You shouldn't disconnect the phone. You will also need to activate the usb file transfer seem if you want to take advantage of multimedia studio, which is the only reason to change the phone to V3cm.

Follow the instructions here for more information:

Thanks for the claification. I would have spent the money on the v3m for nothing. But, your remark gets me thinking then about the other carriers. If I got a cingular razr would I be able to do what you described in your (I'm pulling your leg) post? Hummmmmm. . .

Answer these questions before we figure out how to solve your problem:

    1) Have you done the USB file transfer seem yet?
    2) Have you succesfully connected to the phone w/ just the V3m profile?
    3) Have you tried to change the profile to V3cm while connected as the V3m profile?

I am using a 1gb microSD card and find that if I load too many songs on it it freezes My Music and Music Management on my Verizon V3m. The number is not an exact number of songs, as I have sucessfully worked with 112 songs. I suspect thers is a storage limit for songs at 512mb, even though the phone recognizes all the space available on the card. Does anyone know the particulars on this?

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

I wanted to thank everyone for their effort, research, and the stones to try the tweaks for their phone then publish the results and excellent directions..

I recently got a V3m silver, and was miffed the phone was a little crippled and Verizon’s available software is less than helpful.

After reading this particular thread (80% of it anyhow, god it’s long) and following the links, I was able to get the Seem program, Bitpm, and Motorola Phone Tools, with a total software cost of $23.00. I have been able to get all the seems to work, changes to the default power up and down, default pics, changes to the ringtones (make my own from anything) and ringers, and maintain all the user interface items (phonebook, calendar, …) on my PC.

My Phone works with the Windows Media Player, Bitpm, Seem, and MPT at will. I do occasionally have to either restart my pc (HP 1510, XP Media Center Edition 2005) or reinstall the Driver Tool – 421a to get everything to work.

If I could make any suggestion to those who have not tried anything yet, do all your seem changes first so you don’t have to go back in, Make your Bitpm changes, then rely on MPT or WMP to manage your music. This eliminates the need to keep convincing the computer that your phone is a USB device, Modem, or external piece of hardware depending on what program you are running.

If you see something in the thread that you want to try, write down the page and post # so you can find it again (I am still looking for a couple of things I wanted to do). Also read past a procedure to make sure that it was not a dead end or problems encountered (been there, done that).

    ALL HAIL THE GUINEA PIGS!!!:highclap:

Here is a .doc file that contains all the snap shots for SEEM'ing. (right-click, save-as)
    http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/a...-v3m-seem-snapshots-for-motorola-razr-v3m.doc

Here is a list of all the SEEMS that we know of. (right-click, save-as)
    http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/a...-razr-cdma-versions-v3c-v3m-seems-for-v3m.xls

    Here is some SEEM'ing instructions:
    Seeming Instructions.

    1.) Start MSU
    2.) connect phone to mini-usb
3.) connect usb to computer - when the ESN Number of your phone shows up, then you are connected. If MSU starts to update, let it.
4.) Minimize MSU, do NOT exit from MSU, it must be running in the background
    5.) Start P2k
    6.) Set the following fields:
    6a.) Bytes (h) = 0000
    6b.) Seem = 2742
    6c.) Record = 0001
7.) Click on 'load from phone' button
8.) click on 'save to file' button - it is always a good idea to 'backup' before you make changes. Give name of file if/when prompted.
9.) Use down/up/side arrows to scroll to the OFFSET you want
10.) Click on the Bit's box to turn it 'on' - checked or 'off' - unchecked.
11.) click on 'save to phone' button
Repeat steps 9, 10 and 11 to change all the SEEM's you want.
    12.) exit P2k
13.) Click on 'end' and then exit MSU
14.) disconnect cable from computer, then phone from mini-usb
15.) Then turn off phone for few seconds.

    You be done!
    Enjoy

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

Alright, I've been reading message boards for about a week. Finally got a V3m and have the transflash card. I have loaded with WMP10 onto my card songs in WMA format, phone is recognized when I sync and put songs directly onto my phone. Now I'm trying to use the flash card to carry ringtones. I've read about the record new and going that route, not working for me. I've read about cutting the songs and loading them directly, then change when on my phone, can't figure that out.

    Any thoughts??

Just got my Razr V3m and the Music essentials kit. I would love to be able to sync with outlook, what version of Motorola Phone tools do I need, is there a way to get a trial version?

Will this work with verizon phones?

You can buy it, with USB cable, from the link on the right side of www.motov3m.com for $29.99

This is about as cheap as it comes online, especially since it comes with a cable

Re: Using reingers and other MP3's in transflash memory...

    Hello,

I've had a V3m for 2 weeks and have successfully done all the mods of interest to me that everyone here has so gratiously shared. I do have a few questions remaining...

    1. what is the actual storage capacity on the V3m itself? I get different accounting of approx 20mb vs. 40mb depending on whether I look in system information in the tools menu or in Get it Now info. Also, how is internal memory allocated? i.e. xxmb for media, xxmb for system, etc.

    2. I installed a 512mb transflash and did this mod... http://www.motov3m.com/tiki-index.php?page=Locations for changing the default location of pix and flix. I have successfully managed to change my storage location for snapshots and movies from the phone to the transflash directories I created for my_pix and my_flix. That mod also specifies creating a directory called my_audio. Since there is a default directory created on the transflash before the mod named my_music, I assume my_audio was intended to be used for ringers. The only way I can figure to upload ringers to the phone is using the ringer upload features in MPT or Bitpim. In either case, those ringers are moved to the phone's internal memory and there does not appear to be an option for storing them on the transflash. If I use bitpim or MPT file xfer studio to place mp3's in the my_audio directory on the transflash, they are not catalogued or recognized by the phone. I did notice and perform the seem edit to enable the "Transflash Copy/Move option" but I do not know if this seem had anything to do with moving catalogued media stored in internal phone memory to transflash directories. Has anyone figured anything out related to this?

    Thanks JC

Straight from the V3M Specifications manual.

Memory 30 MB (built-in, flash shared memory)

I guess its sad when you open an internet forum to learn about your new phone before reading the manual that came with it. now putting foot in mouth. any perspective on the transflash audio storage?

I am not going to be much help here, but I do remember reading that in order for the phone to use a ringtone, it MUST be on the phone, not SD card, so it can load it into memory.

Re: Using reingers and other MP3's in transflash memory...

Does the manual say anything about the format and resolution requirment for audio files to be playable on the phone? i.e. mp3, wma, wav and 16bit, 44khx, etc?

So basically, based on what's been discovered so far, I can not use MPT or Bitpim USB file xfer to put an audio file directly in a directory on my phone memory or transflash and then play the audio file on the phone? i.e. if I want to use audio on the phone, I either need to upload it to phone memory as a ringtone or go through the procedure of sync music files with WMP10.

Also, any idea of what that my_audio directory is for in the wiki default location mod?

    thx - JC

Re: Using reingers and other MP3's in transflash memory...

I think it only applies to ringtones. The phone loads ringtones into memory, so it has to be on the phone.

Everything else like music, movies, etc... can work either from the phone or SD card.

Do not know what the my_audio directory is for in the wiki. Sorry.

    Inside LCD display:
    Type: LCD (Color TFT/TFD)
    Colors: 65,536 (16-bit)
    Size: 176 x 220 pixels

    Outside LCD display:
    Location: Front
    65,000-color STN display / 96 x 80 pixels

    Polyphonic Ringtones
    Chords: 72

    Music Player
    Supported Formats: MP3, AAC (carrier-dependent)

    More coming.

Re: Using reingers and other MP3's in transflash memory...

    Ring tones information.

    The V3M supports:
General Midi (polyphonic), iMelody (monophonic), MP3 files and Yamaha SMAF format .MMF files as ringers. Files to be used as ringers must exist in the phone's memory. VZW phones, the ringer only plays for about 25 to 30 seconds before the call is sent to voice mail. If the phone is set to Vibrate then Ring, the play time will be even less. So, save phone space, and trim your files down to be 30 seconds or less.

For ring tones from MP3 files:
While any MP3 file should work, it is best if the ringer is a Constant Bit Rate (CBR), Mpeg 1.0 Layer 3, 20 to 25 seconds as a maximum Length and no ID3 tag. The best balance for file size, quality and compatibility use 48kbits/44kHz/Mono.

    Renaming .MP3 to .MID:
Go into Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab. Find the box for "hide extensions for known file types" and remove the the check mark prior to trying to rename the file. Failure to do so will result in Mytone.MP3 being renamed as Mytone.mid.mp3 and the phone will receive it as a .QCP file which can NOT be used as a ring tone. Removing that check, mytone.mp3 will be properly renamed to mytone.mid. Be sure to set the check back after you are finished.

Renaming is not the same as "Converting" or "making the MP3 into .MID" and you may be disappointed in the sound quality.

    Hope all this helps, some.

Re: Using reingers and other MP3's in transflash memory...

First, thank you for your prompt replies. Second, I tried just placing a mp3 music file meeting the specs you posted in the phone's memory and on the SD card in the My_Music and My_Audio directories. I transfered them using usb + MPT and/or Bitpim. Jpg pictures transfered the same way were able to be viewed, but the audio files were not available as either a ringer or in My Music get it now menu. So how do I acces music files stored in these directories?

    Thanks!

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

The V3m is setup to work as a multi-media phone, the V3c is not.

The V3m allows you to buy a tansFlash SD card to put music, movies, etc... on, the V3c does not.

The V3m allows you to watch movies on it, was told the V3c does not, especially if the are BIG movies, hence the SD card (up to 1gig) for the V3m.

I had the same option as you, V3c/V3m, at the time and I got the V3m.

Battery life on both of them S-U-C-K-S, especially if you make a lot of phone calls, play a lot of music or watch movies, so you need to get a second battery or an extended battery. I got both.

You will also need to get a usb-mini to usb cable, so your computer can also charge the battery while you are at the computer. The usb-mini cable will also be needed so you can add/change/update items on your phone.

Best bet is to buy Motorola Phone Tools with BONUS CD. It comes with a cable and has functions that allow you to change the V3m phone, add music, movies, ringtones, etc..., that you would not normally be able to do without going through a lot of trouble.

Hope all that rambling helps you out. Anymore questions, just ask.

Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

I know there is a lot of good info in this post and to read it all is very advantageous. I wish I had the time. I went through this with my V710 a year and a half ago. At that time to unlock my phone really only boiled down to using Bitpim to delete the system pictures and pk2seem to unlock features. It took me just a few minutes to do all this but weeks to learn what to do and what software I needed. I don't have the time to do this with my Razr V3m. What is MSU and where do I get it? Do I need a different pk2seem program and where do I get it? What do I edit in seem 2742 to enable my transflash and alow for my own pictures and ringtones. The rest I can figure out.

Finally, does anyone know how or were to download something to enable the vz navigator? Since it is a subscription througt "get it now", I would assume that it is the only way for verizon to charge for this service. So consiquently it can be used for free since the hardware is in my phone.
