    Re: RAZR V3m

I guess whether it's worth it is up to you.
Yes, you can save the original seems and then reload them if you don't like it. Pretty easy to do. I would say you should and then get Motorola Phone Tools Working. There are lots of guides on forums and the seem edits available. There are only between 6-10 you might want to try. PST runs in the background when you use P2KC and P2KSeem. Not sure all the tech stuff but it just works. The only thing you really don't want to try is the change a skin or theme on a V3m. Everything else easy!

Correct if you try and change them it will mess up the menus. When I did it it disable the right soft key and the center button. Even when I tried to undo the change it could not be fixed. The seem edits are easy to do and undo. Just take your time.

Thats where the seem hacks come in. I have yet had the time to play with the three progs required to do this. People have been posting this is required to do any type of transfer to your phone other then the transfer of .wmas in WMP10.

ARRGGHHHH!! I just got back from the verizon place. I was going over there to complain about why we need to subscribe to their vcast service to use the cool aspects of our phones, it should be illegal to block usage of certain aspects from phones that arent even made by them, but by Motorola. All I got however, was a bunch of idiots with stupid responses. The girl that was supposedly "helping me" didnt even know that modern cellphones had the ability to even play mp3s or transfer files to a pc. How wrong is it that a Verizon employee would not even know that? That a person who works at a verizon wireless store doesnt even know that makes me incredibly angry/confused.

I really understand your fustration. I started this thread to get some feedback on the Motorola V3m. I keep reading feedback about these problems transferring music to the phone. I still waiting to see if Verizon fixed the problem because personally, I don't want to be aggravated trying to work transferring music to a phone!

    Re: RAZR V3m

the stuff that cable & it's extra software allows you to do, is all available via seem edits. (and seem editing isn't that hard. Just remember to backup before you start.)
The reason I think this phone rocks, is that the cable is standard. I have like dozens of this cable for all kinds of devices I've had over the years, chip reader's, external uSb hubs, MP3 devices.. digital camera's.. TON's!

With the software p2kcommander, you can upload mp3's renamed to .mid (30 seconds or less) and get them to be used by your as ringtones! or you can email to your number@vzwpix.com

The trick to mp3's on this phone, is even if you DL them with software, the phone is locked so it won't play files with mp3 extension. Infact, it databases your synced music (i think it's a verizon "bad thing") and will erase mp3's. BUT! mp3 files renamed as .mid extension's, they will be allowed. (I have to remeber to put this up when I make a site dedicated to this phone) But using the base software, you cannot transfer .MID files to the phone, from a chip YES. please, any one want to help me put together a FAQ.. or ultimate guide even for the v3m. PM me. I have webspace & bandwidth till the end of china.

    Re: RAZR V3m

I got into my phone. Yeah! But... it's not very stable. Here is what I do. Maybe I'm not doing this right. I plug the phone in. Then I start PST. Then I start p2kcommander. I wait for a bubble from the tray to tell my the phone has been switched to p2k mode. Then I tell p2k to get the phone contents. This works most of the time, but usually after a few transfers from the phone to the computer p2k freezes up and I sometimes have to unplug the computer just to get things to connect again.

Does this sound right? Is there a setting somewhere that I have set wrong?

I've orderd the Motorola Phone Tools (4.0) and maybe that will help piece this puzzle together. Maybe there is some seem editing that needs to be done, but I can't "seem" to figure that out.

Any ideas on the transfer freezing anyone?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Re: RAZR V3m

Verizon sells a headset adapter for the phone with the capability to answer calls when listening to the mp3 player. It is a little clunky, since the 1.8mm plug has the mini-usb one its other end, and then you plug the stereo headset converter into that, and then your headphones into the stereo headphone converter. However, it basically just makes one long cord, with a little black piece attached that lets you answer calls, and listen to calls through the headphones. This way you can use whatever headphones you want with the phone, although if they make usb headphones, that might be more elegant, with the exception of lack of mic support for answering calls.

    Re: RAZR V3m

There are instructions spread around this post for setting up your phone with Windows Media Player, using a mini-USB to USB cable. However, I found that the correct information was spread across multiple posts, so here is a concise setup procedure for how to make this work:

    1) If you have installed any other drivers for your Motorola V3m, uninstall them.
    2) Turn off your phone
    3) Download these drivers: http://swanlake5315.com/wixtrix/v3mdriver.rar
    4) Unrar the drivers (use WinRar if you don't have an appropriate program)
    5) With your phone still off, plug in your phone to the computer - When it asks you if you want to auto install the drivers select "No, not this time"
    6) You will then be asked if you want to install automatically, or to select the driver to install - choose the option to select the driver
    7) Browse to where you unrared the driver from the link in step 3
    8) Choose this driver, and click Yes to any warnings about unsigned drivers
    9) Run Windows Media Player 10 and check for updates to see if you have the latest version
    10) Run the Media Player fix from Motorola: http://promo.motorola.com/exe/mtpfix.exe

Now your phone will be setup properly. In order to sync with Windows Media Player:
    1) Turn your phone on
    2) Browse to the "Get Tunes and Tones Menu" on your phone
    3) Select "Sync Music"
    4) Your phone should now connect to the computer and indicate that it has connected succesfully
    5) You will see your phone under the Sync tab in Windows Media Player

    Re: RAZR V3m

Excellent, Lets progress this thread a little bit. We are all able to listen to music no problem, download via usb from the computer, all that and I have a microSD.

So I have no head phones, but is it true that the sound is mono through headphones? Also has anyone tried to listen to music using a bluetooth enabled hands free headset? Can you listen to music and answer calls using bluetooth. Any info on this would be great!

So now that I have the music thing taken care of. Is there a way to download photos and/or video to the microSD card and have the phone read it. What file types for these media does this phone support?

Anyone have any ideas on this kind or stuff?

    Re: RAZR V3m

I have been doing some research into these questions. I have succesfully been able to browse the phones file structure with BitPim, per the previous posts, but not all the BitPim features work, like calendar sync, etc. I am not certain what it will take to get these features to work correctly, but I do know that currently the program produces errors when you try to sync this type of data.

I also do not have a copy of Motorola Phone Tools, so I have not yet been able to test out contact syncing. I am assuming this is possible with this software, but I am annoyed that the $40 software I bought from Verizon doesn't work, as the salesperson at the store said that it would. Clearly, this software needs to be fixed by Verizon to work with the V3m, which doesn't seem like it should be too difficult of a task.

As for the bluetooth headset, I would also like to know if this works with the phone. So far, I think that the audio coming out of the phone is in stereo, but I haven't tested this out to see whether it is the case.

I am tryin gti figure out if it is worth getting all those pieces to have a long cord, since this phone is bluetooth enabled. Have you tried to listen to music and answer calls using bluetooth?

How did you get bitpim to talk to your phone. I've tried and had no success. What settings did you use? I am able to sync with WMP to get the music thing worked out, but would like to get bitpim working, too.

    Thanks,

Found this on another forum at this site.

If you use Firefox browser, you can get your minutes/usage and other info displayed in/on the browser while you are surfing.

I do not use Firefox, so I am afraid that I cannot vouch for it. But I might give it a try just to see what it is like.

You can view/read information and get the file at this site:

I have a V3m with a bluetooth head set to be exact it is the Motorola H500...i hate to say this but the bluetooth head set does NOT play the music throught the headset, when u are scrolling throught the menus and options u can hear the sounds BUT once u get into that VCAST program that plays the music it will kick off the headset and play throught the phone speaker. Once u exit the vcast app. it will go back to the headset. It just might be the headset that i have...Who knows?

    Re: RAZR V3m

You can download the latest stable release of BitPim at:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=75211&package_id=75636&release_id=428214

Once you have downloaded and installed BitPim, setup your phone with drivers as I explained in my recent post, with the Windows Media Player config being optional obviosuly.

How to look at file structure in BitPim and get phone info:
    1) Open up BitPim
    2) Go to Edit..Settings
    3) For phone type, select V3cm
    For com port, select auto

    Save these settings

Then in BitPim, click on Edit....Phone Info
If the correct information about your phone is displayed (and the phone should make a beep noise), you will know that it is working correctly.

Once you can get BitPim to show info about your phone, go to the BitPim Main Menu (You will see Phone, which has submenus like Phonebook, Media, etc) and there will also be a Filesystem option. Click on the Filesystem option. This will allow you to browse the phone file system, although some directories dont seem to display anything. However, you should be able to see the files in the main phone directory.

This is as far as I have gotten with this phone and BitPim. I have not tried modding the phone in any way, just connecting to it and viewing its directory tree. Hopefully with some more research, I can figure out how to sync my calendar and contacts with the phone, at which point I can return the $40 useless Verizon software that doesn't allow me to sync contacts.

    Re: RAZR V3m

excellent. I will try that tonight. Do you know if BitPim has to be installed before the drivers? I have all the drivers working and talking with WMP and the phone and everything. If I just install BitPim and open it it should recognize the phone?

    Re: RAZR V3m

I was able to download and upload contacts between pc and v3m using bitpim.
Verizon lock the audio folder so when you try to access that folder, bitpim will complain. It's annoying since all the ringtones and the things you recorded are in this folder.
However, the pix folder is not locked, I was able to get pictures from v3m.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Hi everyone. I just got my phone yesterday i've been trying to get it up and running ever since. I've tried everything that yall have suggested. I have a question though...

Does the V3m work on Windows Vista and Windows Media Player 11???

i just thought that that might be the problem, it recognizes it as a modem and everything, it all goes well, i even installed the V cast music software. the problem comes whenever i hook it up, it asks me for the drivers for V3c... That seems to be the same problem that everyone has been having, so i dont think that vista or wmp11 are the problem here, since i set the compability mode to Win XP service pack 2:browani: . Any help would be appreciated.

I switched from cingular... and let me tell you... Verizon sucks big ba11s! first of all i'm always roaming (which doesnt cost me) but i cant use V cast, since i'm not on their coverage area. then their support line... omg... i spent all day yesterday, after getting transfered 4 times, getting hung up on, and getting transfered to motorola and having to talk to people with weird accents who seemed to know less about phones than my 5 year old brother.:loony:

before i had the v3m, i had an original V3 from cingular. which sucked b/c the speed of the UI was horrible. but other than that, it was awesome. i had Mobile Phone Tools and i would make my own ringtones, background, and even my own slideshows. I would also share stuff with my best friend who has a ROKR E1 using bluetooth. Now verizon killed it. We should all get together and do something about this, its not fair that we're paying money for service that we're not getting. Its time to do something, dont ya'll think?
