS has them in their warehouses. I called my local RS and they said if I come in, I could order it today and have it by free standard shipping within a few days. I would have to order it at full retail price, of course, but could return it to the store when I get it and re-purchase it on the spot as an upgrade (I'm out of contract). This would be great if it weren't for the fact that I'm NE2 eligible and given the price of this phone that extra $100 is important. Since I assume I can only have that NE2 credit by purchasing it at a Verizon store, I'm not going the RS route, but for those buying at retail, I guess you can have your v710 in a few days. Which leads me to the question, why is RS getting the phones before Verizon stores?! I know they have different suppliers but shouldn't Verizon be selling it first?
Even if the phones were sold early by RS, wouldn't Verizon's network have to be set up to accept them?
