Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Got ringtones. P2kCommander uses different drivers then it does to sync with wma10. grrr... But that's okay. I just went on a mad spree of ringtone creating (I used wavpad editor and made the ringtone files mp3's), uploaded those to the phone and switched the drivers back to sync with wma10. I just will live with the ringtones I have. Especially because when you delete the myton db and other file it deletes all the settings for your ringtones! UGH! So everytime I'd want to upload 1 ringtone I'd have to reset all my ringtone settings. That was not fun.

BitPim doesn't MAKE ringtones. I was just going to use it to put ringtones on the phone. I could not get it to work though. It only works with photos and overwrites all the other files and stuff. Won't ADD files to my phone. So I did use P2kCommander to get the files on the phone.

Now I'm back to just syncing music with wma10. I just reinstalled the appropriate drivers for that and tested it. PHEW! I think I'm done with messing with my phone for awhile now. What a pain some of it can be.

Thanks for all the help though! Your input did get me started and not so concerned about deleting those 2 files.

    Putting songs on SD card

Alrighty... I think I can actually answer a question! hehe... I just learned all this myself though so I hope something I say helps. I may repeat something someone has already mentioned too, so sorry about that.

Okay, the way I originally put music on my phone was with the SD card and a card reader. The problem was is that I only saw 1/2 my songs because they have so many stipulations about which ones you can use and which ones you cannot. The songs HAVE to be .wma format. They have to be in the my_music folder or the root directory (this worked sometimes for me and sometimes it didn't) of the sd card. They have to unprotected and there may even be something else in the whole trick of it all. There are many members on this forum who has downloaded a converter that convertered their mp3 and wma songs to the right format and then they were able to put them on the sd card and see them on the phone no problems. (I do not know what that converter would be because I never downloaded one... I'd recommend a search in this thread to find that information.)

After several attempts at that and not getting anywhere though I broke down and downloaded a few drivers from this post:
    http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/59219-getting-your-v3c-m-connected.html

Worked like a charm!!! I could sync both my and my hubbie's phone to the computer and sync using window's media player10 without any problems. Window's media player (wmp) also converts all our songs to what the phone can recognize. To me that's the best because I didn't wanna have to think about that.

I hope that helps... somehow... maybe...:p

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Deester, I completely agree, the best way to get music on the phone is synching via wmp, since wmp does all the work for you in terms of putting the files in the right type and such to be recognized. The problem is not everyone has a cable, and I think that is the case with monkeyluv43ver. Not absolutely sure though. The converter I got is one you can get for free through some sort of "plus" version of windows media player. You can get it through the normal windows update site, and there's a package of "plus" items that I think you normally have to pay for but that come free with this package for some reason. Inside was a converter, and since it is associated with wmp it may convert the files correctly for use on the phone. I haven't tried that, after the first time I put in and took out my card I decided I didn't want to have to do that anymore, since it's so hard to get out, and I had a cable and the synching working already. So, absolutely, wmp is the best way to go, the problem is if you don't have the cable. The cable can be bought for a reasonably low price, and some people may have one and not know it since it's common with many digital cameras.

Hey guys, i got a question for you, im sure it is an easy one. My phone keeps saing EV at the top of it. I dont know what that means or why it says that. Usually right there is says x1, just recently it has started saying EV. Is it bad? what does it mean?

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

EV means that you're getting an EVDO signal, which is a faster way to run data (like wireless internet goes faster here and stuff). It's not BAD, although the existance of EVDO seems somewhat unnecessary since it mostly just causes the battery to drain faster and most people don't need it anyway. It's not in all areas yet, which is why you used to see 1x. If you haven't gone anywhere different geographically, could be that they just added EVDO in your area. The main use of EVDO for most people is using vcast for music. You can't use it unless your in an EVDO area. If you don't use vcast, it's not important. There is a way to disable it, which helps save the battery. I disabled mine since supposedly your phone is constantly searching for that signal even if it's never there, which uses battery more quickly. There are some good step by step guides to disabling it, but if you don't want to do that, you're totally find leaving it the way it is. It may switch back and forth and that's no biggie.

There's a good guide for it at www.hacktherazr.com, then click on guides (I'd link it but for some reason the page isn't loading right now) and it's under battery save options and in parenthesis it mentions saving the battery by disabling evdo.

Wow thanks a lot, yea i was so lost on what that meant, i was kinda worried that it was something bad lol. Yea i might just have to disable it, i think my battery is bad already, it drains so fast lol. Plus i havent moved or anything so yea i guess we just added EVDO lol. Thanks a lot

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

The best/easiest way (in my opinion, at least) is to sync through windows media player. You need a cable, and it's a usb to mini usb cable that is pretty common, comes with some digital cameras, and can be bought by itself for a pretty low price. You need the drivers, which you can find (if you can) somewhere in this super long post, or I'd suggest getting them from www.hacktherazr.com in the downloads section. I believe on hack the razr there is also a guide on how to sync with wmp, so if you get stuck you should read over that. But it shouldn't be too hard (although it was for me, drivers not working and such, but I think the drivers at hack the razr should be updated ones that work with no extra work). Once the computer recognizes your phone after the drivers are installed, open wmp (can be 10 or 11) and go into the sync tab. Then on your phone go to get it now, get tunes and tones, sync, and your phone will attempt to connect to wmp. It should connect, but if it doesn't... you're welcome to come back and tell us what the problem is, or if you have the time and patience, you can read through this thread. I read this entire thing before I even joined the board, and I had everything set up and running by the time I finished reading. If you run into a problem with your razr, the answer is probably in this sixty something page post. You can search for your particular problem or error message also, which may help.

OMG... I feel so stupid... I put the memory card back into the computer to find there was a my_music folder on the computer when i put it in... I thought the folder was supposed to be in the phone...

Anyways, now I stry to play it and it says that since the file is protected, they have to acquire the license... and it always fails with every song! How do I fix this?

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

I've been reading threads all day long, and have d/l'd PKSeem, BitPim, MSU and MPT. All are the most recent versions of each piece of s/w. My phone is, of course, a brand-new V3m

Without beating around the bush too much, I've made the seem edit to turn on USB transfers; I've applied the "assign new modem" workaround to MPT to turn on the MultiMedia suite. I've successfully loaded a 30-second mp3 to the audio directory on the phone. I've played said mp3 from the phone through the MultiMedia suite. I've _seen_ the ringtone listed in the Tools->Sound Settings->Ring Styles->Master Volume Detail listing.

However, the phone just will not play that mp3 file. It acts as though it is playing it (prompt turns from "Play" to "Stop" when I press on "Preview", but there is no sound. If I actually set it to be a ringtone, when I call the phone it lights up and shows an incoming call, but no sound it played.

I feel bad asking such a basic question, but I've spent all day reading tons of threads, d/l'ding utilities, editing seems... and I still can't get that file to play.

Further information: when I use BitPim to try to get the ringtones from the phone, I see this in the log:

    18:03:16.765 Moto-V3c: Getting file contents '/MyToneDB.db'

18:03:24.171 Moto-V3c: Failed to read media file: bells.mid

Etc., etc. for all the ringtones.

When I view the phone with MPT, none of the ringtones that are on the phone show up in the "My Phone" windows of the MultiMedia Suite.

I'm about at my wit's end. I've clipped the mp3 so that it's only about 30 seconds lone I've set the mp3 rate to the suggested figures.

Nothing is working. Everything SEEMS (no pun intended) to be there, but the file won't play. I've tried it with a couple of different mp3s, but no go.

    What am I missing?

Thanks very much. Thanks for all your help!

Yeah, that's what I was talking about earlier with the problems you may run into with putting the music directly on the card. WMP handles everything for you when you sync with it, changes the file format, the titles if necessary, and the whole protection thing is taken care of. I don't know if you can "fix" this. It has to do with protection on the song file... where did you get the song from? I've heard some people have this problem with only certain files, some work some don't, because some are "protected" and some aren't. I assume you don't have a cable..? I'd get one, I think they're pretty cheep... don't know if there's a way to fix it with doing it this way.

EndlessBob: Backup the MyToneDB.db file with BitPim, delete the MyToneDB.db file on the phone, power down, then restart the phone to re-index the ringtones.

    It worked for me.

Just got a razr.. wondering if it was a mistake.. need some help

    Hey guys,

I just switched cell providers from U.S. Cellular to Verizon, and picked up a free razr phone ($50 mail in rebate) + $50 off because the cover is cracked where the camera lense is, although it does not effect photo taking.

I have been researching ways to 'hack' this phone for well over 3 hours now. I have read a good 45 pages of post on this thread. I am thinking verizon + Razr - #$%^.

This is what I want from my phone:
    1. I want to be able to put any music/sound I want on it from my computer.
    2. I Want to be able to put any music/sound as a ringtone.
    3. I want to be able to put any image on my phone and use as a wallpaper.
    4. I want to change that hideous screen on the front cover via wallpaper.

Are these things now possible? I have the Music Essentials kit, which was the wrong one as it the USB adapter won't fit my phone, I borrowed my friend's adapter as we both switched companies and bought the same phone with new plans.

My computer recognizes it as a Motorola modem only. I bought a 256meg expansion card. I dislike the fact that it does not play mp3, but WMA and many people have trouble with that.

I attempted using bitpim, and I can get information off of the phone but not onto it. Anyone know why? Is this the sick joke of Verizon's software? I have 15 days to return/get out of my contract with them. I almost considered buying one of the chocolate phones, this thing seems like a POS. Can anyone help? Thank you.. I am quite frustrated at this point...

    ~Arai
Even though my phone is a nice pink color..

Re: Just got a razr.. wondering if it was a mistake.. need some help

You CAN DO all those things that you want to do. It just takes some work and other programs and stuff.

I suggest using the cable you got to sync your music using wmp. You should be able to do this... you may need to run the mtp fix, which should be at www.hacktherazr.com. There's also a drivertool there which is a good thing to do if you're having problems getting your phone connected. It uninstalls all the previous drivers and sets everything up again so you can plug the phone in and have your computer do all the driver installs and stuff again. I find to get it to sync with wmp you need to run driver tool, then mtp fix, then plug in phone, go through all the steps, and you should be able to sync. The wma format is not bad, so don't look negatively on it becuase the process to get your phone to connect to wmp is difficult sometimes.

I'd suggest Motorola Phone Tools for number two and three, getting ringtones and pix onto the phone. Bitpim is good for exploring the file system, deleting stuff (as long as you're sure it's okay to delete) and overwriting files with others. It's not good for adding files. MPT is good for adding files, but it does cost money. A way around MPT is using p2kcommander. You will need to download either PST or MSU to get p2kcommander to connect to your phone. All these downloads should be available at www.hacktherazr.com in the downloads section. Anyways, PST or MSU put the phone in the proper mode to be accessed by p2kcommander. Then this program allows you to copy stuff over from your computer to your phone. For ringtones, remember after you've added your new ones, delete the file mytonesDB.db. Otherwise the ringtones won't show up on your phone. For pix, they should show up no prob. You can also make backups of original stuff on your phone with this program (or with bitpim).

For the last thing, you'll need to do a seem edit which changes it from orange to the same as your wallpaper. The only problem is that the wallpaper is squished looking becuase the dimensions are different. I didn't find this a big issue, just use a wallpaper that doesn't look bad when smushed a little. There are some great guides out there that show you how to seem edit with step by step pictures and stuff. I went by the direcitons at mark ventures site http://mark.cdmaforums.com/ but there's other good ones out there. You'll need to download p2kseem. The guys at hack the razr put together a "video" that shows you how to do a seem edit step by step while watching how it's done in the actual program. Seem editing seems at first somewhat intimidating and complicated, but when it comes down to it, all you're doing is unchecking or checking a box. It'll be labeled, and say something like "check or orange, uncheck for wallpaper" and you just check or uncheck the box next to that, and poof, you're done.

I hope all this helps you... I have to tell you, at first I hated all the stuff that was locked and the way the ui looked, but after all my hacks, I've enabled almost every feature that's possible and I honestly think my phone is totally kickass and better than any phone I ever have had and better than most any other phones out there right now!! I could come up with maybe one or two things that could be improved, but honestly, realize that ALL the things that suck about it CAN be hacked, and the phone can be awesome. So take that into consideration before cancelling.

Thank you for the reply.. That was extremely helpful.. and I have decided to give it a go with hackig this thing. I feel a littl emore encouraged. I have a couple questions. Can the phone play mp3s as ringtones? And if you record a sound can that be set as a ringtone with allt hese hacks? Thanks for the information.. I just hate that this phone doesnt already do this when my last one did, but if I can get it to work with some hacking, I am willing to gove it a try.

The phone can play mp3's as ringtones. It can't play wma's as ringtones, which is why you need a whole separate way of doing music on the phone vs. ringtones. If you record a sound, you should be able to set that as a ringtone in the phones out of the box state. Some people try to get around the more difficult ways of doing ringtones by recording a very short sound and overwriting it with bitpim... but the quality is low. So I'm pretty sure that the sound you record on your own can be used as a ringtone no prob.

I totally agree that it sucks that the phone doesn't do the stuff it should, and a lot of people moved from a different phone that did do a lot of stuff that this one doesn't, but there are so many hacks available to where you can make this phone do all kinds of things your last phone didn't. Hang in there and I think you'll be pleased.

    Hi,
I am new to this thread, just purchased a RAZR V3m from U.S. Cellular and bought and downloaded Motorola Phone Tools Deluxe. I upgraded to 4.36 and chose Bluetooth (I don’t have a USB cable). The phone is there and the program finds it but when I click NEXT it gives me an error message that says ‘Comm port installation failed’.

Why is it trying to use a Comm port? I do have a Bluetooth connection on Comm 7 but am not sure what it is for since I don’t want to use a cable, I thought that was the purpose of Bluetooth, no more cables?

I just purchased a Logitech MX 5000 Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse which came with the Bluetooth unit that plugs into a USB port and everything else is working fine as wireless.
    Thanks,
    Gary

Gary, that comm port error shows up when u still have ur phone paired with your bluetooth comp. You need to go into My Bluetooth Places and remove the pairing. Then close MPT, and restart it, and see if that helps. It just means that another program/device is using the phones bluetooth. If that doesnt help, let me know and i can point u to some other possibilities.

EDIT: This is from Mark Venture's site -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V710_MPT_BT.htm
