Actually, the contest end date used to be July 10th. Then they moved it to August 1st. They could move it again.....
Does anyone know how the MP3 player functionality is going to work on this phone? Is it going to be like all of the other moto's where you have to buy the specific head set for the phone to play MP3's or will it play MP3's through any old head set? Is there any software on the phone that reads ID3 tags or filenames so you can manipulate the MP3's? Just curious if anyone has heard anything....
Yeah, I was the one that posted a link to that HoFo thread over here And BTW, I hate exclusivity agreements
Monday should be "the call" as some threads on other boards put it. Monday should be the official release authorization. (Pending any last minute problems) Testing was finished on July 7th, it takes a few days for the paperwork to then filter to where it needs to go. Tuesday the phones start to ship to Verizon. You can have it in your hands as early as Tuesday, I'd imagine it might take up to a week for it to show up everywhere.
So, how do we go about getting it that quickly? Obviously there is going to be a huge demand for this phone, possibly surpassing the initial inventory to stores.
There are around 35k sitting in a warehouse ready to be shipped. I don't know how Verizon plans to split that up. After that a steady supply should be flowing within a few weeks. Unless there is a huge national ad campaign, the demand won't be as high as you think at first. How many people rush out to buy a phone the day it is released? Of course nothing is set in stone. The phone could be delayed until next year for all I know. I'm just a guy who passes along what he hears.
And we appreciate all the info you have given us Bono! It sounds promising, though I know not to get my hopes up.
Bonorrific, I was curious as to where you got your information? I think the V710 has to come out in the near future (there is a sudden glutton of advertising in everything from Sports Illustrated to the WSJ), but your information is so specific. Pardon my curiousity. Thank you ahead of time.....
Yes. This was the case to me last summar when I canceled my contract on a Monday when the expiration day was in the weekend. ATT insisted that they have 24x7 service so we HAVE TO do this prior to the expiration. As a consumer, what will be our standing point?
huh.......when i click on the link from the v710 homepage it says 'Page Cannot Be Found....' maybe theyre updating it ________________________________________________________ http://commerce.motorola.com/consumer/QWhtml/products/V710details.html still has date as august 1st....
This thread has been posted at HowardForums and now PhoneScoop. Hopefully the volume of fake posts and name calling won't spread to this forum. To clear some things up. This information was current as of Friday, and who knows what developments the weekend brought. When Motorola gets ship authorization, they send the phones to Verizon. As far as Motorola is concerned, the phone has been released and is available. People seem confident the phones will go out the door this week. Now if Verizon decides to wait until they have thousands in storage, or until some large advertising promotion is ready, or until a certain day of the month... that is up to them. So don't think that just because Motorola shipped the phone to Verizon that you can have it in your hands then. You could have it the day after it is shipped. I'd expect Verizon to wait on inventory levels to be higher so that you don't have a vx7000 scenario where some stores are selling it and other stores aren't.
I’ve been following this forum for a while and I’ve been doing a little research… Found something interesting, if you search for v710 on verizon’s site you get five matches and the links take you to their phones. Perhaps the v710 is in the db and just blocked for the time being… Hopefully this means the phone will come out real soon… I’ve seen the phone on sale on ebay… some are scams so be careful. I almost went ahead and bought one then they caught the guy. However, I’ve also seen some legit postings with the verizon branding, but the phone is going for $600 and needless to say they go fast. Here’s an example… See link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5708915534 Talked to a guy at a Circuit City store and he told me they wont get the phone till October, but this is normal for third party venues to receive the phone at a later time. Verizon has been completely unhelpful in providing any info. Verizon messed up my account (I was in the 14 day period) and I was left with the option of getting a new number or not being able to receive calls for a week and keep the same number. I didn’t like either option so I ported over to t-mobile, with hopes that the v710 will come out before my 14 days are up so I can port back and get the v710, if not ill still port back but I’ll pick up a basic phone and wait until it comes out and be stuck paying full price. I get horrid service in my area with t-mobile, but the phone has Bluetooth and I bought the Motorola ear piece that you see advertised with the v710. All I have to say about the headset and the Bluetooth capability is… Awesome. What do you guys think about the Verizon CEO’s comment to having Bluetooth available on their network “you better switch” ? See Link: http://bluetooth.weblogsinc.com/entry/4192212665587522/ Just thought I’d share what I’ve found… I hope all of us have a v710 in hand very soon!!
If you look at the source code on the pages that came back in the search, you'll see that VZW added "v710" to the meta tags, which would create the search result. It's an effort to catch people's eyes if they Google the phrase "v710". It's merely an indication that VZW intends to carry the phone - not an indication of WHEN. The (non-scam) phones that are out there on eBay are most likely engineering models, and not the production version - at least, as far as I can tell. I'd say he was probably either misinformed, ignorant, or that was his "funny" way of not discussing a phone that hasn't been launched. Either way, I'm sure he got a dressing-down when he got back to the office.
Kind of off topic, but has anyone used the HS820 BT headset? I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. I know you can get a free HS810, but if the 820 is better, I'd pony up the cash for it. It looks like the 820 is smaller and also is BT 1.2 compliant. Any other differences anyone knows of?
I was wondering what the purpose of the BT speakerphone was. I thought the phone had built-in speakerphone.
Motorola has an adapter that provides BT capabilities that will attach to certain phones. You can use this adapter with the BT speakerphone for phone that do not have built in speakerphone and/or BT.
I am runnning out of patience waiting  !!!!!!! saw a listing on Ebay this morning for V810, brand new in the box (according to the seller), he's got 6 units on hand and is willing to sell it for $350 including shipping......should I just get this?!?!? my birthday :birthday: is in two weeks!! i was hoping i'll have the v710 or v810 by then....but the outlook isn't looking too promising.... ang
I'd wait. $350.00 for the V810 seems high for a phone that'll be released soon. I'm thinking $199.00 with an upgrade.
my birthday has come and gone and no v710 I guess there's always Christmas....surely it'll be out by then. Maybe, if we're lucky, the Great Pumpkin will deliver it
The reason I ask is because the contest for the first 710 ppl on the Moto site is for your choice of a BT headset or a BT speakerphone. Just wondering why ppl would choose the BT speakerphone if the 710 has a built-in speakerphone.
Simple answer - it's a cheap alternative to a full-blown car kit. You just place the BT speakerphone somewhere on the dash, and your phone never has to leave your bag or beltclip. No cables, no docking cradles...
thats actually a really cool idea. much easier than fumbling in my pocket as my car swerves all over the road and i get pulled over for drunk driving.....but thats a whole other story..... hey critic, you know one of my best friend's dad was roomates with Lewis Black at Yale...they are still great friends to this day. my friend calls him 'Uncle Lou'
Personally I don't trust any auction for phones or electronics prior to official release. I stick with the old addage, "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is."
Yeah, it looks like Motorola has started to develop a reputation for deliverables being late. Check out this recent article from last week in Crain's Chicago Business- particularly focusing on the V710 and v810. http://chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/news.pl?id=13120 Although if the rumors are true and if the V710 is tested and ready to go, then right now it is probably Verizon holding things up, which does not surprise me.
Apparently it is all who you talk to and how you ask the question to find out anything from Verizon Wireless employees. I called a few stores in Florida and spoke to a representative and this is how the conversation went, Me: I'm looking to activate a new account and would like to have a phone with bluetooth technology, are there any available phones with this function? Basically his answer was this, there is one coming out very soon in the V710, but they have not given us an exact ship date, but apparently it is in the final 99% of testing now again. It was originally in testing and ready for Verizon but after alot of tests they noticed the software would freeze and they had to reupdate the software in these phones. His brother is in the testing department (don't recall what letters he said something like RG or something) and that it takes approximately 3-4 weeks for thorough testing. This problem was noticed last week and is now in rigorous testing. As soon as that happens it will ship out. He gave me an approx time table of End of July to Beginning of August. Then I spoke to another representative asking the same question, his response was not even about the V710, he mentioned they are planning on some, but not soon, by the end of the year if that. I don't know how true some of these are but the first representative seemed to be informed.
Thank you. I will continue to keep an eye out for any other news outlets that cover the V710 on the market...or the lack thereof.
