    Re: RAZR V3m

Spearhead -- will you please post step by step instructions on how you transferred contacts to and from the V3m using Bitpim? I have not been able to figure out how to get this to work yet, and it is high on my priority list, and Im sure high on others as well, since paying Verizon a monthly fee to do it over the Internet is not on my agenda. Please post the version of BitPim you are using, along with the Moto driver, etc.

In reply to dirtysanchez, I think that you might need Windows Media Player 10 in order to get this stuff to work. This seems ridiculous, but that is Microsoft for you. While I have not tried WMP 11 with this phone, I had a SanDisk mp3 player (that I returned) which would only sync playlists with Windows Media 10, but would not work with WMP 11. I am guessing this might be the case with this device as well. I would try installing WMP 10 and trying that first before concluding that it doesnt work.

As far as "doing something about" Verizon's lame crippling of their phones, I don't think that there is much you can do. Money talks -- and they are making a boat load of money selling proprietary software/accessories that only work with their phones. Every BREW game/ringtone/video you buy reinforces for them the logic of this business model. The only way it would stop is if everyone boycotted at once, and unfortunately I don't think enough people care about these features to make too much of a difference.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Well, did anyone ever hear of how verizon got sued for the V710 in a class action lawsuit? They had to offer up credit to anyone who got the phone within a certain period because they didnt disclose that certain features were disabled. Most bluetooth.

You guys wont believe this. After I installed MPT, the first thing i did was click on multimedia center and it came up:eek: ! Now it highlights but when i click nothing happens. I know you might not believe me, but it did come up! I installed my phone as a V3cm due to the lack of V3m. Theres gotta be a way to get it back...

One thing i have to suggest to anyone having issues with WMP10 syncing music is to follow audio's guide from way earlier in this thread. and MAKE SURE you go through the menu on the phone to sync, i wasnt doing that for a while, i thought the computer would instantly recognize the phone.

one upside to this phone so far is that i get reception where i work! I around MASSIVE amounts of satellites the send out about 50 television networks and everything normally gets killed in my building as far as cell reception.

    I am using bitpim 0.9.04
Driver for v3m is from drivertool. When I used an ealier version I downloaded here, Bitpim couldn't talk to v3m. Then I upgraded the driver, everything work fine.
As for the contact, click the button "Get phone data" to download contact from v3m. After finishing edit contact, click button "send phone data" to upload.
Rosenjon, which driver are you using right now?

Mobile Office Kit from Verizon and the V3m:

I just got off the phone with Verizon, because they sold me the Mobile Office Kit, which contains Quicklink Mobile Phonebook, but which doesn't work with the V3m. The installer says that it is not compatible with the v3m phone.

The packaging says that the kit is compatible with the RAZR v3c and the v325, so I can perhaps see how this kit would not be compatible. However, when I search online, people seem to be selling the v3c kit as being comatible with the v3m, so I am wondering whether there is a seperate kit for the v3m being produced right now.

The rep I spoke to said that I didn't have the latest version of Quicklink Mobile Phonebook. The version on my CD is 3.5.3 (1303c), however he said that I need 3.6.2, which is what the people at SmithMicro told him was required for the v3m.

I seriously doubt that Verizon even has this version of the software for sale right now, but perhaps I am wrong. Can anyone confirm whether they have bought a kit specifically for the v3m, and whether Quicklink works with their phone?

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Re: RAZR V3m

Sorry very much a newb question here

Got the V3m phone and a microSD card.
Took an mp3 file and converted it to wma format with windows MP 10
synced this with my microSD card and then put the card in the phone. I then go to Get Tunes and Tones then Manage Music then down to 7. Play All and then I get a blue/white box that says PLAYER ERROR Music is not available.
Why can everyone else get this to work but me??
Frustrated I called verizon they told me that I must have a newer V3m phone that won't allow this as there could be copyright infringement from just copying it but if I buy there kit for 30 bucks then it will be fine????
The guy acted like he knew what he was talking about but I haven't seen anyone else with that problem

    Any help appreciated.

    Re: RAZR V3m

I do not know, when you sync WMP10 with microSD card where it puts your files. So, try to do the following:
    1) Format SD card in with the phone, plug it into PC (in explorer you will see one of the folder named MY_MUSIC).
    2) Downoad the following software if you do not have any like this yet:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/bonuspack/default.aspx
    or
    http://files.brothersoft.com/freeware/mp3-to-wma.exe
They will allow to you creat wma file and put them into separate folder.
Copy/move wma file to MY_MUSIC folder in SD card.
PLug the card back to the phone and repeat steps to play the music.
    Good luck.

did sync with the card in the card reader.
I didn't buy the cables as I didn't want to stink more money into the phone if I didn't have to. But if I have to I will, I just read about all of the problems and didn't mind taking the card in and out as I have a 1gb card.

    Thanks

    Re: RAZR V3m

Just as a follow up I got it working.
Here is the wierd thing that I havent seen pointed out yet perhaps there is a rule about this I was unaware.
The file I was trying to use was:
The Blues Brothers - 05 - Everybody Needs Somebody To Love.wma
I would load it into the disk and it wouldn't work.
XxZecKxX was kind enough to send me one of his files which did work
So I shortened my files name to just:
Everybody Needs Somebody To Love.wma and it worked

Anybody know why is there a character limit?
Does my phone have something against the Blues Brothers?

    Thanks again XxZecKxX

    Re: RAZR V3m

Can anyone help me out with getting my phone to work with bitpim?

I can sync with MP10 and MPT just fine. So I imagine my drivers are cool.

The problem with bitpim is that i get exceptions when I try to retreive data from my phone. Does anyone know any specific step I might be overlooking that isnt obvious? Should the phone be on or off?

    Re: RAZR V3m

The file name limitation for V3m is only 32 characters (extension not included) and bitrate should not be more than 192KB/s.
So, you phone definitelly does not like "Blues Brothers". Or "Somebody To Love"? :)

    TADAH!!!!!!

Reinstalled the MPT 4.0 software, read/followed the instructions on the screen. I let the software upgrade itself to the newest version. THIS time I let the software download and then I clicked on install once it finished downloading BEFORE I did anything else.

Note that during this process, the MPT keep asking me to pick a phone-style for my phone, but I ignored it. After the update finished installing, I clicked on yes to restart my system, even though I was still being prompted to pick a phone-style for my phone or use the Default Style.

When the system finished rebooting, I clicked on the MPT icon to activate the software. Then I created a new phone-style. Followed the prompts and since it could not FIND my phone I picked CDMA and then the V3cm from the drivers list it provided.

The phone icon came up on the desktop and said to standby while it initializes the phone. After about 1 minute, it stopped initializing and showed EVERY option available.

I was able to work in the phonebook, the calendar and then I clicked on the Multimedia Studio icon and was able to upload music, movies, ringtones to the phone and download from the phone.

    FANTASTIC!!!!!!

One observation I made. I left the phone plugged into the USB port and closed desktop phone icon. Then I did a jig across the floor, sat down and drank a couple of cool ones. When I came back and clicked on the MPT icon to activate it again, I got paniky, because it said it could not find my phone. So I closed everything out and unplugged the phone from the USB port. Then when I clicked on the MPT icon, it said my phone was not found and/or not connected to the PC. Now I plugged it in and everything started working again.

    Re: RAZR V3m

rwsrichard beat me to the punch on this one. I have been messing around for a while today trying to find the best way to sync contacts, calendar, etc with v3m. Moto Phone Tools is by far the best way. As rwsrichard said, you download v4 of Moto Phone Tools, allow it to update itself, then plugin the phone. Uninstall any drivers for the V3m that you currently have installed, or it seems to not be able to recognize the phone. Then, plugin the phone, and the Moto phone recognizer should be able to find your phone and install it. From there, everything works great as far as calendar sync, contact sync, etc.

Windows Media can now sync music, Moto Phone Tools can sync with Outlook, and that means that I will probably keep this phone, since it is quite functional with these additions. As far as Verizon is concerned, don't buy their Mobile Office Kit, it is worthless. You can download their Network Access client for free off the internet, and the phone book software they bundle with the MOK is not compatible with the v3m out of the box. I made a point of returning it just because I was so pissed about this, even though I needed the usb to mini usb cable. I went to CompUsa and bought an OEM cable instead, which works fine for any syncing with the phone, including charging. Had Verizon been smart enough to bundle Moto Phone Tools with this kit, I probably would have kept it. However, it seems that many things about their launch of this phone has been poorly planned, as the documentation for contact sync, etc is horrible, thus the length of this thread.

I should note that I have also succesfully copied video files off of the phone using BitPim's file browser.

It should be noted that seem edits are not necessary to do contact/calendar transfer, music synching, and copying of videos/music as long as you have Moto Phone Tools. I am going to look into other features like sending ringtones to the phone in the near future, and hopefully that can be accomplished without seem edits as well. If Verizon is out there listening, why don't you sell Moto Phone Tools with the Mobile Office Kit? This is by far the best way to sync it seems, and you could save your customers a lot of aggravations. I, for one, was not too pleased to buy a "Mobile Office Kit" that didn't let me sync any information between my phone and computer, and which included as its only useful piece of software (the broadband connection through the phone) something that can be downloaded for free.

    Re: RAZR V3m

This is in response to the posts about adding music via direct transfer to the transflash card. While this was the way that I added music originally, it is kind of a pain, as it is pretty easy to have WMP 10 convert your music on the fly and send it to the phone. This also prevents songs from not showing up if they aren't the right form of Windows Media file (I think they need to have been processed in a certain way to show up on the phone). WMP makes sure they are compatible when they are placed onto the phone. This method is also much more convenient, as removing the card from the phone is a pain, since it requires battery removal.

On another note, I would be interested to see if anyone has found a way to sync playlists to the phone, as this is something that is needed. When I sync a playlist using WMP 10, it doesnt show up on the phone, so I have to use the phone itself to recreate the playlist, which is tedious.

The sw on my phone is NEWC_01.05.0A

If your sw is not set to this, see if your Verizon dealer can set it to that and then try MPT again.

While I have everything running, I tried MPT a number of times using every cable, that is mini-usb to full size usb, that I could get a hold of and it did not matter which one I used. They all worked without any problems.

BitPim does detect the phone and i was able to overwrite a file in the filesystem. Anybody else get this when trying this. I've tried setting it to V3c and V3cm...

Disconnect the phone and install following driver:
    http://www.bvrp.com/Customers/Motorola/DriverTool.zip
This driver much newer and support higher speed while you are in Modem mode. It will uninstall all old drivers and install new one. Do not panic if it will show V3c phone. During installation let XP to find the best driver (default).
When you are done, plug your phone back and make sure in device manager you got new device Motorola USB Modem. If so, try to use BitPim again.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Well, I'm making progress. I think I messed up my system by trying to get things to work, so (because it is a system that basically does nothing but check web sites - that's it) I did a system roll back to before I started working on all this. I found a web site:

    http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V710_BitPim.htm

and followed the three steps to getting bitpim to work. I was able to see the complete file system. Occasionally I needed to "redo" the connection, but then everything was fine. The only driver I installed was BVRP's DriverTool, and I only installed it once. I then followed the directions exatctly as written and I was able to download all my Flix and Pix. I have not installed the MTPfix.exe and have MPT on order. I think I will leave things as they are till my MPT comes in. I will try and write some pix and maybe a ringtone to the phone and see what happens.

As a side note, my software version is NEWC_01.05.0A.

Just as a side note, the above link is only one page in a site that is full of (I think) very useful stuff for all of us using the v3m.

musicarr and I have our phones working now. Could it be that the version of software that some of you have needs to be upgraded to get yours to work also?

    Would not hurt to check.
