ok well thats my bad then, im not too familiar with phonescoop.... I was just browsing. Thats why i said i wasnt SURE about the FACTUALITY of the post. My apologies
I was at my local VZW store yesterday because I've been having issues with my Moto 120E. I overheard one of the tech reps say that the v710 is due out at the end of the summer. L.
I Called 1800 2 join in just a little while ago and told them i was intersted in switching to verizon and asked about the v710. the rep said it would be out sometime next month and he asked if i would like to be put on an email list and have an email sent to me when the phones released. I'm just curious if anyone else has done the same?
No, because Im friends with my verizon rep and shes got me #1 on her list for when they first come out
A Little news off the RS grapevine: My District manager stoped in today to my store and i asked him about the 710. he told me that he saw the phone a lil while ago, and that the regional manager actually got one for free. but anyway for you radioshack people out there the sku for the phone will be 17-1971. its not in the computer yet but keep watch for it.
According to my Verizon Government account rep he told me 30 to 60 days from last Friday. He told me to wait for the phone and said it is excellent.
I stopped in my verizon store today and he said they shipped last friday (7/16) and he expects them in tommorow or tuesday (7/19 or 7/20). I live near NYC so maybe the larger areas get them first?
But considering the Moto/Bluetooth first 710 contest, wouldn't they all release at around the same time?
There are only a limited number of phones in VZW's possession right now - around 7000 - which will be distributed as VZW sees fit. Moto has thousands more in production in China, and presumably will ship them to VZW as quickly as they can be manufactured. I don't think anyone knows exactly how VZW will break up the initial 7000, but it wouldn't shock me to find out that major metro areas and VZW stongholds like the NYC/NJ/PA areas got the phone first. It makes sense - VZW is headquartered in NJ, and they might want to play the initial allotment 'close to the vest', to control any post-rollout issues that might pop up. (Although considering the extensive testing on this phone, let's hope there won't be any issues.) To the forum in general: I think we should try to keep the speculation to a minimum regarding release dates. We're all looking forward to the phone, and I think we've all either called VZW, e-mailed Moto, or stopped into our local store to talk to a rep about the V710 - and we've all gotten different responses, none of them 100% accurate. I just don't want to see this thread become like what's happened to half the threads at HowardForums - "my brother's uncle's daughter's husband works for an indirect, and he talked to his rep, who said..." What we do know is this: the phone is basically ready - all major issues have been resolved, and the finalized firmware is being flashed to the 7000-ish phones VZW has in their warehouse. One the final ship authorization is given, the phones will be distributed to the stores. This may have happened on Friday, or it may happen this week. The timeframe between the final ship authorization and when the phones actually start appearing in stores is unknown, but conventional wisdom places it about 1 week. Corporate stores will definately get the phone first. Personally, I'm looking forward to the phone, but let's try to stay realistic. Remember, in the end, that it's just a phone.
If they (i.e. VZW sales reps, tech support people, etc) got V710 training, that's a good sign. I've been told by VZW employees that a phone will not be released until they've had training because obviously they need to be able to show people how to use the phone and also provide tech support for it in the stores. I won't speculate on a release date but I think this week might be a little soon.
Actually Verizon employees (mainly customer service) aren't notified of new phones release dates until 24 hours prior to scheduled release.
You're correct with regard to telesales reps, but store reps (and particularly store techs) have to receive training on any new phone in advance of release. That said, they receive the training without knowing for certain when the actual launch will occur.
Do you think they will make it available online? I live in Columbia, SC. I would like to get the phone when it comes out but if you think they might only release to major metro areas for the time being due to limited quantity, I may be out of luck for a while. Do you, or anyone else, know of a way it would be possible to get the phone through Verizon if it's only distributed up north? I'd like to get it through Verizon to get the lower 2-year contract price and the "new every two" credit. I have no idea how long it will take to have the phones manufacturered and shipped from China. Any insight would be much appreciated, thanks.
Yes... but if you read earlier in this thread, you'll see that they've already moved that date once. I believe it was originally July 10th.
but if you think about it anything less puts it at the same level as the VX7000 which it isnt. This is Verizon's top-of-the-line phone. So while I have no 'official' report of what the price of this phone will be I would say it HAS to be more than $250. Especially at first since like all technology there are the "early adopters" who always want the technology first and are willing to pay a premium.
Although this is a new phone for VZW, I personally don't think it'll be billed as their top of the line. Especially with the recent introduction of the Treo-600! Of course you could argue that the Treo-600 is a PDA/phone and the v710 is just a phone, in which case I would agree.
The VX7000 is selling for $179 after rebate, the V710 will probably sell for somewhere between $229 and $249 after rebate, though if they price it higher, you are right, people will buy it... I've never seen such anticiipation over a phone before... I'm really trying to hold off gettiing the VX7000, waiting for this, though I've read posts that testers like the VX7000 better
VZW probably lurks around these parts with HoFo and Phonescoop's forums to see how much they can jack up the price. :browani:
I just bought a V710 at my local store in Connecticut, they're out!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!! jk.... no but seriously I went to a CT store while waiting for my tires to get alligned and I felt like interogating one of the techs which is always fun especially because 9 out of 10 have no idea about anything except whats in the book.... Me: Hi, I'm currently a TMOBILE customer and I need a bluetooth phone I figured you could help me out with which one to choose... Tech: Well I'm not familiar with Bluetooth too much but if your looking for an advanced phone I would highly recommend either the LG7000 or one of our smartphones, if a TMOBILE phone can do it our phones will most likely do it as well Me: Well actually I heard the only phone VZW has with BT is the V710 you guys have it? Tech: No actually it's been supposed to be released and they keep pushing it back bc it doesnt meet standards. Me: Any idea how long? Tech: I'd say about a month or two, VZW likes to test all the phones very precisely to protect it's customers, we won't release anything that's perfect or close to it. Thats what you get with us, which is why the 710 isnt out yet, bc theyve run into hurdles and thats unacceptable Me: Wow must be a pretty ****ty phone if they released the T720 and not the V710? Tech: You should get a 730, it's a much better phone. End of conversation right there....
I have been following the posts here and at HoFo and Phonescoop regarding the release of the V710. Anyway, I just called Telesales (1-800-2JOININ) and told the salesperson (who was actually quite pleasant) that I was interested in activating VZW service but I need a Bluetooth handset. He immediately stated that one should be available by next week (!). I asked if this was the V710 from Mot that I had heard about. He immediately said yes and mentioned all of the advertising that is currently being run in various print media. He also mentioned that he and the staff at Telesales had received training about the phone. I stated that the handset appears to have been delayed several times and asked if this was likely to happen again. He said no, it was definitely coming and should be available in a store for me to play with by the first week of August at the latest. I don't believe that he was motivated by commission etc. because he can't sell me something that is not yet released and he made no attempt to give me his contact info to call him back when it is released. IMHO this phone will drop very soon now. Hundreds of thousands of advertising dollars do not lie. Let's keep our eyes open to see what comes of Mot's conference call with institutional investors and analysts tomorrow. This is a huge product for Mot and will very likely be mentioned.
All what advertisement. Haven't seen anything on the east coast yet. We should all start a thread on not buying the V710 and maybe then they will release it
You obviously don't read magazines. Every issue of Entertainment Weekly I've received for the last month has had a full page ad for the V710 either on the back page or right in the front of the magazine, near the contents pages. The print ads are out there - but they're Moto's doing. VZW won't publicize the phone until they're ready to release it...which brings me to... AdamK: Sounds to me like the sales rep you spoke to was told to push the handsets they had in stock. (Although I'm not sure why they'd still have new T730s on hand - haven't they been discontinued for months?)
Sorry I don't waste my money on Entertainment magazine. Having to watch the so called entertainment out there today is bad enough. I do however get numerous business magazines on Cellular, wireless and 911E communications as I am in that business in a government capacity and sorry but no ads.
So far ads for the V710 have appeared in ESPN the Magazine, Playboy (full back cover), Golf Digest, Sports Illustrated, People, and the Wall Street Journal. There are probably also a couple that I have missed.
I just stopped into my local corporate VZW store in Frederick, MD (edge of Baltimore/Washington area). They haven't heard news, received training, or even seen the V710 in the hands of field testers. My Audiovox CDM-8500 just died after I dropped it in a cup of soda last night... I really need a phone but I don't want to waste the $50 on the Asurion deductible or the money for a crappy phone if the V710 is coming soon! Maybe I'll pick up the VX7000 and pray that the V710 comes out within the return period.
