Ok just talked to a rep at the local VZW store and he said the V710 is still in testing and would be out around Christmas! Now, he very well could have been told by his boss if anyone ask about just tell them Christmas. I have no ties to this person it is just a local rep so I can't vouch for his info. Just thought I would pass along the info! I put more trust in Bono's info then the local rep anyday!
Maybe the a840 will be out around Christmas but this guy had no clue what he was talking about. More likely than being told something by his boss, he probably just made something up to avoid looking like an idiot.
AJE: In waiting for the V710 and the VX-7000, we've been reaffirmed in the fact that the reps in-store either don't know anything, or are specifically instructed how to respond to inquiries about popular upcoming phones. I shared my experience at my local VZW store a while ago, and I imagine it's pretty similar anywhere you go.
guess all we can do is wait.......im gonna be traveling later this week and may not be back til monday....bono, you think the phone will be released next week or this one? :browani:
Most sales reps (authorized retail reps anyway) have no idea when phones are going to be released. I assume Verizon likes it this way, because they don't want reps sending customers out of the store. If you have 10 people inquiring about a certain phone every day, and you send them out of the store, chances are 1 or 2 of those customers is out of contract and going to stumble across a similar phone somewhere else. That's just my theory anyway. Like I said earlier, we have a meeting with a Moto rep wed., and he won't even tell us what equipment we're going to be looking at! I think the most reliable information on upcoming phones comes from this forum. All of the senior members seem to have reliable and accurate information. I usually just hang low and take in all of the good info you guys post. Keep up the good work.
Just an update.... I called the Future Wireless San Francisco Main Store 10 minutes ago about the V710 as they had the flyer I posted a pictiure of previously and the guy said they were recalled for a problem with outgoing voice quality. He said that he did get the phones and had to shipped them back to the manufacturer. He never said when he got them but Future Wireless has 4 stores in the San Francisco Bay Area and they are a Verizon Wireless/MetroPCS indirect: San Francisco - this is the head office 651 Kearny St (415) 421-1288 San Francisco - Clement 1014 Clement Ave (415) 666-1545 Daly City - Serramonte Shopping Center (650) 758-3808 Oakland 388 Ninth St (510) 268-0728 I called the Daly City store before I called the San Francisco Main store and I talked to Jason over there who said that the ad I took a picture was run last week and the phone should be in within a week or it may already be in since I need to call the San Francisco Kearny store as they get the phones first.
Seems more likely that they got the phones, but returned them to the distributor to get them flashed with the correct release version of the firmware. Also, maybe it's just me, but doesn't it seem pretty stupid to tell the likely buyer of a top of the line phone something like "there are problems with outgoing voice quality"? Especially if there's a commission at stake? (Thankfully, we know better, but still...not everyone reads this forum...)
I'm not good at predicting the future, only reporting what is known at the time I hear it. The phone is very close to being ready. As I've often said, the phone isn't released the second somebody says it is ready. Hundreds of details need to be accounted for and a small delay in one aspect could result in a week delay somewhere else. Both Verizon and Motorola have other things to do beside wait on the V710. Keep in mind the end of the 2nd quarter is sometime around now. Companies do screwy things to end a quarter. Sometimes they want to "empty the warehouse" to post sales on that quarter and some times they sit on it for a few more days because their numbers already look good. Not that this is what is happening here, but there are many factors that are considered before a phone is released.
Bono: What exactly is the "specific issue"? Outgoing voice quality? Meaning what, they can't hear you now?
Hello everyone!! I have been reading post off this site for two weeks now. I called my local VZW store a couple of hours ago and talk to an agent she told me that they should have the V710 any day now.
It is a conflict between the V710 and non-Moto phones during a specific sequence of events. It has nothing to do with voice quality, dropped calls, or anything serious like that.
Bono, now you have REALLY peaked my curiosity. When you have some time to type, (and if you feel like it of course), I'd appreciate your fleshing that one out a bit. I dont want to be waiting in vain for a product that is not going to serve my purpose. What is the conflict? What is the sequence of events? What is the significance of non-Moto phones? My wife has the LG VX 6000, is there some conflict between those phones? etc. etc. etc. Thanks.
Yep, I'm curious as well since I thought phones just had to be compatible with the network you're using and not with phones of others. :browani:
I read somewhere that video messages/clips sent from a V710 could not be viewed on a VX7000 and/or vice versa. I wonder if that's the "conflict between the V710 and non-Moto phones during a specific sequence of events."
Someone had posted something at Hofo a long while ago, showing the Alltel logo on the outer LCD of the V710, but I think that was generally written off as a photoshopped hoax - mainly because the main display still had VZW's GIN logo on it. I wouldn't be shocked to see Alltel (or Sprint, for that matter) get this phone eventually, but I think I remember seeing that VZW has some kind of exclusive for the near future.
That's not a bug in the phone - that's an issue with VZW's server not normalizing the clips into a common format. If memory serves, the V710 exports video in MP4 format, whereas the VX-7000 exports video in 3G2 (I think) format. They're both compatible with Quicktime, but because there's no middleware normalizing the clip into a format that EVERY phone can view (at least at the moment), V710s can only send video to V710s, VX-7000s can only send video to VX-7000s, etc. Both phones can send video to an e-mail address.
I thought I had it!! Listening to the radio at lunch and what do I hear... 710 advertised on the radio!!!! I listen closer.. Everything is sounding good. They are mentioning some of the right features… Cheap price, $99 after rebate!!!! Then.. I hear it. I710 from Nextel... There should be a law or something...
well i can tell you that i'm tired of seeing advertisements for it on wired.com etc. very frustrating to see advertisements for it and not be able to purchase it!!!
It wouldn't surprise me if other CDMA carriers get the phone, and get it to market before Verizon....a la the Kyocera Slider.
