I don't disagree with it one bit... just quite funny the way that the lady fielding calls answered me. I went in today during lunch to the store closest to my office and talked to the CS rep. He tells me "Yep, that's on recall by Motorola. We have nothing to do with it. Here's Motorola's phone number." I was more than a bit irritated, but I decided to drive on over to my usual VZW store (the one I called yesterday) and waited for about 30 minutes in line. I get to the counter, tell the lady my issue, and she replies "Oh yes, we're aware of that. The only problem is, I don't have any of the new batch in stock until Friday. Although, let me check online and see if I can just have you one shipped from the warehouse." Talk about night and day difference. As it stands now, I'm scheduled to have my replacement phone delivered on Friday and it is supposed to be new, not refurb. I guess there's a reason why I usually go to this particular store. I'm just amazed that the two stores (both VZW corp stores, located within 10 miles of each other) had such varying stories.
I went in to a local Verizon store today and told them that my phone had the tilted camera problem. They told me that they didn't have any of the fixed phones in stock but would Fedex me one. I took em up on the offer. Hope the phone has the new firmware on it.
My new 710 arrived today. Tried activating it 3 or 4 times and could never get through. I was planning on going in to the VZW shop anyway to get phonebook transferred, so I took everything in. The tech there couldn't get it to activate either. He tried 6 or 7 times. He finally says "Well, since your old phone is still working, just return that new one in the prepaid shipper and we'll order another one." Sigh... So now I gotta wait again. It was a new phone, btw... I saw no markings anywhere designating it as a refurb. (At least my understanding is they are legally required to stamp it refurb if it is??) I didn't get a chance to check the software release, but as Bono said earlier, the likelihood of updated firmware on this replacement is pretty much nil. Personally, I'm hoping to wait for the update until a few folks get it and see what happens. I fear that more functionality will be removed, not added. Well, I'm off to wait for yet another 710 in the mail.
thanks for the update, i was wondering if it had a new firmware, i haven't decided if i want to take mine back. i won't if the transflash card is disabled, which i dont think they would do but you never know.. keep us posted
I never received the V710 phone via FedEx so I went back to the store and had them research the transaction for requesting a replacement phone. The CSR told me that they had no knowledge of ther transaction even though I had a receipt. I asked that the CSR research it more and call me back later in the day. After no call towards the end of the store's business day I called and the CSR told me that that she had been on phone with someone about my problem for over an hour and would have to do more research. This was Sunday. Today, Monday, I haven't received a follow-up call back. I have to keep calling Verizon. Great customer service....Not.
It's a good thing that you have the receipt, VZW could've claimed that the transaction never existed like you said.
Keep that receipt! When I called about my first replacement, it didn't ship until a day after it was supposed to, so I had to wait longer. When I called, the VZW rep wasn't sure about anything, but when I gave her the receipt number, she pulled the transaction up and was able to trace things right away for me. I didn't notice where you're located... but I wonder if VZW still services based on their old layout (i.e. Airtouch reps in Ohio, GTE Mobilenet in Indiana, etc). I was never a fan of Airtouch, but I always got decent customer service from them... and I usually get pretty good service now when I call. Makes you wonder...
That's the very reason why I wouldn't do the replacement through fulfillment (or anything through fulfillment, really) - I tell the CS reps that I live in an apartment, and there's no one to sign for the package, and I don't want a $200 phone sitting outside all day - which is all true - but I also prefer to know if everything is up and running before I even leave the VZW store. It's just a personal preference/peeve, but I prefer doing things face-to-face.
I did keep the receipt and did have to give a transaction number. Kinda scary the way things get lost sometimes. I live in the Seattle area and have never really had any problems like this before with Verizon. I guess there is always a first time.
I just got mine swapped out at my local VZW store today. They weren't really sure what to do so they just gave me a new one. My camera takes non-crooked pictures now!
I now have a straight picture taking 710. Came in FedEx yesterday and I took it over to VZW to get my phone book swapped today. Everything looks fine... and, as was expected, the software is still the same. Based on what Bono has said in another thread, it will be a while before the update hits the street. I shouldn't complain... after owning a 720 which would shut off at will (it's will, not mine!) At least this phone doesn't do that.
