Of course, if you believe that article, it's ALL Moto's fault. Notice that there's no mention of the issues created by Verizon's demands on, and customizations to, the OS.
3-4 weeks for thorough or rigorous testing... Does Verizon use one person for this working a standard 9-5 day 5 days week? What's the time frame for normal testing, 8-10 weeks?
The other reason I heard is since BT works 33 feet. Assuming in your house, your reception doesn't work in certain spots so you can leave the phone at the area where there is still signal and use both the BT headset or BT speakerphone instead and still be able to talk.
I'm not exactly sure it was somewhat of a brief conversation, but he basically reiterated what bonoriffic said to us, that there was a small problem. Also shows how people are saying all sorts of things to help brush these questions aside.
i just got back from the verizon store in rockville center (long island) and they guy working there told me he hadnt heard anything about the v710 and he also mentioned they usually recieve the phones months before they are released, and they have nothing in stock. but i played with the vx7000 and it was kinda cool........i may give in to the lg
honestly guys my 730 is falling apart, 2 batteries which give me ~4 hrs standby...software constantly freezing....drops every other car....i call people and they don't hear me.....you name it and I'm experienceing the problem. I love all that I have heard about the v710 but I'm getting p-o-ed at the wait, plus I know when it comes out I'm gonna run and buy it and I have a feeling it's gonna be another 720 scenario...phone sux and theyre gonna get into a mess.... Some guy posted earlier that the phone sux and the LG7000 is a much better phone, sure he had an engineering version but guys rumor has it the 710 isnt out yet bc testing revealed its software freezes, how many versions did we all go through on our 720's and still now I have major major issues. I like Bluetooth but I'm willing to settle with a non BT phone in exchange for one that is as stable as my old ones were. I don't like the 7000 cause it's a bit big but the new Samsung is pretty neat, any ops?
Under the 99999 Zip Code if you do a View Source, in the Meta Tags there is this: <meta name="Keywords" content="Blackberry, Motorola, Kyocera, LG, Samsung, Audiovox, phones, cell, phone, cellphone, cellular phone, mobile, mobilephone, mobile cell, rebate, v710, motorola t730" /> Don't know what this is apparently in reference to, I know it is used for Searching, but just found that tidbit a little interesting. I'm heading to a Verizon store in a little bit and will look around, I heard that some stores have new advertisements that state BT with Verizon logo on it, I'll see if this specific store has it.
Another update. Motorola has provided a software change that Verizon requested. This hopefully last version will be tested for a few days. If all goes well, final approval will be Friday or Monday. Verizon has already received 7000+ phones, all of which will have to be opened up and reflashed at a considerable cost of time and money. The stock sitting in Moto's warehouse will also have to be reflashed. I've read hundreds of posts from mostly uninformed people. I'm just one person, with one opinion. I speak as neither a representative of Motorola or Verizon. Testing consists of 4 rounds, which usually take on average 45 business days. Each round tests specific things, with each phase having certain criteria for submission. Verizon took the unusual step after the V710 passed the third phase of testing to completely re-test the entire phone before starting the final phase. The phone passed each phase the first time, plus an entire regression test. The phone's fundamentals are solid, it wouldn't get this far if it wasn't. The final phase lets the phones out into the wild, and it was during this final phase that a few problems popped up. These are the problems being hammered out now. These problems could have been found much, much earlier had Verizon not wasted many weeks re-testing the phone. The phone is most certainly coming shortly. The fact that so many phones were already delivered shows that Motorola fully expected approval this week. This is a minor setback to the benefit of the customer. This is fairly normal, and with two never before seen technologies like bluetooth and a flash card, I'm suprised there were only a few minor problems. As always, this is subject to change. Just remember Verizon sales reps and customer service people, while I'm sure are all good at what they do, have little knowledge of new phones. Remember Moto said end of Q2 availability which was just last week.
This sounds accurate... I have verified that there was a unexpected software update for a couple of minor glitches. Should definitely be out within a month. I got to play with one today, SHARP phone. Also got to play with the bluetooth which is also very cool. Oh... and the RF on this phone is definitely worth waiting for! (Blows the 6000 out of the water.)
This article is ripe with factual errors. "The latest miscue leaves Motorola without a camera phone to offer wireless carriers" Really? V600, V400, V300, etc. Plenty more camera phones available in Europe. "New Jersey-based Verizon carries just one Motorola phone" V60s, V60p, C343, and in some stores T730 and V120e. Certainly more than one. "Analysts warn this gap in Motorola’s portfolio could affect second-quarter financial results, despite continued strong sales of camera phones Motorola created for the other leading cellular technology." What the??? This sentence contradicts an earlier sentence. So now they do offer camera phones? I'm confused. "Samsung and LG have experienced very strong growth over the previous few quarters... In part, it’s come at the expense of Motorola.” Not true. Moto gained market share at the expense of Nokia, as the others also gained market share. It goes on to use an independant dealer as a source of information. That was as good as they could do? My grandma is available next time, she is just as reliable a source of information. Finally it references PhoneScoop.com, which currently has over 150 pages of posts about the phone, mostly fake reports of people claiming the phone is now available. This article sounds like one of rancid's fake press releases... except the joke is on the people who paid for that article.
Really? V600, V400, V300, etc. Plenty more camera phones available in Europe. Well... not in the US. V60s, V60p, C343, and in some stores T730 and V120e. Certainly more than one. Well... the V60S is discontinued as well as the C343. That leaves the v60p as the only phone VZW is replenishing (at a slow rate I might add.) What the??? This sentence contradicts an earlier sentence. So now they do offer camera phones? I'm confused. I agree.... ignorant statement. lol Not true. Moto gained market share at the expense of Nokia, as the others also gained market share. I agree... Nokia is a CDMA loser... (good... ugly phones) It goes on to use an independant dealer as a source of information. That was as good as they could do? My grandma is available next time, she is just as reliable a source of information. Finally it references PhoneScoop.com, which currently has over 150 pages of posts about the phone, mostly fake reports of people claiming the phone is now available. LOL! I think Motorola has been out of the CDMA game for a few years now... They are about to repent though!
Bono, Have you heard anything about how the initial 7,000 are going to be dispersed? I'm assuming Verizon Corporate stores are going to get that first chunk? I'm curious to see if you have any idea how quickly the 710's are going to filter down to the indirect channels. The "closely affiliated" authorized retailer I work for is saying we should have them by end of August which I think is ridiculous. Any insight?
Hi, Ive been following this thread for a while now (since it was only 3 pages long)...and i have a couple questions (some might be off topic).... I know the v710 has a small display in front of it, but is that display capable of showing pictures on it? i.e. for caller id? I know that the Samsung e715 also has a display in front, but it doesn't show pictures of callers on it (it is only used for camera mode, and to display time, and such info).... which brings me to my next question....anyone know of any other phones which do this? Lastly, I am currently a cingular customer....and i was wondering if the v710 will go to any other providers such as cingular, at&t or tmobile.... thanks in advance...
yes i know. i was going to add to my post at the end that he sounded like he didnt know what he was talking about but i deleted the text cause i didnt want my opinion to be confused as fact and then ya'll think i was a lyin bout the info i gave even though i wasnt that samsung phone was pretty neat too. but no video (that i noticed) and no speakerphone (again, that i noticed)
bonoriffic, is there any reason why VZW wouldn't just have the stores reflash the phone when it's sold? They have to program it anyway when someone buys it. Or is that not feasible because every store doesn't have this capability? Or does it take too long to do it?
Well, your average sale & activation, from the point of the customer making the decision to the customer walking out the door, takes about 20-30 minutes. Now add to that time another 15-30 for reflashing of the phone. (times are approximate, based on observations at my local VZW store). So that's anywhere from 35 minutes to an hour for a single activation. Now multiply that by 7000.
Did anyone notice in version 2.21e of mobile phone tools, which I just downloaded today. (Either came out today or yesterday) Has added skins for the 710 and also the 810. This means Motorola is preparing for this phone to be launched to the public. I believe Bono is right and the phone will be out by next week for sure.
From everything that I've heard, yes you can. However, the screen is most likely only a 4K color screen and so what I've heard is pictures displayed on it don't look so great. As far as Verizon is concerned, I believe the LG Vx7000 and Samsung A670 do it as well. The 710 is a CDMA phone and there is no indication that the phone will be brought over to any other carriers (a la v60 or t720). Motorola does not supply very many phones to Sprint so you probably won't even see it there.
Hi! I've been reading the thread and I really appreciate all the information. I registered so I may ask this question. I drive a 2004 Toyota Prius. It has a Bluetooth phone system in the car. I was previously using the Ericson T616 to talk through my system. It was choppy and hard to hear/understand me at best. I think I should attribute a lot of this to Cingular whom I have now dumped. I am back at Verizon awaiting the V710. Does anyone know if the V710 will work with my car and if I should expect poor reception through my car system? I don't know if the problems are a function of the Bluetooth or the reception. I never got a decent signal at Cingular. I would hate to go through all the trouble and money only to have it not work. My husband just upgraded his contract and phone (he likes Nokia) and if we have to go to another carrier for Bluetooth that works with my car, we would need to do it soon. Thanks!
Point taken, but obviously all 7000 units won't be at the same store, they'll be spread out at all the retail stores all over. If you split that work amoungst all the stores all over the country, it wouldn't be that much for each store to reflash each phone as they sell it or even when they get them in stock instead of having a group of people do it in the warehouse unless the warehouse has the facilities to flash phones in bulk. I guess I would also have to know how the warehouse is equipped to flash phones before speculating.
J-Man do you happen to have a copy of the Mobile Phone Tools, I lost my CD for my Motorola V60 Color and can't hook it up, not to mention they won't allow me to download it again.
Just quick bluetooth note, in case anybody already owns (or is planning to buy) a Jabra Freespeak headset for the v710, this is what their customer service told me: Thank you for contacting JABRA, North America! The FreeSpeak BT250 is compatible with the Motorola V710. The product code needed, is 100-98000000-02. Should you have any questions, or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at Product Support. Susan Product Support JABRA, North America 1-800-327-2230 I can safely assume that the Jabra 200 will be compaitable as well.
Well, we have three corporate stores relatively close by and only one of them will do flashing (or any technical work other than antenna replacement). And because of that fact, you usually have a wait time of 30 minutes to an hour just to get in to talk to the technicians.
I would have to go back and look at the specs again, but if I remember correctly, the inner display is 262K colors, and the outer display is 65K colors.
