    Re: RAZR V3m

Hope this helps some of you to verify if Motorola USB Modem driver is installed.

    Option I
    from Windows
Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and Other Hardware -> Phone and Modem Options -> Modems

If Motorola USB modem is installed, it will be listed here. Also if there is a com# listed under 'Attached to', that means a program is using the driver.

    Option II
Start BitPim - you do not have to have phone connected
    Click on Edit
Click on Setting - 'BitPim Setting' window will display
Click on Browse button located to the right of 'Com Port'
'Choose a comm port' window will display

If Motorola USB modem is installed, it will be listed here.

    Re: RAZR V3m

BitPim is another tool that will allow you to work with the phone's phonebook, images, sound, ringers, calendar, memo, todo, sms features, call history features and play list.

Some use it as a way to 'backup' the phone. Some use it to redo the phone's settings.

Some prefer BitPim over MPT. Some use in conjucntion.

You need to check it out.

    Re: RAZR V3m

    New Wiki for V3m

Due to the clear demand for organization of the knowledge in this forum, I have created a Wiki to organize info about the V3m.

This wiki can be found at: http://www.motov3m.com

I have already started to put some info into it, but frankly I haven't had enough time to sit down and reproduce everything that is in this forum. For that reason, I am opening it up to people who post to this forum to add info to the site, so that we can have one place to refer people when a question is asked, instead of having to repeat the same info endlessly, or postback to fragmented threads that are hard to read.

For info on using the Wiki, you can go here:
    http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page_ref_id=22

I have made viewing available to all -- in order to post you have to register (see the small link under the login box on the right).
You just create username, pass and enter your email, and you are registered.

In addition to the Wiki, there are Image Galleries for organizing wallpapers, and other images. Those who register can create new Image Galleries as well.

There is also a forum where you can post files and questions.

    Thanks,

    Jon

P.S. Please don't abuse the file uploading features

    Re: RAZR V3m

First off thanks for all of the help you guys post as well as those that sent me PMs and emails with words of advice.
I would like to ask two questions if you don't mind
1.) I can get the phone to be recognized as a USB modem, I believe that when it syncs (at that point) it should be recognized as a USB device which will state V3c. I don't have the proper drivers for this setup as it has an exlamation point over this. Can someone point me to the correct drivers that won't screw up the modem part but allow the computer to recognize the phone when I turn it on and sync it?

2.) To use the various programs MPT, bitpim etc does the phone need to be recognized as a usb modem or a usb (V3c) device? Okay an easy third question when using those programs should the phone be on or off for it to recognize it as I can't get bitpim to see my phone.

    be careful!!!
I wouldn't recommend doing anything you don't know for sure what it's going to do....hehe. you risk bricking the phone.

The following file is a 'complete' write up on installing BitPim, verifying the drivers through BitPim, connecting your phone (V3m) via BitPim and downloading your phones info to BitPim.

View attachment Install & Setting Up BitPim with V3m.doc

rosenjon: check this out and see if would be alright for the wiki site.

Oh, almost forgot, it is complete with screen shots!!

    Re: RAZR V3m

just when i thought i had everything settled...

Now, P2K wont connect half the time and bitpim wont see my modem as available at all!

Does anyone know of a way to completely start from scratch? I ran drivertool like 10 times already.

Even MPT is giving me issues.

I tried to install some ringtone making software and thats when everything got messed up. Other things went also like some drivers needed to make MP3's.

Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

    Re: RAZR V3m

guys i just bought my phone today, and didn't really know alot about what this phone could do... the biggest thing that I wanted was my mp3's as ring tones. I knew this phone could download mp3's to it, but couldn't figure it out... stumbled on this forum, and have been reading it since 6 and trying things out... currently 12:30. I never got the sync through mp10 working yet, probably an issue between using mp11 and mp10... oh well... i'll format my computer and probably get that working again. but anyway, i think i read that mp3's from wmp10 couldn't be ringtones... kept reading.... then learned about bitpim. couldn't get it working and kept on... started to get mpt, but during the install, read about "unlocking" the media functions on this phone... did that, and using bitpim i now have my own custom ringtones without having to pay for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES YES YES YES YES {jumping up and down with joy} since bitpim works for me, i'm not going to d/l mtp, but I want to thank everyone for helping me!!!!!!!!

    Re: RAZR V3m

That walkthrough is sweet. I will try to upload to wiki within next few days if no one else gets a chance.

As a sidenote, depending on what computer I use BitPim on, the phone will sometimes show up under Inoperable Ports more often. It seems like on certain computers the driver gets stuck and won't allow BitPim access, especially after using MPT. However, on other computers, it seems to release it from the port every time. Still not sure if there is a manual way to release the driver from the Inoperable Ports section of BitPim.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Thanks for the sweets on the walkthru :)

Look at post 573 - Option I and Option II.

I did an experiment to get the results of those Options.

I started MPT and connected my phone then performed Option I.
When a program is using/accessing the Motorola USB Modem driver, "there is a com# listed under 'Attached to' ".

For BitPim, under Option II, the driver will be listed in the "Inoperable Ports" section.

Good rule of thumb is to perform Option I or II to see if it already being accessed/used. If it is and you are not running a program to access the phone, reboot your computer.

I've had to do this a couple of times now.

    Re: RAZR V3m

rwsrichard -- that would be awesome.

I added a toolbar to the wiki called "quickedit" which shows up when you log-in. If you want to create a new page, just type the name of the new page into the quick edit box (no spaces in name), hit the edit button, enter the text for the wiki page into the new page's edit box, and click save. This will save a new wiki page with the desired text.

I you want to link to your new page from the home page, or any other wiki page, edit the home page and put in ((nameofwikipage|Hyperlinkdescriptiontext))

and you will get a hyperlink to your new page

    Re: RAZR V3m

Ok After struggling for half the day I now have no probs transferring music using wmp10. I also got bitpim working but it doesn't seem to do a whole lot for me. You can't add anything but it seems like i can edit preexisting wallpapers with what I want. I took a pic with the camera phone then edited it on pc to a good photo and uploaded no probs. I also d/l my contacts but thats about it. Now I'm on to p2kman and p2kcommander. I got both installed and it shows that my phone is connected, but everytime I try to look into the phone it just says that the volume name fails. I tried some searching around but don't seem to be able to find an answer for this.

    Any help would be great!

    Re: RAZR V3m

Happy RAZR V3M owner (now that my RAZR is free from Verizon's grip).

    Seem edit for MPT successful!

Q1: Has anyone here tried seem edit: Menu: Java App Loader - 0043, if so, have you been able to load and run Java Apps?

Q2: Has anyone been able to re-map the home (up,down, left, right) keys? If so, how?

    Re: RAZR V3m

CPTBreaker: In response to your questions:

#1) Java App Loader does not work for me. Or, to be more specific, I don't see any new menu options when I activate this feature. It is possible that due to Verizon's proprieatary menu, that this is in fact a feature, but they have no menu option to access it. It is also possible that you have to activate multiple Java seems before you get the menu. I have activated a few, but there were some having to do with Java DNS, etc that I didn't try to activate. It is possible if you activate all of them then maybe the menu will show up. However, the more likely possibility, as I understand it, is that Verizon has replaced Java with Brew, and so Java cannot be activated.

I have found an "App Execution Policy" option in the Engineering Menu, which possibly might let you change the type of BREW apps that are run (perhaps allowing unsigned BREW apps?). However, I haven't had time to mess with this enough to know. Next weekend I will try to find some time to explore this in more depth.

#2) As far as remapping the home keys, I have not been able to do this. I assume that you know that you can assign one of the home keys to a variety of different options (but not enough options in my opinion). Other than that, I have not seen anything yet on remapping the home keys extensively. I would love to be able to remap one directly for the mp3 player though, and another for the Calendar, neither or which is currently an option. Sometimes I think the people at Verizon challenge their engineers to cripple the phone as badly as possible. After all, what possible reason would they have for reducing home key functionality? You might have to skip over their VCast options on your way to your mp3 player?

When you open p2k you have to change the #'s as follows:
    "Seem" 2742, "Record" 1, "Bytes (h)" 0

Do you have Motorola Phone Tools???

    Re: RAZR V3m

Ok, so all of the seem edits I have tried so far have worked perfectly except for this one...

    Offset 007d, bit 5 - on, Changes backlight times to 20, 40, 60, seconds

After enabling this bit, the menu did show backlight time options of 20, 40, and 60 seconds, but the backlight only actually stayed on for 5, 10, or 20 seconds respectively.

In other words, after the edit, when I chose "40 seconds" on the menu, the light actually turned off after 10 seconds. When I chose "60 seconds" on the menu, the light would only actually stay on fro 20 seconds.

Has anyone successfully changed the seem (and verified the actual times) to enable this option? Is there another bit that needs to be modified?

    Re: RAZR V3m

RedDawn: That would be awesome. The whole point of the wiki is to have a place for stuff like that organized into some fashion, so you can just give people a link. Also, these forums seem to take down pictures after a while, so it will provide a more stable place to post that stuff.

Also, just to clarify, when I said earlier not to abuse the file uploading, I just meant don't upload your term paper, or non-v3m related stuff to the site. You can upload as much v3m related media as you want.

    Thanks,

    Jon

If there is a 2nd bit, it should be on that same seem.

I will look at it next time I seem. I want that option too.
