I live in American Samoa and have received a "Q" from the states. It is for Verizon, which does not exist here. The CDMA provider here told me the phone will work with their network, they sold lots of Verizon phones, however there is no way for them to put in the NAM. They told me to have the phone unlocked and bring it back. After checking around, it seems there is nothing I can do. This thing cost about $500 and although there is no data service here to use all of the functions, I'd still like to be able to use the phone function. Is there any hope for me, or am I out of luck? (The provider here told me it would work before I ordered it, but this has not turned out to be the case.) Any help, pointers, or ideas that aren't leading to my being further "ripped off" would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave
To edit the nam on the Moto Q you have to do this.... ##073887* send That will get you into the menu. If it asks for a code then put in 000000.... Hope it helps....
Well I thried that the best I could. Nothing seemed to work. Starting from the main menu the numbers entered just dial out. From the settings menu I get as far as an "about" screen, then nothing. Entering anything else at this point just goes into the dialer.... Maybe they did something at the phone company because they said it would not take the security code when it asked for it. They were able to get it to ask for the code somehow. This thing is just not working out and is frustrating... Dave
Was it new in box or used? It shouldn't have anything other then the default security code. Might be worth calling them and seeing what they can do for you. Because without that code someone in the states couldn't even get it to work with Verizon. There may be a master reset you could try in the manual that would put it back to 000000.......
Hi, It was new in the box. It wasn't taken out until it got here and I took it to the phone company. They connected it to a computer, but could not make their software communicate with it. Then they said something about the security menu on the phone, punched in some numbers, and said the code wasn't being accepted. Then they said it was locked and that I would have to find a way to unlock it and bring it back. I tried the ## sequence, but it never gets to the screen asking for the security code. Question: What menu do I need to be in to enter the ## sequence? Is it the settings menu or what. Most of the time it just tries to dial the numbers! Dave
I believe the menu sequence for the Q is ##* not ##073887* that should get you into the service menu. Please report back if I was incorrect.
If the Q you have is from Verizon, then it is unlocked. Of course it will work on their network. I have used my Q in China (Unicom), S. Korea (SK Telecom) and Taiwan (APBW) in the past month. In each case it automatically connected to the network. Check the software version in your Q: Start > Settings > Phone Settings > Phone Information The new software version is: Q2-BP_C_06.07.03P There are lines below the software version. What is the PRL? What is the ERI Version? What is the Network Selection? What is the Registered SysID/NetID? Qlick "Done" and then My Telephone Number. Is there a number here (other than 0000000000)? Your answers will tell if the software is updated and if the phone was correctly activated after the update. The programming access code (##073887*) may need to be re-entered several times. It will work. ##* is the service mode access code, not the programming menu access code.
I think part of the problem is that the sequence of buttons has to be pressed fairly quickly. Do not pause after pressing the menu button, immediately press the others. I am not familiar with the "Q", but older motorolas use "menu button", then just 073887* pressed quickly, without any # symbols. Also, if you do get to the security code, it should be just 6 zeros.
Thanks, keying in the sequence fast may have done the trick, however the phone company here finally figured out what to do with it. I just needed to be dealing with the correct person! That seems to solve lots of different problems! Cheers
