I've been watchin this forum for some time now and after reading this i had to register and reply. I work at Radioshack and in no way does anyone know anything about this phone (unless their a regional manager or up, if that) even our verizon rep is clueless. we don't even have the vx7000 yet, those are coming in next week. We usually get a phone about a 1 to 3 weeks after verizon gets it if we get it at all.

As to your second question our phones prices are cheaper in general compared to verizon's for new activations, but for upgrades we don't participate in verzon's new every two program. But we are a litlle easier to deal with. :)

i spoke to the Verizon representative at the local Verizon store, and he said that the Moto. v710 should be released by September. hopefully he's right!

    Re: Motorola V710

The V710 has been given final approval from Verizon. The software version is 1.30.8E. An actual release date is determined by Verizon, but the phone is shipping. There will be a 90 day exclusive period for Verizon in the US. Other carriers that will have the phone will be US Cellular, Cellstar, Radio Shack, Vivo (non US carrier), and one more US carrier I can't remember.

Be sure to check PhoneScoop.com daily as that forum has a small army of teens who have nothing better to do than call every Verizon store and report every single detail their uninformed staff provide. Some days they can't be bothered to do even that and just make stuff up. There is even a web diary of a guy who posts a few random comments about his very outdated and non-production build V710, and people treat him like the final authority on the phone.

    Adam,

I am curious as to where you got your information about the VX7000. As of last week, it was still uncertain if RadioShack would even be carrying this phone. The RDs don't have any details other than that RadioShack will be carrying the V710 & that it will be in stock in all stores by late August, worse case scenario. The top-selling stores for Verizon will be the first, receiving limited quantities by late July. The accessories are already in stock. The attitude of mose Verizon reps, at least in my area, is disgust with the delays. They keep saying, "anyday now"...along with everyone else. There is also talk that employees will be restricted from buying it during the initial launch much the same way it was when the Sanyo 8100 came out for Sprint.
    What region are you from?

By now everyone's been briefed...LOL. What the staff told you about an August launch for RadioShack is fairly consistant with what I've been told. You might find it in a few stores around the Verizon corporate launch date as well.

    Re: Motorola V710

Verizon gives two approvals. The first is for the phone with the software as is. It passes all technicals requirements, or an acceptable plan to address any minor remaining issues is in place. (Yes phones sometimes ship with known defects) The second approval is final ship authorization. This is the equivalent of opening the box as it comes from the factory and verifying that it is what Verizon expects. So the user manual, cables, etc. all have to be what they are expecting. The box artwork isn't wrong, things like that.

The phone is approved. Usually the ship authorization is a formality after that, but then I've had false confidence that everything was all wrapped up before. I've been told it was to happen today, but can take up to another 2 or 3 days. So Verizon has a few thousand of these phones. Moto has several thousand more. Somewhere in China they are putting hundreds of thousands more together. When the general public gets their hands on them I have no idea.

Can anybody tell me if the V710 is a tri-mode phone for SURE? I thought it was when I saw the specs on another site, but I just wondered if its been confirmed.

I'm in LA where there are still some Analog areas in Texas which I drive through sometimes...

    Re: Motorola V710

Hey Bonoriffic, thanks for all the info - it is much appreciated. I'm not sure how Moto works it, but about 2 yrs ago I met a pilot who flew for an air cargo company called Polar Air who told me that Nokia would air-freight all their phones every couple of weeks to the US (from where I don't recall if it was Finland or what), but anyway, he proceeded to tell me that they would FILL an entire 747 full of Nokia phones and have them in the US the following day. In fact this pilot had actually flown it a couple of times and told me how freaked out he was by the number of phones. Anyway, like I said, I have no idea what Moto does, but I guess I can only hope that they have a similar process to get this phone into my hands a little sooner!

Thanks for the information, it's very comforting. I myself have called the Verizon store in my area twice and they know nothing except it's "coming". It's nice to know from someone who's informed. I dumped Cingular and my Ericsson T616 to wait on the V710. I'm used to using my built-in Bluetooth in my Prius and can't wait to have the ability to again.

I have been following this thread for a while since about page 4 and I have never posted because I didn't feel I had anything worth while to say until now. But from all the hype it prompted me to send an email to Alltel because all you hear it is that Verizon is going to get the V710. I was a Verizon customer for around 10 years(wow didn't seem that long sometimes). Well last year I moved to NW Arkansas and well as you all could see it's out of Verizon local territory. So after 6 months of paying for a plan and not getting all the features, I decided to change companies. I noticed that Alltel didn't really have many phones to choose from and they all seemed old. So I broght my own handset since i owned it.. no sense in paying for another since the best they had I already had. after I heard about the new V710 I thought wow I'd really like to get it but there's not much true information out there about Alltel and the V710. So after hearing how close it might be I sent an email to Alltel wireless service. SO for all the ALLTEL people who cannot find information this is the response to an email I sent to the Alltel wireless division. FYI I know some will doubt the thruth in this information but here it is nonetheless.

I'm not with either one of those companies I work for Tyson Foods Inc... I'm just an average Joe who would like a new phone is all so here ya go. :)

    Dear Valued ALLTEL Customer:

I will be happy to assist you. Each cellular provider has a different software and PRL programmed into their phones. Therefore, if you brought a Verizon phone to Alltel, we could not guarantee services. Alltel should have the Motorola 710 within the next month. We apologize for the inconveniences.

I was wondering since Alltel and Verizon are both CDMA carriers, If I were to purchase a newly released handset(motorola V710) from Verizon, would I be able to bring it to an Alltel store and get it activated. I know their phones work on your network because i transfered my current handset(motorola T720). I wanted to get a bluetooth enable phone(motorola V710) and Alltel does not uaually get newly released handset. So I guess my question is If I purchase this phone from verizon and bring it to you to have it turned on would it work since I was able to transfer my T720? If not why since I know if someone were to travel into your territory it would work on your network? Any information would be appriciated. Thank you for your help.

    Scott

I called Alltel. They said they had no plans to have a Bluetooth phone. Of course, the first lady I got didn't speak that great of English and didn't know what Bluetooth was and managed to disconnect me. The 2nd guy sounded like he knew a lot but my husband says he doesn't. He told me that Bluetooth was for GSM and that Alltel used CDMA. I said that Verizon was coming out with the Motorola V710 and that it was Bluetooth and they used CDMA. He told me that the V710 used both GSM and CDMA and that's why it would work. I don't know anything about phones but my husband laughed when I told him. But, he said Alltel had no plans for Bluetooth. Take it as you will, I just thought I would pass along what I found out. I don't really care which service I use so long as I get a good signal most places. With Cingular I did not. Verizon mostly, and Alltel mostly. Both Verizon and Alltel have managed to piss me off at one time or another but now I'm mostly focused on Bluetooth and coverage. Just passing along information. :)

He may know quite a bit about phones, but in this case he is not correct. Bluetooth has nothing to do with the type of service. Yes, in the past, GSM service providers have carried a few different models of bluetooh phones. But, Verizon, and I'm sure Alltell, have also carried a couple phones with bluetooth in them. Mostly they were PDA phones though costing over $400, so they weren't as common. Bluetooth is just a wireless technology sort of like 802.11 (used by wireless routers).

Hey bono, earlier there was rumors of the transflash being disabled by Verizon because they, of course, want to make money off of their get it now service. With the approved software, did this happen? Or is the phone and all of it's features fully functional?

Bono, do you have any idea whether the bluetooth on this phone is crippled through the software, or whether its just limited on the chip itself.

    Thanks.

ps. was the post yesterday @ 7:10 saying the phone was approved for dramatic effect, or just to mess w/ all of us obsessed wachos.

ok guys im new here, just recently registered. I've read pretty much every post here, and as we all know the info being thrown around is mixed up quite a bit. So after realizing i didnt want to purchase the vx7000 bc i stumbled upon the magnificent v710 i decided to have a chat with a verizon rep(actually my next door neighbor that im close friends with :) ) The news i could get from her was that she had visited an expo around two weeks ago of all the new cell phones to come. She said the v710 pretty much blew everyone away and was the highlight of the expo. She has been told its planned release is end of july and no later than august, which is great news because i cant wait much longer to get my hands on it. Anyways, hope some of my info can help you guys out.

I dont think so. I think you are talking sh..t. You posted the same on Phonescoop but its doubtful this phone will be released cheaper than the VX7000. On Monday, we shall see and I'll either owe you an apology or we'll know you're f.o.s.

i think it would at least be on the verizon website under the phone listing with a 99999 area code of the release was going to be so soon.

vx7000 was on for a while before its release

    Re: Motorola V710

I'm sure the timing was just ironic.

Regarding VZW's limiting of the v710's Bluetooth, the limitations are part of VZW's customized firmware. The hardware only has as much (or as little) functionality as the soft/firmware allows - if the firmware doesn't support all of the Bluetooth device profiles, the chip won't be able to support them.

    Re: Motorola V710

I hope its done through the firmware, that way there's at least a possibility of a hack for full bluetooth functionality. But I'm worried that if the chip itself is crippled there is nothing anyone can do.

I was on a job interview in Oak Ridge, TN this weekend and just for grins stopped in at their local VZW store. The guy there seemed reasonably knowledgeable. He said they had just completed their V710 training (whatever that is?) and were told the phone would release at the end of July. He also indicated it would be pricey, in the $300 range w/ a 2 year contract. He was careful to let me know he wasn't quoting an exact price but just the range which he had heard in training.

    Fingers crossed.
