Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

I don't really know what ANY drivers really DO, I think it's probably very complicated to fully understand it. But they make your computer work with some external device. All your stuff has drivers, everything you have plugged into your computer. With XP, many of the things you plug in are just loaded up with drivers and such without you having to do anything, and then the comp tells you when it's done that your stuff is ready to use. They just make your external stuff work with your comp.

The cable you have is fine. Do everything that I said before, in the order I said, and it should work. You don't need to check things. You'll know if it didn't work if the phone doesn't sync. But read my previous post, if you do it in the correct order, as long as you have the correct drivers and everything it should do it. mtp fix and drivertool are all you need IF you have already downloaded the drivers. If you don't have them, you need those too.

ok (soooo sorry) 1. what drivers do I need to have? 2. How do I check to see if I have them or not? and 3. Where do I download them from?---I was looking at the sticky "getting the V3m connected" and looking at the pics I -tried to find that on my comp but I can't....I have a Verizon, Motorola, Razr V3m...(and a pc not a mac lol)

    Okay, go here:

    http://www.hacktherazr.com/downloads.html

You want to get the top three downloads. First is the drivertool. Run that first. Second is the drivers... I thought since you're so careful about downloads you'd know if you had downloaded them or not... but you can check in whatever folder you tend to save stuff in... it certainly doesn't hurt to download them again. Put them somewhere you can remember, sometimes you need to direct your comp to the folder to get it working. Third is the mtp fix. Run that right after drivertool. Then plug in phone.

    Try this:

    http://www.hacktherazr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=868

    For help with Bitpim.

    And this:

    http://www.hacktherazr.com/vidguides/p2kseemedit/

Is a video of how to do a seem edit. It walks you, step by step, through doing the USB transfers seem edit, which is what you need for getting MPT working for file transfers. Once you see how seem editing works you'll become more and more comfortable with browsing around and realize how easy it is to make other edits as well. Good luck!

sorry it wasn't my question but I'm curious too....Verizon...songs on SD card but I know how to move them to phone too so either memory....I know it's mp3 for ringtones but wma for just listening to music.....all my songs are original mp3 format but syncing them to my SD card thru WM10 formatted them in wma automatically.....

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Yea, Verizon it must be mp3, and on the phone. So it would be no for Verizon since music is converted to wma. Alltel however uses mp3 for both music AND ringtones. So as long as the full mp3 song was stored on the PHONE memory, it will work. However, it would be silly to have a full song as a ringtone since voicemail picks up after 30 seconds. So I usually advise people to keep full songs on the card, and use the limited phone memory for ringtones which are smaller files. Now, Sprint might be different, but if anything, I think it applies to the same rules as Alltel, and also USCC for that matter. Really, it is only Verizon that cripples the customer's choices...

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

what about, if on Verizon you actually use the SD card connected thru your computer and you manually move mp3's to the SD....no syncing, no WM10, a:can that even be done without syncing? and b:will the songs read in mp3 for ringtones? (obviously of course moving them from the card memory to your phone memory once the SD is back in the phone)....I can cut down my songs also to fit the 30 sec. ringtone time frame too so that's not a problem...and actually it's better because I can choose the 30 secs. I want from the song

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

This would make sense, but I dont believe it is possible. When u add an mp3 to the card, and then put the card in the phone, I dont believe you will be able to SEE the song file on the card. Otherwise, most people would try it. This is why MPT is needed. However, if u find it possible, let us know...

Dont try to use the GetPhoneData button. Those dont work with the Sprint v3m. All you can do is plug in the phone (assuming u have the correct drivers installed and the phone charges), and then go into settings, select v3cm as the phone type, and for the comm port, click BROWSE, and then look for Motorola USB Modem listed under 'Available Ports'. Click on it, then hit ok. Then ok again at the settings screen. Then go to View, and turn on View FileSystem. Then on the left side, click the File SYstem icon, and it will show a folder in the next pane to the right. Click the + sign to expand it, and u are in the phone;s file system. BitPim's GUI isnt designed for the Sprint v3m yet that I know of.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

I bought a Motorola RAZR V3M at Costco and was told it would play .mpg files. If that is not the case, I want to know so I can return it.

re BITPIM I have used BITPIM successfully for many, many months with a Sanyo 8200. That phone died, I got the RAZR V3N, and have spent so many hours trying to make it work with Bitpam that I became frustrated.

I have joined several forums an just to post a request for information on the source of a cable and driver that is known to successfully link the RAZR V3m with BITPIM. I have plowed through reams of past messages with no success.

If yes, what cable and driver worked with BITPIM? (I have tried a Canon USB to camera cable and it has failed). Every place I go to get a cable, the same type appears. Price varies from a few to $30+ so I am leary of making a purchase.

    please reply to hhfrank@bovine.net

re: drivers for Motoroler's razr v3m,

The free program BITPIM links the phone to the program allowing for up and downloading of wallpaper(pictures) and much more.

The trick is to find the drivers without paying $30.00 plus for them.

Question: Have you fund drivers that link your phone + cable to the computer
    (my OS is XP professional)

Welcome to WA. Please give it time for people to respond before asking the same question twice in a row. The green led next to the user name shows if they are online or not. I have over 1300 posts in 7 months, so I check frequently, so please have patience.

Which Razr v3m do you have? Is it Verizon, Alltel, Sprint? The following info is for Verizon razrs.

The phone CANNOT play mpeg files. It can play mp3 files. It can also play wma files (when sync'd from WMP10). It can play 3gp video files, of which can be created FROM mpg files.

I am using a usb cable from my digital camera. I have also had success with the junkiest usb cable as well. This is NOT an issue. If you think it is, it is your drivers. It appears you missed the STICKY thread about connecting your phone to the computer -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/59219-getting-your-v3c-m-connected.html. It contains the drivers required. My sister has a Canon camera and her cable works fine. What makes u think your didnt?

As for Bitpim, once your phone is charging, go into settings, select v3cm as the phone type, and for the comm port, click BROWSE, and then look for Motorola USB Modem listed under 'Available Ports'. Click on it, then hit ok. Then ok again at the settings screen. Then go to View, and turn on View FileSystem. Then on the left side, click the File SYstem icon, and it will show a folder in the next pane to the right. Click the + sign to expand it, and u are in the phone;s file system.

re: linking a Sprint RAZR V3M to BitPim on a computer with an XP Professinal OS (service pack 2 installed)

Many thanks for the excellent moderator of this site.

Would be interested in hearing from anyone who has been successful using a Sprint RAZR V3M with BitPim. By "success" I mean (1) able to download photos and videos from the phone into BitPim then to the computer (2) able to up and download contacts lists (3) able to sinc with Office 2003's OUTLOOK calendar in order to transfer entries back and forth between the phone and the compuer (4) able to upload music files.

Having spent several hours on each of the past several days reading threads about problems users have experienced attempting to link a Sprint V3M's RAZR's to BITPIM I am surprised that so popular a phone and such excellent software don't handshake smoothly enough for conscientiou owners of the phone accomplish the task with ease. One wonders if Sprint and Motorola have intentionally made the process a difficult one, or if BitPim has had the time to make modifications for Sprint users of the RAZR V3M who also are using XP Pro with service pack 2.

BitPim does have its problems. It doesnt access certain foloders the way we would like. What more can u ask for with FREE software. Those FOUR things you listed, Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) CAN DO EVERYTHING listed. For less than $20, you can get it done.

If you put an mp3 directly on your card you won't be able to transfer it to your phone cause your music player reads music from the card and can only read wma's. You might want to try emailing yourself the ringtone, that gets it in the phones memory in the correct place. But, you have a cable, don't you? Then you can put the ringtones in with p2kcommander or MPT. p2kcommander is free, MPT costs money, both do it pretty easy. With p2kcommander you have to delete the mytonesDB.db file after you're done, and restart the phone to reindex the list of ringtones. MPT is really user friendly, just select the song, click copy, and you're good to go, no deleting any indexing file or anything.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

I'm lost again. Last month Cincyball walked me through the seem to seem hack for the Motorola RAZR V3m. Worked like a charm. I just got off the phone with motorola about sync'n my phone to WMP 11. He had me reset my phone. Nothing freaking works now. I explained to him it was working fine up to know. Anyway....... I can't find the thread that walks us through the seem to seem hack. Someone please help. Thanks, -Geoff

That's a video of a seem edit, step by step. It's for the USB transfers, and you can do the same for others by moving to a different offset, which you can do by hitting the arrow keys.
