While we're on the subject of MP3's, anyone find good deals on microSD cards?

I noticed at the Verizon store they were selling 2GB for $99.00 and 1GB for $52.00 - That doesn't seem like such a bad deal, however, that usually means you can buy them cheaper elsewhere.

Got mine from newegg.com, i think it was $40 +/-
    Ebay is a good place
I saw a post on HoFo that people could get the 1gb for 9.99 after like $40 mir
    I hate rebates tho

Either way, you cant use the 2gb on the v3m.

We found Kingston 1gb MicroSD cards at Buy.com last week for $19 and change each.
The way it broke down was including a Kingston rebate, a $20 Google Checkout deduction and free shipping.
I dont know if the deal is still on but we were happy.

They also had SanDisk 2gb Memory Stick PRO sticks with adapter for $18 after the dust settled on the rebates and $10 Google Checkout discount. We took them up on one of those too.

I've found 512MB cards on Ebay for as low as $16 w/ shipping and right around double that for the cheapest 1GB one. I figure I'll probably just get two 512MB cards, one for me and one for the wife. A friend of mine has the 512MB in his Samsung phone and says it'll hold close to 150 songs which is plenty for us.

There ya go. The Buy.com deal is the one we went with. I see they still have it going.
Also, good to know about just burning the program to a CD. Some of these types of services dont allow for that as you need an installer to go along with it that is online only.
Good to know I can burn it to CD. Now there isnt much of an excuse to not get it.

Yea, you are downloading the .exe. So I burned it and put it on my work and home computer. Works perfectly.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Does anyone know if the seem edit for classic ringers has changed?

I just got a replacement from asurion, my v3m got wet and died. I was stupid and didn't kill the power and dry it out right away when it got wet, oh well.

So of course I went in and seemed the new phone to get it close to the way my other one was before I actually start using it again. Just about every seem edit worked as before, except...

offset 0038 - I have checked and unchecked bits 1 2 and 3 and saved, restarted the phone multiple times but none of the native motorola ringers have come up. Previously this was about the easiest thing to get working. There is not one verizon ringtone that is even tolerable, every single one is embarassingly bad.

one thing I notice is that NONE of the descriptions are coming up in p2kseem, but like I said, all my edits are taking except for the native ringers. I wonder if verizon has done something else to lock them out, but I kind of doubt it. :headscrat

I guess I can just make my own ringtones in mpt, but this seem edit should have worked. If anyone else knows anything about this I'd be interested to know, in the meantime I'll keep messing with it.

    and the solution was.....

Just keep messing with it!!!! I finally got the native ringers back...and there was much rejoicing.

now I need to make sure I don't trash this phone again

You guys rock, I couldn't have gotten very far without this particular thread helping me. I love the interweb :D

When i finish editing the song into a ringtone i click save to my pc and it says "failed to create file". Also, i tried just sending it to my phone and it says "unsupported format". Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

This question is for anyone who has enabled the original motorola startup and shutdown animation. I read somewhere that if you enable this in the seem edit, that it just adds the original startup/shutdown animations to the verizon startup/shutdown animations, thus making startup and shutdown longer and not accomplishing the main goal of getting rid of the verizon startup/shutdown animations.

I have replaced the verizon animations with bitpim, but if I enable the motorola shartup and shutdowns I don't want to see both my chosen animation AND the motorola one, I just want the motorola one. Does anyone know how to fix this? Right now the only way I can think of is to overwrite the startup and shutdown in the phone with a black screen, and then enable the moto animations, so I don't have to see two different things at startup and shutdown, and so it won't delay the startup and shutdown any further. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Yea, there isnt any way that I am aware of to completely remove the Verizon startup/shutdown. I have even flashed to Alltel, and it keeps the Verizon animations there (it must be hard coded into the phone :(). Some have tried deleting the customer_opneing/closing.gif files in BitPim, but this only results in a still image in its place. I dont believe that u can completely remove it. Believe me, I want to as well. Id rather have just the Moto and no Verizon. Please let me know if u come across anything.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Well, I was thinking replacing the files in bitpim with a still picture of just a black background would do it, because I've heard of people putting just a random still picture of theirs and it shows for a couple seconds...

When I did the seem edits to enable the moto startup and shutdown animations, it was being really weird and didn't do the shutdown, and then would only do certain parts of the startup, like it was getting stuck and frozen and then started again. I got kinda freaked that I had messed something up so I undid the seem edits and left my phone alone.

Honestly it's not that big a deal since I basically NEVER turn my phone off, but it's just one more thing that bugs me about the phone. I wonder if verizon will ever get the clue that most everyone HATES the red bars/red theme they have going right now? Grr.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Oh, wanted to add one last thing I've observed.

In this threat peole have talked about how to do the seem edit to get rid of it saying Verizon Wireless on the front LCD and inside at the top. I had no idea what everyone was talking about because mine did not say that anywhere!! But I noticed that when turning the phone off and back on, it shows up for about ten seconds, but always goes away! So if I never turn my phone off and back on I NEVER see it say verizon, and even then, it reliably goes away in a few seconds.

I have to assume this is different on other phones since people have gone through the trouble of doing the seem edit to make it go away. Just thought it was strange that it was different on my phone. It's a brand new razr as of the beginning of December 06, maybe that has something to do with it. Although I'd never expect Verizon to do a change in the phone that caused LESS branding!

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Hi I have a Verizon RAZR v3m that i recently seem edited but i experienced problems while trying to load a java app to my phone. After unwittingly trying to enable java for the v3c (0032) I read somewhere that you cannot use java apps with the v3m because verizon uses brew. I was wondering if there is a way to enable java applets? I dont know what the The Java bits at offset 0060 are for but maybe someone can clarify all of this for me.

Currently, there is no java available for the Brew phones. Java can run on brew, but no one has done it yet. You need a JVM to run J2ME applications on top of Brew. IBM and Sun make the JVM's. There are a bunch of us trying to crack it. As of now, its still a waiting game. The Sprint V3M however uses Java :(

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

so there is no way to do anything to the phone to make it have java? I think some of the games in the Verizon store are java, if you can download and play those couldn't there be away to transfer java apps from a pc with motorola phone tools. Or is it that Brew encrypts data so it cant be downloaded too and from PC?

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Yep, some games are java from vzw. But u hit the nail on the head. Brew digitally signs each game for that specific phone. Even if u managed to download off the phone (usually u cant because the folder is locked) when u went to put it back on, it wouldnt get signed properly. I have been looking into figuring out how to add java on to the phone. The two enviornments (java and brew) can and do co-exist. We need a JVM that will run J2ME apps, the trick is getting the phone to accept the JVM. As soon as we crack it, it will definitely be posted.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

I just had to share the totally silly mistake I just made...

I got a microSD card off ebay and it FINALLY came today, so I stuck it in my phone, formatted it, and then plugged my phone into my computer to sync up some music. When I plugged in my phone I got a message that said "unauthorized charger." I freaked, thinking I'd messed up all of my previous work getting my computer and phone to talk to each other by putting in the memory card! I took it out, plugged my phone back in, and STILL got the message! Now I'm thinking I messed up the entire thing by putting the card in and it won't be fixed by taking it out. I tried my wall charger and it charged no prob, so when I went back to my computer... I realized the usb end of the cable was half falling out of the usb plug! Once I pushed it back in everything was FINE.

Phew. But I felt silly for thinking the silly little sd card messed up the connection when really the wire was falling out. All those times my phone tells me to check my connection I started ignoring it and stopped checking my connection! Hah.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Just found this seem edit at hacktherazr.com

    Disable V-cast Shutdown Animation
    2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 31 uncheck bit 0

It's labeled as "works" although some are labeled as "works" but doesn't mean "works completely." So, I don't know if this does what it says it does, and if so, we still need the seem edit for disabling the startup animation. Anyone want to give this a go?

I purchased my v3m yesterday and I also bought a memory card. I was able to transfer my songs and pictures with no problem. The only problem I am having is setting them as ringtones. They are whole songs. They play perfectly. I just can not use them as ringtones. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

You cant set them as ringtones on the card. They have to be stored on the phones memory. As u probably realized, there isnt much room on there for more than maybe 4 or 5 songs. Also, ringtones only really need to be 25-30 seconds b/c voicemail picks up after 30 seconds or so.

You need to use a program like Motorola Phone Tools to put mp3's in the "audio" folder.

So does that mean if I shorten a song and store it on the phone's memory in the audio folder it will work?

Yep, i mean, technically u can put the whole song in that folder, and it will work, its just a waste of space. The problem is you need a program that can access the phones "audio folder". BitPim cant access it b/c it is locked by Motorola. Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) can do this, but it costs about $25. The last option is P2Kcommander, but there are tons of steps included to do it, a reallll PITA.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

You should be able to access all the photo files through bitpim, they're in the shared directory, can't remember exactly where that is, maybe in the motorola directory? Some of them are .jpg and some are .ran, I don't know what file type that is. I deleted all the .jpg ones I didn't like (after backing them up on my comp just in case) through bitpim and they deleted no problem. I didn't touch the .ran ones or any of the other stuff in the folder that I didn't recognize the file type of. Got rid of all those annoying little "clipart" style pictures... sure is nice to not have to see those when browsing through my photos on my phone.
