    Re: RAZR V3m

Well I talked to "Wireless data support" through options using the 1800-922-0204 number. They informed me that I would NOT be able to connect my V3m to my computer for anything else other than transfering .wma through Windows media player 10. They said everything else is blocked. They also said Bluetooth can only be used for hands free devices.

I asked why and it sounded like the guy was reading from a pre written response. It went something like Verizon has made a decision to lock phones so that all their customers are using their services. I asked what happens if I want to sync my calendar with my computer. He gave me a link to a program that will do it for me for $3 per month and I could get the program through get it now. This sounds like true monopoly. What if Windows was locked so you could only use Internet Explorer.....oh wait a court said thats against the law!

I spoke to customer service concerning this at the same number I listed. I complained concerning this "Verizon decision". If you are annoyed with this decision of theirs I would suggest you do the same.

So this is my experience so far. Guess time to figure out all the hacks.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Okay, this is probably a really silly question, but how exactly do I charge my phone using my laptop? Do I need to buy a separate USB cord to do this? I'm assuming I'll need whatever USB it is to transfer music as well, right? I'm not entirely sure how to go about this, so any help is appreciated in advance!

Re: RAZR V3m is a piece of cr@p!

Just followed the PDF file EXACTLY ans the phone will still not synch. Taking this piece of cr@p back to Verizon. I have screwed with this for over 2 hours both by myself and on the phone with Verizon. They don't have a clue. They rushed this to market and no one knows how to fix the bugs.

What worked for me was removing all drivers then plugging it in with my phone OFF getting it to regonize as a Modem then turning the phone back on and install the drivers again.

    Re: RAZR V3m

does anyone know if the headphones for the razr sold by verizon used to play music are made with a special jack to plug into the phone or are they just regular headphones with some sort of separate adapter that allows it to fit into the phone's port?

    Re: RAZR V3m

When i bought my V3m verizon sold me a mobile office kit for another 40 bucks. After 2 hours on my own figuring out to get XP and the V3m to recognize each other, i installed the quicklink phonebook managaer and the v3m wasn't supported(according to qlp). Called Verizon and they said it was smithmicro problem. Called smithmicro and they blamed verizon and said there was nothing wrong with the software. called verizon back and there anwser was "there isn't a mobile office kit for the V3m yet". I haven't had a great experience with verizon custmer service yet. If it wasn't for the coverage i would be cingular. As far as getting ringtones on you phone the only way i've found that works is through the picture mesaging on the mobile17.com site. I will say the ringtones come out ok, but crackle a little when you volume is on high.

Anybody get p2k commander or bitpim to work on the v3m?

    Re: RAZR V3m

I have been able to get pictures from the V3M using BitPim, but only if I set the model to V3C. If I use V3CM (V3C(M)), I get an error when I try to download data from the phone. No luck on ringtones yet.

    Re: RAZR V3m

    Anyone get this message?:
    Player error: License acquisition failed.

This message appears on the phone after syncing and succesfully uploading songs from PC to phone, one I try and play them.
I ripped the songs from an older cd using Media player (so it was .wma format, and I checked the 'copy protect music' box). But it seems that the phone doesn't reconize the license? Is this a pluy from verizon to only allow songs downloaded to the PC via Vcast to be succesfully played on the phone?
Is there a special way to transfer songs from ripped cd on PC using media player to the phone. Should I save songs in library, make a playlist and select songs from there. Is there a way to directly rip to the phone?

    Any insight would be appreciated

yes I am using media player 10. Does it matter if I checked the 'copy protect' box under tools>options>rip, but did not check and see if the privacy options are checked under the tools>options>privacy

I may give it just one more try. Do you know the default path where the drivers are loaded so I can get rid of them?

    Re: RAZR V3m

I emailed Verizon about the problem and this is the response I got.

    Hello Robert,

Per our phone conversation here is the information to update your drivers.

    Access the Website below:

    http://promo.motorola.com/exe/mtpfix.exe

    Now follow these steps:
Make sure the phone is not connected to the computer
    Run the PATCH (mtpfix.exe)
    Open Windows Media Player
    Select the SYNC tab
Plug the phone (Cancel any pop ups that may ask you to install MODEM drivers, they are not needed)

(On the phone) Go to Menu, Get it Now, Get Tunes & Tones

    Select SYNC music
(By selecting SYNC MUSIC on the phone menu, the phone turns from a modem to a portable music player in the Windows device manager)

Now the phone should show up a VCAST MOBILE PHONE - Removable Storage Card or VCAST MOBILE PHONE - Phone Internal Memory

Now you can sync your music by following the instructions that came with the Music Kit.

If you are still in need of assistance please call 800-922-0204 option 3 and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for using Verizon Wireless.

Subject: How to correct syncing issues with Motorola V3m and Music Essentials Kit

If a customer is having difficulties syncing music after installing the Music Essentials Kit (ex. Sync Failure, Device not recognized, etc.), the following steps explain how to correct this issue.

Have the customer install the drivers that come with the disk.
Have the customer turn off the phone off and then plug it in to their USB port.
Go to Device Manager (on the customer's computer) and make sure under Modems it says Motorola USB Modem (it may have a number after it).
    Leave the phone off.
    Go to <http://promo.motorola.com/exe/mtpfix.exe>
When the Window pops you will get the options: Open, Save, Cancel, or More Info. Choose Open.
Once the file completes, Power the phone back up.
Open Windows Media Player and Select Sync Music option on the phone under Get It Now>Get Tunes and Tones.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Create a shortcut to Device Manager on your desktop, in Win XP, by right clicking a blank area on the desktop, point to New, and click Shortcut. Type devmgmt.msc in the window that says “type the location of the item” and click next and then type Device Manager in the “Type a name for the shortcut” window and click finish. A shortcut to Device Manager will now be available on your desktop. Double-click your new Device Manager shortcut. Plug in your V3m, turn it on, and be sure it shows up in Device Manager, under Modems, as a Motorola USB Modem.

Now launch BitPim. Open BitPim Settings. Select Phone Wizard. Under carriers select Verizon. Manufacturers/Motorola. Models/V3cm. Click next. For communications port setting select auto. Click next and then finish. This takes you back to BitPim settings where you select Browse. This will take you to Choose A Comm Port. After the Available Ports are refreshed you will see available and unavailable ports. Your Motorola USB Modem should show up under Available Ports. Select Motorola USB Modem and then OK and OK. This will take you back to the main BitPim screen. Select edit then Phone Info. You should now see the Phone Info Dialog and your V3m information should be there. Click OK to close info box. Select View and then View Filesystem. Select the Filesystem icon in the tree view (on the lower left) and you should be able to browse your file system. Good luck.

    Re: RAZR V3m

There is a adapter that comes with the phone that is this little usb to headset jack. However its not a normal size (2.5mm) head jack. So I was in the Verizon store today and asked this question and I stumped all like 10 employees in the store. They thought the adapter was for a 2.5mm jack like ALL the other phones. The adapter however seems to be 1.8mm size.

I will be stopping at Radio Shack tomorrow for a 1.8mm to 2.5mm adapter, if such a thing exists. I will then let you know if the sound is in stereo. If there is no such adapter i will do some soldering and splice in my own 2.5mm female jack. I mean who cares if I destroy the cable it's so far worthless.
