I would be wary of any auctions at this stage. Most of the auctions out there are scams. The ones that are genuine are likely engineering samples or field test units, and are not running finalized firmware.

In this instance, the image probably isn't of the phone for sale (no VZW branding on the phone) and the seller has zero feedback. What's more, the item description looks like it was pulled straight off Phonescoop. Considering that the launch is nearly upon us, why spend $550 to have the phone a couple of weeks before anyone else? Like I said before, it's just a phone.

I'm a newbie to WA (imagine, got tired of sifting around in Phonescoop)...I'm really suspicious of that listing. It's not quite as bad as the Romanian frauds on Ebay lately for the V710, but:

    1. no prior history on the user
    2. Postal code of 0100 in Italy - is that even a real postal code, and the phone is being released in the US...
    3. That picture looks really familiar, I'm pretty sure I've seen it somewhere else (can't recall where, though - I tried to find it to no avail).

The only thing going for this user is he's accepting PayPal, while the other scams all required Western Union. So my apologies if this is real, but I'm skeptical.

I'd just wait until your local Verizon Wireless store or authorized agent can sell you one in a nice shiny box. :)

I don't normally listen to anything on PhoneScoop.com but a user with some credibillity posted this today:

"vzw gave moto final shipping authorization. the package and it's contents (ie. manual cable etc.) was given approval today. the software/firmware version on the v710 is 1.30.8E."

This would be consistant with what bonoriffic posted on Friday about the phone getting final software authorization and that the formal shipping authorization should follow on Monday.

Can we get verification that this is true? If so, I guess the only things left are release date and price.

It's not EXACTLY what Bono said -
As Bono also pointed out in a later post, there are two approval stages - the final approval and the ship authorization. If the Phonescoop poster is right, then the phone is actually en route to stores (or will be shortly) - but seeing what those forums are like, I would take that with an enormous grain of salt.

I read PhoneScoop for the comedy, and an occasional nugget of info. I have noticed this user has been posting what I've posted lately. Even the same words are used. He may be very reliable, but I did a search back to late June and he only posts info I previously posted. Also, if he worked for Verizon test as he claims he would know what I know at least 1 to 3 days before me. Why wait until just after I post?

His biggest mistake was in this post. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_forum.php?fm=m&ff=475&fi=62806
I mentioned bluetooth and the flash card as new technology in the phone and I was suprised more bugs hadn't popped up. He then quoted me and said the bluetooth and flash card problems were reported on a certain date. There never were those problems, he misunderstood my point and ran with it. Also he parrots my annoucement that the phone was done with testing and was approved (the week before it really got approved). The only problem was I was working on the assumption that the phone would pass later that day, and we all know I was wrong. If he really worked for Verizon in test, he would have known that it actually didn't pass at that time and wouldn't have repeated my claim.

This isn't meant to start a flame war. I just don't see him as being reliable. I'm not an avid reader of PhoneScoop. If someone knows he has provided invaluable details before, I'll gladly retract.

Like I said, I definitely take anything read over at PhoneScoop with a grain of salt. 95% of the posts in the v710 forum are useless.

That being said, do we know if the phones are in fact shipping to the stores?

Did you guys notice that we finally have a definitive price in that press release, $249 after $70 rebate with a 2 year agreement. In other words $319 before any rebates which was right in the middle of my original estimate of between $300 and $350.

Timing wise, I'm not surprised that Motorola chose to put out the V710 press release today since their earnings announcement will be at 4pm- hoping to make a splash with investors and analysts that this phone will be the difference maker with their CDMA line of cell products.

Still, its nice to know some more definitive info- and that it confirmed that some of our members here were right on track with what they posted- like Bono and Critic.

Still- for a non smartphone, its definitely on the pricey side.

I think it will be the difference maker with their CDMA line. If the phone lives up to its billing, they will sell a crazy amount of them. Bluetooth is really starting to catch on, and CDMA is still considered the dominant standard in the US, put the two together and you only have one option, but the v710.

I currently have a V60 Color Flip for TDMA on AT&T. I'm going Month to Month on my plan starting the 22nd. (I won't be extended an extra year right? It automatically goes month to month until I sign something?) I was wondering is the v710 connector the same as the v60? I have the car charger and USB cable (although I'll use BT w/ my new laptop), and I was wondering if I could still use these?

Let's remember to distinguish the difference between Phonescoop's editorial staff and the users of the forums - the editors are usually very careful about only posting reliable information, whereas the forums are home to rampant speculation and BS.

That said, I just read the Moto press release. Am I the only one who thinks $249 after a $70 rebate is a bit high, considering where the VX7000 is priced?

Crtic, the VX7000 is $179 after a $70 rebate/discount with a 2 year agreement so the V710 is only $70 more. Considering that you're getting Bluetooth, a speakerphone and a memory card slot all of which the VX7000 doesn't have for only $70 more is pretty reasonable to me.

Of course it's over-priced. This is Verizon. I fully expect the 8000 when it comes out to cost $300 before rebate as well.

Give it a month and they'll drop it, the first rush will be over and the world will return to normal.

Huh. I don't think it's overpriced at all, considering the features, the combination of which isn't available on any other phone.

And, since none of the other mfr's have anything with Bluetooth, this is likely to be the only BT phone for Verizon for some time, I think, so it can and should command a premium. It's a high-end phone, with a high-end price. Nothing wrong with that IMHO...

    p.s., Hey Sam K - we finally have a 1x BT phone for our UX50's!!! :D

Yes I'm excited too. It's kind of ironic that my company gave me a Nextel Blackberry which gives me access to my personal email but I still prefer the interface of my Palm OS based Sony UX50.

I am not surprised at the price point at all. I think it's pretty accurate. I'm sure if you give it 3 months it will drop $50 - $100. I'm not sure if anyone remembers the Samsung A530 for Verizon, but the 2yr starting price point for it was $299.99. So for a new phone with completely new to the market technology, the price seems pretty reasonable to me.

Yes, it's the same. The only things you can't use are the batteries, faceplates and holsters/carrying cases. Everything else from the charger to the desktop stand charger to USB cables are the same.

Almighty1, are you sure about the batteries? I thought I saw 5705 on Motorola's accessory page for the V710 (even though I think on the battery page it still lists compatability only with the V60 - that might be an oversight on the part of Motorola's web folks). The 5705B and C worked in my 270C and in my gf's V60 with the extended-battery back (just a piece of aluminum, really, that came with a new battery since VZW only sold it for the "V60i" - I had to lie to get it for my 270c, but it worked great). I suppose we'll know for sure soon. Before Level2 made his site Pay Per View, he had mentioned yet another battery number that I hadn't heard before (and have since forgotten) that he was using with the V710.

Granted the 5705 is only 800mah - so while they call it "high performance" I have suspicions it'll be "mediocre performance" as long at BT is on, but hopefully at some point we'll see something over 1AH for us die-hard users.
