is the v710 the only camera out there (or coming out soon) that has good picture quality? If i remember correctly, the v710 has a 1.2 MegaPixel camera... after searching around for a bit...it seems that all camera's have a 300k of 640x480k camera.... am i correct....or just missing something?
Ecko04 has stated on both PhoneScoop and HoFo that the external display is in no way a 65K color screen. You can set up picture caller ID on the phone, and it will be displayed on the external display, however the color depth (or lack thereof) makes the pictures look like crap. I'm just passing on info that I've heard from a person who's had the phone.
Yes, you're correct from a Verizon perspective. Sprint PCS released the Audiovox PM-8920 1.3MP phone this past week. http://www3.sprint.com/PR/CDA/PR_CDA_Press_Releases_Detail/0,3681,1112111,00.html The Nokia 7610 GSM phone will also be 1MP and should be out soon.
I've read the same posts you have, but I've been taking everything from Ecko04 with a grain of salt. Yes, he has the phone. Can't argue that, especially after he posted those photos. But it's obvious to me that he has a huge chip on his shoulder when it comes to the V710, and that he seems to prefer the VX7000. Also, bear in mind that since he's had his V710 for close to a month, his is likely an engineering sample or a model used in testing, and not a production model - and it won't be running the finalized firmware. Also, while the screen may be capable of showing X number of colors, the firmware has to address the screen with the proper color information. It's similar to changing the resolution on your monitor - the OS gives you options regarding color depth on the display. You should be careful about what you believe over at HoFo. There's a lot of bad/wrong/downright fake information over there, and it's hard to separate the genuine info from all the crap. I have a registration over there, but I barely post, in part because half of the threads are just people flaming each other, and the other half is info so misleading/wrong/evil that you want to hit your head against a wall in frustration. When downright genuine info comes up, it usually gets drowned out.
PM me and I'll send you a ISO. or you can download it off www.motclub.com but you need to download the 1.x first and then upgrade.
I was able to download 1.23 from motclub, but the link for the 2.x upgrade was broken. Anyone have it?
This thread is so darn long, I cant find the pricing breakdown on the v710. Anyone have it handy? Thanks.
and the latest from hofo......a july 15th release date i really gotta stop goin to that site. it always gets my hopes up. though by know i know not to believe anything that is over there. (still im crossing my fingers)
Article update: I found an article this morning that mentions the V710, along with several other camera-phones to be the some of the first mega-picture phones to be introduced in America- the article is from this morning's Chicago Tribune: http://www.chicagotribune.com/techn...ul15,1,7169644.story?coll=chi-techtopheds-hed Plus the article makes some weird metaphorical analogy to teleportation. Enjoy!
Hello all! Sorry it took me so long to get this information posted, but I'm a first time poster and it took some time to get registered on this site. Last Friday (7/9) I spoke with a staff (not call center) care manager and a rep from a store in the Midwest. The store rep said that on Friday morning (7/9), the store manager held a morning meeting before the store opened and said Verizon had informed him (the store manager) that the phone would be available for sale (and in stock) on Friday, July 23. Also on 7/9, I spoke with a care manager, and she mentioned that she had an e-mail that was sent to her earlier that week stating that the phone would be available for sale on Friday, July 16. I'm somewhat inclined to put more stock in the store's date than the care manager. Don't mean to be spreading rumors, just wanted to let all know what I heard.
I hope your right because my contract is actually up on the 23rd. I've actually been hoping that it wouldn't come out until now .
lol, thats not very good then - in keeping with the same delay the phone won't be out for another 6 weeks?
From the most recent edition of Ask the Cell Phone Diva, a regular columnist on CNET.com. I sent her an email asking =is she heard anything about the release date of the V710. It seems I was not the only who was asking. http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3504_7-5143829-1.html Hello, Moto? Where's the V710? Q: Is it really worth waiting for the Motorola V710? I'm thinking of getting the V600 instead. Please help. --Joao A: In a word: yes--definitely wait. The phone should be available in the next couple of months. Although the V600 is a solid phone with plenty of nifty features, the V710 will grow with your needs. First, it has an impressive external color display, a 1.3-megapixel camera, 16MB of RAM, and the ability to add more through an SD card. Also, the V710 is a CDMA (Verizon and Sprint) phone, whereas the V600 is a GSM (AT&T, Cingular, and T-Mobile) handset. Ultimately, a cool phone is merely as good as the service that supports it, and only you know whether a GSM or a CDMA network works best for you.
According to my "High level" Verizon contact, the phone has not even received final technical approval for use on the network but the test units are being rounded up next week so it looks like a decision will be forthcoming shortly. I wouldn't count on anything until mid-August. Had the opportunity to play with it for a while at his office and man this phone is sweet. The sound quality leaves something to be desired but the menuing is very intuitive, the screen is huge by comparison to other phones and the quality is awesome. The camera takes great quality pics too. Bluetooth connectivity seems to be restricted to headsets, car kits and hands free sets. I was not able to get it to recognize my Tungsten T Bluetooth enabled Palm. Is that even possible??? That they could lock down the type of devices a bluetooth chip will communicate with. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having an open STANDARD for bluetooth connectivity? If they do it on the chip, we are SOL but if it is a soft restriction, there will be a hack out on no time. Does anyone have any fact to go with my conjecture?
Yaliecoder- You might have a specific issue with your PDA. On HOFO (I hate to refer to there...) Jameskk has a Pocketpc which he can use for internet access through his v710. I asked him a few days ago about getting the PDA to dial up on the phone using the PDA contacts. He said that that feature works. Here's the link: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=408805&perpage=15&pagenumber=9 So there definitely IS some PDA support.
Just dropped into Radio Shack after lunch, and the staff told me that they were briefed on the v710 last week to prep for an August introduction. Nothing more specific than that, though. Two questions: 1. Do the Verizon stores generally get phones before independent distributors like Radio Shack, and if so, how long before? 2. Has anybody had any bad experiences buying Verizon phones and service from Radio Shack? :cheers2:
Strange. I don't have any problem connecting to other devices via my BT palm. Neither will acknowledge the other is available for discovery. I called Motorola but they won't comment on the phone until final release and no one at all is familiar with it at verizon tech support yet. I'll check out that article you linked to. Thanks
1. Radioshack is a huge dealer for VZW, so they generally have them the same time the corporate VZW stores do. If they get them before, it's generally just a few days. 2. I'd avoid dealers unless you're getting a killer deal on the phone or you have no other choice. RS is not the greatest to deal with if you have problems with the phone, as there are many fun stories about exchanges.
I got the v710 to recognize the Palm but now I find that there are no compatible drivers for the phone....have an email into my contact at PalmOne. I'm sure they have them if they exist yet. If anyone else has info on the drivers......... Thanks
My first post here....."Hi y'all"! I just spoke with my local Verizon dealer, and they said expect it out mid to late August. They put my name on the list of people who will be contacted once they get them in. Won't the Bluetooth still allow us to connect to the PC wirelessly? I agree, that I don't understand the advantage of Bluetooth if they are going to limit its uses!?
