    Greetings All!

I have the ability to get a new phone coming up at the end of the month. I have been wanting to get a MotoQ, but I am just concerned that it's already an old phone and not sure if there will be a successor coming out soon.

I just don't want to be stuck with old stuff in two years... Any thoughts?

Either way, it'll be "old stuff" in two years.
Do you want a Data plan on top of the Voice plan?
If so, there are other QWERTY type phones.
The RIM BBs and the Treo line.

If no Data plan is needed, look into the enV

rumor was that Motorola was going to buy Palm, and take over the treo line, but that was just a rumor. I thought the black version of the Q on verizon is an upgraded version, but it is identical. Verizon rep had one and can't stand it.
For what its worth I have a Treo 650 without data and love it.
Wife has the v, and mother just got the enV which is a sweet phone. Only downside is calendar is limited to number of entries and info entered.

I have the Q right now and I really like it. I know a lot of people complain about it but for my money it's one of the best phones I've ever had. So if you're looking for a good PDA right now then I'll give my recommendation to the Q. If you wanna wait for something new then the 6800 should be out in a few months and it looks pretty cool, but that's still a few months away.

The 6800 will IMHO be around 3-400 $ with a 2 yr contract. The negative on the Q I have heard is the battery life, as well as having to close programs as you exit them. Maybe if they offered a Q with palm/linux os then I could see myself with one.

See I have an E815 now, and I have a Dell Axim x30 with the Wi-Fi. My Dell's battery doesn't hold a charge so I barely use it now. The E815 I like, but I have been doing a lot more texting and email, which sucks without a keyboard.

The Q is a chap compromise between the two. From what I read, the software on the original Q sucked and caused problems, but there was an update, which I assume is already on the new black Q, that fixed the problems.

The Treo's are nice, but they don't do Wi-Fi either and are significantly more expensive. And yes I will add a data plan to the voice plan, as it'll be on a family share plan.

I just cannot seem to figure out the $100 price difference between a Treo and the Q. As far as features go, they seem the same, but I can get a Q for $99 with my new contract, and the Treo is still $200 or so. (Granted these prices are after my $100 upgrade bonus)

This is why I have been leaning towards the Q. Now someone mentioned the 6800 and if that is either an LG or a Nokia, I have never been overly impressed with either of those two brands over the years. I have had Motorola's for a few years now, and have always been able to depend on them. But I'm not opposed to solid opinions to sway me off the Q. :) I just have always been happy with Moto stuff and the reviews of the Q, and the research I have done make it sound like a solid and good choice.

First of all, there will not be a Q successor for Verizon (or any CDMA carrier) for a while. The recently announced Q q9h is a GSM variant. No CDMA version was mentioned to be coming out any time soon. So if you did get the black Q, it would not be obsolete as you were concerned about. Cell phones are basically obsolete the moment they come out anyway because something new is always on the horizon.

Unless you are willing to switch to the GSM side, then you could get the Q q9h, but is that something you want to do?

As far as the XV6800, it will be (most likely) branded as "Verizon Wireless" (with other CDMA carriers, it can be branded as a "UTStarcom" PDA phone), but it is made by HTC. If you've seen the Cingular 8125 or 8525, and the T-Mobile MDA, they are made by HTC as well, but they go by the carrier's name instead of their own. LG and Nokia have nothing to do with these phones.

I have the Q and like it. I wish it had a touchscreen, but that's just my personal preference. Other than that, it's quite a good PDA phone.

I'm waiting for a BB Pearl or any BB that has a camera. Having 2 kids in college in different parts of the country pics are always a nice addition. Especially my son whose major is avaition/finace and the cool pixs I get of him flying make my day.....
