    Re: RAZR V3m

Here is also another site that explains how to flash your V3m to the Alltel V3c.

    http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Motorola_V3c_Tutorial:_Flashing_to_Alltel_User_Interface

NOTE: If you do this, you will loose the transFlash and MP3 player capabilties, but you will have FULL functionality of the phone.

I have not tried this because I have 3 - 1gb transFlash cards and I am anxious to put them to use on the phone.

Oh, not to sound too stupid, but how the heck do you get the transFlash out of the V3m? When inserted, it makes a decisive 'clicking' sound, but I see no way of getting it out.

only way out, is with battery out, or you could try "modding" your chip's to have a beveled edge.. but that's up to your discresion.

    Re: RAZR V3m USB inconsistencies

I saw in another forum that the particular USB port matters. This appears to be true because I got my v3m to charge and sync music on the first try with the drivers and intructions from this thread on a tower computer with a USB PCI card but still can't get it to work on my Notebook computer.

Any tips on the Notebook will be appreciated.

Just FYI...I still see some suggestions about buying the cable specfically for the Razr. Note this is a standard mini-USB (like the kind the comes with some digital cameras and such) so you don't need a proprietary cable from Motorola and you do not need the Verizon Music Essentials package unless you need the headset.

Perhaps a simple question, but I can't seem to find a way to adjust the brightness of the internal screen. Am I missing something? I think I've checked every possible menu item as well as the manuals. Iknow that my wifes v325 has an adjustment. Thanks.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Sorry, should have made myself more clear.

I removed the battery cover and battery. But I cannot get a hold of the transFlash chip itself to get it out. I have pretty long finger nails, but all I am doing is scratching the chip all up. I tried some tweezers too, but no go.

I am afraid to 'pry' it out with anything.

    Re: RAZR V3m

There is a little gold looking switch on the right side of the TF card slot that can be slid over to help release the TF. The scan disk card has a little ridge on it to that can help.

    Re: RAZR V3m USB inconsistencies

Some usb ports are low-power and not sufficient to charge the phone. I'm assuming that you've tried all the ports on the laptop and they are the same. perhaps a powered usb hub might do the trick?

On another note, I can't seem to get either p2k commander or mpt to connect to the v3m, they both stall out forever trying to connect to the phone. the log for p2k looks like it's just trying to connect over and over, device does show up as a motorola usb modem in device manager. Any tips appreciated -

the wma audio file transfer via media player is fine. I let it convert mp3's to wma at first but the quality was really poor, I recommend using another audio editor to convert your files to wma before you sync. The difference in quality was huge.

Tried that and part of the little ridge on the transFlash card broke off while trying to get it out. I cannot seem to be able to raise the transFlash card up enough to grab both sides of it at the same time.

    Re: RAZR V3m USB inconsistencies

I had the same problem with my notebook charging my LG7000 UNLESS it was plugged into an AC outlet at the same time. It seems that the batteries by themselves, just could not provide the required power.

    FYI on the cables:
I bought a kit to put a notebook hard drive in so I could have an external backup hard drive for my laptop. The kit came with a mini usb to regular usb cord. When I tried out the MPT program from Motorola, the hard drive kit cable worked just as well as the expensive cable that came with the software.

    Re: RAZR V3m

I should have followed that link, it pretty much answers all my questions. I have a verizon phone so that explains why the mpt stuff doesn't (completely)work for me. I'm going to read it carefully and see if I want to take a shot at hacking my new cellphone, some of the functionality looks much better at first glance. If verizon didn't hack em in the first place it wouldn't be an issue.

What I really want out of my phone is pretty simple:

    1. mp3 player with easy file transfer - it'd be nice if I didn't have to convert to wma, most tunes are mp3 to begin with. it'd be nice not to be tied to using windows media player for that matter.
    2. use any mp3 file as a ringtone, that doesn't appear to be an option currently.
    3. easy transfer of pictures
    4. get the corporate logos off my phone

Is that too much to ask?

    Re: RAZR V3m

I got it out, in three pieces. Broke the darn thing into three pieces when I slid the gold spring over and tried to pull the TF out. I pulled so hard, that I broke my thumbnail, too.

Oh, well. One TF down, two to go. Myabe by the last TF I'll have it figured out.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Do you have the MTPFix from Motorola installed? You need to run that fix after you load the other drivers. Sometimes it takes a bit for it to work. Also it needs to be recognized as Motorola USB Modem first.

    Re: RAZR V3m

I'm new to this thread. The tutorial provided by audio_guru worked great this morning. I was able to perform the sync and loaded about 800MB of songs on the 1GB TransFlash. When I tried to view the music via My Music on the V3M, it locked up and after a while sends me back to the initial screen. Any ideas on why this is doing this?

Can someone please explain to me in "normal" terms how I can go about charging my phone using my laptop? Someone previously answered my question, but I do not understand the terms used at all. Thanks so much!

I finally got it to work! I think it was a problem with my media player. I had it updated and everything but it took a reinstall to get my phone to finally be recognized. So for everyone still having problems, try reinstalling wmp10.

trepidationdreams : are you using a Mac laptop? i've been able to get my cell to charge on diff cables on my laptop, a Del inspiron, plugged into AC & Not AC. it might have to do with your laptop's power settings.. i have mine at the least conservative, so it doesn't try to scrimp on USB stuff. but theres some software windows settings that might help while your AC powered.

Hi, thanks for the response! No, I'm not using a Mac; I'm actually using a Dell Inspiron notebook. I'm just lost as to what cables I'm suppose to use and whatnot in order to charge the phone. Is it a separate cable that I need to buy or what? As you can tell, I'm utterly confused.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Not a special cable, standard 5pin mini usb to regular usb is what it uses. The usb cable I already have for my canon camera is identical, it works fine. There is such a thing as a 4pin mini usb connector so look out for that, make sure you get the right one.

I did buy the music essentials pack for $20, what that got me was the usb cable (nothing special there), headphones and the driver disk (which apparently does not work without mtpfix.exe). I think that was a reasonable price since the headphones are decent, that's essentially what you are paying for. Then again, the driver sucks so they are selling something that is borderline non-functional. Don't install the vcast software unless you are planning on using the $15 a month service (not likely).

I've been messing with this phone since I got it and of course the usb driver dropped out, then I could not get the phone to reinstall properly. I think it finally worked after I ran mtpfix several times in a row out of frustration. The driver they are supplying doesn't really work without that fix, who knows how long before they issue a better driver?:loony:

I don't know, this thing is pretty new, I think verizon needs a lot more time to work out some bugs, it's just not quite ready for primetime. Nevertheless, I'm probably going to stick with this phone and hope I can flash it at some point in the future to get better functionality out of the thing. I really only got it for the mp3 player gimmick, and that works so I'm satisfied there. Feature wise it's a much much better phone than my super simple old nokia, we'll see how the battery and reception fare over time.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Yes with motorola tools. You can buy it from motorola or if you bit torrent you can download it here.

    http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/hashtorrent/3421830.torrent/motorolaphonetoolsv4.0.iso.rar.3421830.TPB.torrent

Regardless where you get the software, once you install it keep updating the software till it recognizes your V3m. Initially it wont recognize it till it has the most recent updates.

    Re: RAZR V3m

well i've been reading through all this and trying different things, but nothing seems to work right for my brandy-new v3m. i just need functionality enough to be able to make ringtones and transfer them to the phone instead of recording things. unfortuantly, MPT doesn't like to see the phone.

but that was earlier in teh week.

now, through all my attempts at getting things to work, i've set myself back to square one, and i can't even get my computer to recognize my phone anymore. the v3c drivers i installed earlier in the week worked fine with it, and my phone would charge via usb cable. but, i'm thinking due to the mtpfix.exe i downloaded, supposed to fix the v3m issue, is what is causing my computer to not like those drivers anymore, and not installing it. no matter what different ways i've tried (drivertool, the v3m drivers posted in here in a way earlier post)... i've made no progress.

so i need a little help with this one.

    Re: RAZR V3m

Ok so after two days of messing with my pc i finally got it to sync to my phone so i can get some music on there. Now on to step 2 of my journey: ringtones and pictures.
I have been wanting to try this bitpim and seem edit business but i was wondering if using this stuff voids my warranty or if it can mess up my phone. Ive read about the TF trick where you can rename the qfc file but i dont have a card yet so i was wondering if any of you out there have figured out other methods on how to transfer ring tones through a cable.
Be back later, its just starting to get dark here so im off to watch some fireworks.

I appreciate the response greatly! I guess I'll just have to go out and get this 5pin cable (I have no idea what that means, but I'm assuming the people there will know). I have a digital camera (a Sony), but I don't think any of the cables that it came with would help to connect the mini USB to the USB on my laptop. Again, thanks a lot! I almost don't even want to bother with the memory card feature on the phone because of all the headaches I'm hearing on the thread!

    To PGA13 and others:

OK... I dowloaded the apps in PGA13's files. I've never seem edited (hacked?) a phone before. What I'm nervous about is messing up my phone. I guess what I'm getting at is this.

    1. Is it worth it to seem edit?
    2. If I mess up the edit, can I "reload" my default "system" (the way it was before I messed it up) and get it back to normal?
    3. I basically would like to do the following - Upload/Download ringtones, pictures and videos. Can seem editing make that possible.
    4. Is there a tutorial for getting thigs set up with p2kcommander and PST?
    5. What is PST? How does it work with p2kcommander?
    6. What is the "P2KSeem4V710" seem edit?

Sorry for all the questions, but hey, it's my only phone and I really like it and I don't want to mess it up.

    Thanks,

    Mark
